System Shock Remastered Kickstarter Launched (PC/XB1) | 900K Goal - Demo Available

What's your CPU? I'm getting between 70fps to 90fps on the same GPU with a i7 3770/16GB RAM. Still quite big drops, but it's not gone near 50 for me.

Xeon x5650 around 3.5Ghz and 18GB RAM. (Previously an i7-920 around 3.6, system performance was about the same.)

Bro. It's a kickstarted that launched today for a game that wont launch for at least one and a half years.

Better panic.

I know, bro. Read the last sentence of my post. Not panicking at all, just reporting the poor performance to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

The last sentence when you start praying to God it performs better but then say you don't think it will because its on Unity?

At any rate, this is more of a proof of concept than anything. It was made by 4 people. The bulk of the work on this game has yet to begin.

Optimization will happen. Hell, by the time this game releases, many of us will have upgraded or all together new PC's AND Consoles.

we better get to the bottom of these performance issues before the kickstarter ends OR I AM OUT

Huh? That isn't very logical, I hope this is a sarcastic post. This is a PRE-ALPHA of a game that isn't due out for at least 1.5 years and was worked on by a team of 4.... Most games aren't optimized until the final ~2 months of game development.

I guess I'm lucky because I had no performance issues at all. other than the lack of music and possible orchestra sountrack in the final game I'm really impressed.

No, the part where I said I hope the full game performs better. I realize this is a pre-alpha, but I've also played enough Unity-engine games that run like complete and utter shit even on powerful hardware to warrant being concerned.

What's your GPU? I'm assuming GTX 980 or above?

I'm pretty sure that's the joke

Demo ran perfect for me, and they sure as hell nailed the feel of the game. Needs the same ol' ambient music though.

After playing the demo i had to back it, they did a great job and it's an ALPHA :D

If i have to nit pick, the only bad thing would be the hitbox, doesnt need to be drastically increased but just abit more. Same with enemys too, needs to be increased slightly but not as much as the players

Was glitched? I got into some sort of mode and was able to drop endless crumpled paper or something lol.

Beside that and a crash, the game been running smoothly with my GTX 950 on the default settings.

Just to be clear, when you say you had "no performance issues" are you talking a smooth, constant 60 FPS? Because not everyone has the same performance standards. For me, there are very noticeable FPS drops even when Steam's FPS overlay reports otherwise. At the very beginning for example, without even walking around, it definitely feels 30-ish.

They're looking for about 15-20k backers. 300 early birds is around 1-2% of what they expect in total. It makes sense to me that the discount would go to the most dedicated 1-2%. I guess it wouldn't hurt if it was 5% or 10% or whatever, but I also don't feel like it makes sense to kick up a stink over $5 unless your argument is that all KS backers should get a discount. It's not like 5% or 10% wouldn't still be leaving out people backing on the first day.

never left the stone age
Demo ran in the 45-60 FPS range for me on my 280X so I'd chalk up the performance to it being a super early test demo. It's pretty much just a vertical slice.

That said, it was incredibly atmospheric and it actually felt scary, so they've done a fantastic job in my eyes.

Yeaah if they are skipping the PS4 I'll be skipping the kickstarter.

Why haven't they contacted Sony about this?

Really liking the pixelated textures of the game, hope they don't get too cocky with the 'graphical fidelity' and keep this specific art style - goes great with the cyberpunk theme. Demo ran a bit wonky but that's to be expected. I've never played the original System Shock, only the second which was one of the most atmospheric games I've ever experienced(followed by Thief), but what I've seen in the demo has me hooked for more. I've always been wary of these kickstarter/community funded projects and never backed anything, I'll make an exception for this one though because 30$ doesn't seem like that much of a risk. Fingers crossed and I hope Nightdive will deliver.

I just talked to someone who has been on their mailing list since forever, he got the mail, went to KS a few seconds later and the Early Bird tier was already gone. Since I went there as soon as I read about it on GAF and still saw some available I assume someone f'd up notifying the most dedicated in a timely manner.

Yeah that's what I mean. 60 / 65 fps and it felt like it.

I was very excited about this remake. I hate with all my soul the Unity Engine, but this time it could convince me because there is a demo. Great, that's because they are proud enough of the result, right?

Oh my godness. It's fucking terrible. Frametimes totally broken, unstable framerate. Unplayable for me. Sorry guys, you can't count on me.

Fuck this shitty engine. Fuck off.

Wow, that is bizarre. I'm not sure if it's related to something other than my GPU or what, but I haven't had performance problems with any other recent games. Doom ran at 80-100+ FPS, for example. I did, however, have similar issues ~6 months ago with Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, which coincidentally also ran on the shitty Unity engine. I'm convinced it's something specific to that engine.

Seems an odd stance for someone that is a supporter to not back them for the sake of $5?

Do they have any early bird options for higher tiers?

I wonder if a system shock 2 like interface will also be in as well

I got 90ish reported FPS in the opening area on an overclocked 970 (1600x900), I think something else might be creating the appearance of slow FPS although I could be equally talking out of my ass

One would hope "the most dedicated" would be willing to pay 5$ more. Early Bird isn't for "the most dedicated" but for people who are not 100% certain they want to back it.

Is in fact the worse engine of all times. Players tend to forgive its problems because is the main tool in Indie Devs hands, Indie devs that are responsible for a handful of games with great ideas that can deviate from the typical AAA pattern. But really, in the tech side, Unity deserves no forgiveness. It deserves to disappear.

I'm pretty sure this is similar to Underworld: Ascendant where your position in the game world is tied to the physics engine which runs at 60hz. So even if you're getting over 60 FPS on high end monitors, moving around will feel more stuttery than it should.

Standing still and moving the camera around will feel fine, you'll only notice the issue when moving your character.

edit: I made a thread about it on the Underworld forum a few months ago: https://www.othersideentertainment.com/forum/index.php?topic=1017

I was stacking body parts, not paper wads hah. I couldn't figure out what to do when I got to the red/orange room with boxes in it though. Seemed neat.

That's quite the hyperbole.

Hope to fuck that gets fixed. I believe Subnautica has the same issue.

While I agree Unity 4 was incredibly horrible horrible tech for 3d graphics, Unity 5.4 is semi-decent. However, SLI support needs to be baked into the engine by default instead of having to manually force/create your own profile.

Nightdive might want to clarify this.

The sidebar says that a steelcase is granted at $75, but the graphic of the $75 tier at the bottom of the page does not list the steelcase (not until the $150 tier).

yea, i noticed this too but i'll go by the text. if they screw that up, there will be hell to pay. might upgrade anyway.

Scope:
900k remaster.
1.7 million add shit to ruin the game and probably never finish it.

I'm going to hold off and see how it all goes.
