Since others gave guessed F2P, I'll guess that they're moving to a "Season"-based DLC model. New maps, skins, modes, characters and monsters every few months for a year.

Amazing that they are still supporting this game. How many active players can it even have at this point? Seems like they should move on and quit beating a dead horse.

what use is free to play if even the people who paid for it refuse to play it

Well if you assume that the ratio of people who buy things in F2P games extrapolates out to represent the people who've already purchased it, you're looking at active playerbase going from (as someone said above) 100 people to something like 3000, assuming a 3% conversion rate

New news is great news, whatever it is. I still love hopping into a game here and there. Ps4, and I usually have no troubles finding a match in no time. Great game.

My friends and I stopped playing it because it would take forever to find people to play with, if at all, because we didn't have enough for a full team.

I kinda thought the same, but didn't Evolve only launch, what, about 16 months ago? Seems a bit soon to be expecting a sequel.

Well if they are making a sequel of a MP game it's entirely possible they can release another one 24 months after the first one, so it makes sense to announce it 8 months before launch for example. However mid July isn't exactly a good time to announce new games especially when E3 was a month ago.

I doubt it's F2P because the game was on sale in the last couple of weeks. That would be terrible, because they could only solve the problems with population if they make everything entirely free, if they put DLC under a pay gate, it will still be terrible. Maybe some free trial for 5 hours like UFC2.

The game is on sale right now for Xbox One. Why would they put it on sale right before a F2P announcement? That would be a dick move.

Its harder to make a F2P game viable on consoles, for a variety of reasons.

Actually, have any games that went retail -> f2p in the PC space done the same in the console space? There might be platform owners guidelines specifically prohibiting it.

F2P but you only get the first 4 hunters and you can't upgrade them unless you buy it?

I have been meaning to pull this game out. The last partch (when the last characters came out) felt like it broke the game to me. But I bought it cheap so I should boot it up again soon.

Maybe a countdown to finally fixing all the fucking glitches and bugs that have been in the game since the alpha?

lol, na, it will be something to squeeze as much money as possible from whatever fanbase is left. I have hundreds of hours in the game, but I gave up on the idea of TRS redeeming this game long ago.

I was going to wait until there were less than 24 hours left and say that the countdown probably showed the number of players the game had.

But let's get that out of the way.

I bought TF2 on a sale right before it went F2P. Maybe the people who owned the game before F2P gets to have more access to the game. Maybe F2P players can only pick one monster and a rotation of maps or something.

Not sure free to play would help if no one is playing right now. Even f2p games are dead sometimes. Hopefully its a revamp that makes it more compelling.

Are they adding fun gameplay and worthwhile modes aside from hunt? Cause if not then im not sure what being F2P would accomplish.

On one hand this would make sense to overlap it with the sale. Gets people tempted into dropping money on the game in anticipation for F2P rewards - as I doubt it'll just drop tomorrow as F2P but more a date & details if it is F2P. They'll want to market and promote it up to that date.

I can't help but assume free to play considering I frequently forget this game exists. Are people even playing it still?

Not sure if this mentioned already, but Evolve purchase disabled on Steam - https://steamdb.info/app/273350/

Also all DLC have been removed.

I mean I didn't hate what I played of it before, just couldn't justify the price.

I wonder what they'll be giving current owners and if a cheap retail copy would be worth picking up. I'm sure there's no shortage...
