Another one. Kessen.

I remember renting it from the video store and never returning it. Watching YouTube videos now though, I don't know what was so good about the game. :/
Yes!!

I remember going into this local game store around march/april 2000 and they had a japanese PS2 hooked up to a TV with this on it and i stood there for about 3 hours playing it until i turned around and pre-ordered a PS2 and Kessen. One of my favorite series on the PS2 i wish they would bring it back

Also, Rise to Honor
It did Sleeping dogs combat/environmental stuff before sleeping dogs the combat was great and pretty innovative for it's time.

As for OP, i don't think spider-man 2 quite counts as a game that anyone forgot it's still highly regarded as the best spider-man game ever made by almost everyone and is always brought up by multiple people in any spider-man conversation.

EverQuest games consumed so many hours of my life. Especially the PS2 ones. I wish the servers never went down. It seemed like after the release of Final Fantasy XI, SOE just stopped adding content. Didn't bother to port it to other systems or anything to keep it alive. Not at all surprising when they became Daybreak Games and even cancelled EQNext. They've been taking steps in the wrong direction for so long now... :\

Dude! I've been interested in this forever. Heard it had some tower defense elements. Is it good/fun? It is hard to judge from gameplay videos. I've almost bought it on the PS3 store so many times.

It is super fun, although quite easy. You can usually get away with the tried and true RTS tactic of just building units until you hit your maximum, then just send a blob of (beautifully animated) death against your opponents base. It plays like a simplified old-school PC RTS from a side perspective.

not as much forgot as nobody played those, a pity really because Mana Khemia is GOAT and funniest game too while MKh2 is as good.

Hell yeah. Loved Mana Khemia. Still get the school background music stuck in my head sometimes.

Also, its definitely got a cult following following now, but I feel like I need to mention Godhand anyway. Because is there a bad time to mention Godhand? I don't think so.

Sky Odyssey snip

Sky Odyssey the GOAT!! Was the first PS2 game we got when my family got our system Christmas 2000. My dad used to play it a lot but could never get past the first level. Still had a lot of laughs watching him play.

My pick would have to be the game that got me into rhythm games and ruined my life forever:

The Getaway

Loved these two games to bits, especially The Getaway. Quite annoyed there was never a sequel for the PS3.

My most hated game on PS2. Some of the worst 3D controls I've ever experienced. People think the GTA games control poorly, The Getaway made GTA3 feel perfect.

I wanted to like it, because I love GTA and I loved Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels at the time, too. I forced myself to play it until I despised it.

Monster Rancher 3 and to an extent 4.

GOD I was obsessed with those games. You could put in CDs/DVDs to generate random monsters and I'd use every single CD in the house to see what I'd get. When that wasn't enough I'd go to a family members house with my PS2 and use all their CDS to see what I'd get. Still remember when I finally got the Sand Dragon, best day of my teenage life.

The original Monster Hunter.

latest

I would play that game until about 4 or 5 in the morning, sleep for a few hours, and then jump back online to start all over again. Unfortunately, I no longer have that amount of free time and haven't kept up with the series as a result. None of my friends who play the newer games have played the original.

Much of my PS2 collection is obscure favorites, many of them posted here already. Crimson Tears was a fun dungeon crawler/brawler that didn't survive the culling when I decided to downsize the collection, but I still remember enjoying it.

Not totally forgotten, but it's not very memorable due to how average/bad it is. It had a unique/interesting style though and I have a kind of fondness for it due to how excited I was for it when it first came out.

One of mine that still gets occasional mentions is Radiata Stories. Fun RPG, a quite varied cast of recruitable characters, and it's one of very few long RPGs I've completed multiple times.

Came to post this. Still my favorite game of all time. I break it out and play it every now and again. It's just so silly, but ridiculously fun.

I was going to post the Shinobi games, but it seems someone beat me to it. Those were amazing games.

But, back on topic, Heres God of War before there was God of War.

A ancient greekish warrior with a weapon on a chain he throws about fights monsters from greek myths, including huge, epic boss fights.

Admittedly, it wasn't nearly as good as GOW though. Truly awful dialogue.

Great game, that has some deceptively deep mechanics. But I preferred the the sequel Nightshade.

Hibana (and all things Shinobi) remain forgotten and ignored by Sega.

Mostly, but not entirely. They did both recently show up in Project X zone 2, Hotsuma teamed up with Strider Hiryu, and Hibana independent. So someone still remembers them.

The Battle of Yu Yu Hakusho: Shitou! Ankoku Bujutsukai! 120%

Fun Dimps fighting game based on the Yu Yu Hakusho franchise. It's unrelated to the Atari one.

I don't think Spider-Man 2 has been forgotten by at least people here on GAF. That was a fantastic game, and like you OP, I didn't even finish it, but managed to rack up a ton of time on it.

Agreed. The Getaway was annoying as hell to play. I couldn't play it past an hour or so.

That being said, I really wouldn't mind seeing a spiritual successor or very loose sequel on the PS4 done properly.

Robotech: Battlecry is a game that I have very fond memories of. I grew up watching Robotech on TV and always wanted a great game that felt like that.
There are a bunch of Macross games in Japan that never made their way to the US, so this was the first one to fulfill my craving. I remember loving the crap out of it, but am scared to replay it since I don't imagine it holds up well.

To add to the topic:

Bujingai_cover.jpg

Bujingai: Swordmaster
Not the best action game ever, but I still enjoyed it a lot. It had some sort of clashing mechanic where colors would fly off the screen as you and your enemy went mental on eachother with your swords. I'd give it a 75/100, but the nice kind of 75/100.

I love the hell out of Bujingai. Like you said, it's not the best action game ever, but it's got style, great music (Zuntata) and GACKT. Also it was a pretty neat to have a game with a wuxia flair. A sequel was supposedly in the works but never materialized, I wish Platinum would pick this up and work their magic.

Drakan_-_The_Ancients'_Gates_Coverart.png

Drakan: The Ancients' Gates

This is one of my favourite swords and sorcery games ever. It had an amazing soundtrack, really good graphics (with an excellent draw distance in particular), very decent voice acting and excellent albeit fairly simple combat which played to the limitations of a control pad pretty well. It's also probably the only game I've played where on-foot and dragon-based combat is equally fun, and it's full of really fun and sometimes epic boss fights. A great adventure and I'd love it to get a re-release via PS2onPS4.

I absolutely love this game. It's one of my all time favourites. I still have my original copy, but no PS2 to play it on... such a memorable game.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Yeah, Days of the Blade sucked, but the PS2 game was alright.

The PS2 game was legit. Felt just like Onimusha, and that was totally fine with me.

I might be mistaken, but wasn't Game Republic actually formed by staff that previously worked on Onimusha?

This game was so good. I got it in an easter basket from my parents when I was like 9 or 10 years old. Ive never heard much about it, so idk, it might have been super popular. It got greatest hits so it must've done well.
