Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

So I went out for the 3rd time today. This time from about 9:15, and got home at 12:00AM on the dot.

The scavenger hunt aspect of it is so fun. Trying to figure out where exactly a pokemon will be and all. I caught quite a few of things, but I found a Jigglypuff which was new.

I also gave in on my hesitance to use my powering up stuff after catching a decently strong (212) Eevee. Buffed that up a bit. Then powered up a Growlithe to about 318 or so, and me and my friend double teamed this Gym we've been keeping an eye on much of the day. So finally, I have a spot at a gym again. Collected that due loot. Feels good.

My next goal is to find a bunch of Growlithes and Eevees so I can work my way towards their evolutions.

Why can't they put a mainline free to play on both mobile and their handheld? They did that with that Pokemon match three game.
lol because Nintendo wouldn't allow it because they actually want people to buy their handhelds. What would be the point in buying a 3DS if you could just play ORAS on your smartphone?

To get the gym daily bonus, do I have to go back to the gym to claim it?

Go to shop, click the shield icon on top right corner, that's your daily reward from claiming/defending gyms. The cooldown is 20 hours if I remember right

edit: welp, CEJames beat me to it

Has anyone gotten anywhere on confirming whether location type matters? I went down to the Ohio River and hung out for a while after work and didn't see any change in Pokemon typing.

Opposingly, if I go to my apartments' pool, I find Horsea and Poliwag like crazy.

Was happy to run into this bad boy on the road home today!

Thanks for all the gym tips guys!

Also..

Following my friend around the neighborhood in our cars as he yelled out "gota go back there is a vulpix back that way" while running into other strangers playing Pokemon might be my favorite gaming moment ever.

I prob ran into 15 other people today and talked to a bunch of them. Like WTF.

lol this happened to me at work. People from all walks of life / ages. And its funny that you can tell when someone in public is playing. Looking at their phone, then abruptly turning around.

Bro, Bro, Bro!

*Fist Bump*

I like going against the grain also. That and growing up two gangs in my area wore Red or Blue depending on the gang. So I'm going yella reguardless of what people around me are doing.

I'm worried that there is a benefit playing this threw Trainer Club vs Google. I originally signed up threw trainer club yesterday but couldn't get in today at all so I signed up threw Google with the same nickname I signed up with PTC. We'll see I guess.
Trainer names are unique and not repeatable. How did you manage to get the same name with both accounts?

Anyone encounter any yellow gyms, I was thinking of choosing team spark but it might be more difficult to get the daily bonus right.

Walking with my friends through my neighborhood playing this and three separate cars came up and asked if we were playing it. Kind of cool.

How I see things:
Pokemon Go refreshes the audience with Gen 1 Pokemon and introduces the new generation to them
Nintendo releases a from the ground up remake for mobile of the Gen1 games with microttansations.

This way they can also push these users to the new games that are much more expansive in roster and in gameplay over Gen1 games on mobile. They will promote each other instead of cannibalize themselves.

Maaaaan that 1hp bug. Hit up like 3 gyms tonight and encountered it on every one. Also how does taking over a gym work? I defeated the top Pokemon in one gym and got nothing for it? is it because I'm already a gym leader?

Not that surprised. It's been blowin UP with multiple submissions per minute it seems like for like the past 2 days.

That's for sure. It's back to public now though.

Quick question by the way: for those of you that were in alpha/beta tests, do your accounts say that you have been members since whenever that date you first signed up was?

Nothing but Zubats near my house at night.

Do Pokestops actually give you Incense/Lures? Or do you actually have to buy them with coins?

Not gonna lie, they may have ruined the mainline series for me with this title. After playing this for the last couple days the regular series just feels so dang uninspired. It's an amazing battle system held up by a skeleton of nonsense.

Give me a main line pokemon game set up like this and I'd pay a damned subscription.

Because they need reasons to lure people to their dedicated devices. It's the same reason why Nintendo's mobile games won't be mainline instalments of the titles.

Mobile titles for mobile devices.
Dedicated titles for dedicated devices.

All the abilities are in place though right? Why couldn't they have made the combat the traditional combat? Can't be that hard.

No they aren't

They have different combat because this is a spin-off game. Battles in main games can go on for up to an hour. This is a mobile title so needs to be streamlined

Eh, I still want my story and dungeons, but this is a nice aside.

The game wouldn't be very fun with traditional combat. The main draw is that it's a real-world, exploration game. Finding new things and moving on, while allowing other players to find the same things and have just as much fun with them is important. Putting in the actual battle system would bog down each encounter and put more emphasis on skill than the social aspect.

Are you kidding me? The battle system is terrible and simple

I'm glad you feel that way. I agree with you. ;P

The main games are vastly superior. This just has the bonus of being "new". Give it a week and come back to me.

Heh yeah, the mainline battle system is still way better.

The Pokéball throwing mechanic could be fun in a mainline game, though, probably not for the bulk of the game but maybe in a Safari Zone.

In all fairness, the main series did a pretty good job of convincing me that I didn't need any more of what it was providing. I was already pretty dang sick of it in all fairness, this game just showed how much more the series could expand.

I was talking about the battle system of the main games, for reference. I do hope you're not calling it terrible and simple. I would thoroughly disagree if so, I feel it is big redeeming factor to the series.

You claim that you can have conversations with real people in the main line series I do not give two shits about your opinion on these games.

No, the GO battle system is simple and terrible. It's classic smartphone gaming affair of just repeatedly tapping and sometimes dodging. There's no skill involved.

When the apk leaked, I had to get close to someone's lawn to catch something and when the guy who lived there came out, I was ready to be in full-on apology mode but then he said "are you playing Pokémon? Man, I've been waiting since by Facebook feed is exploding."

I felt bad since he was on iOS but he should be fully engrossed by now.

Despite the fact that yesterday was 90 degrees and humid as heck, I walked 4 miles in a long-sleeve shirt and jeans.

Yay what to take my post out of context lol! I was saying you can meet people in real life by playing the main games as well.

Is there some trick to getting passed the loading screen after putting in my login information? I was able to play a quick bit yesterday when I first started, but haven't been able to login since.
