KINGSGLAIVE: Final Fantasy XV Thread: Everything for the future king

In light of Delaney's accurate description of Luna, I'd like to point out this gem:

Luna "trophy wife" Fleuret.
Glad to see you're so bitter you saved it all this time, I didn't expect to see it here since I had long forgotten about that. But I still expect Luna will not be any better than described by Delaney, so you can post all you want, and go into the movie and game with your particular bias that Luna is already a strong female character, but I don't share your optimism. After all, female characters almost always get the short end of the stick in video games, particularly in Japanese ones. I doubt Luna will be an exception.

Have a question, is this movie targeted to make money? Or is just promotional material for the game.
I don´t know much about these kinds of releases, but limited theaters don´t sound to me like Square wants to profit from this film. Even though it looks awesome :/

I'm really quite interested this after all the positive impressions.

Me too...There haven't been many good insane fantasy sci fi movies since...well, there aren't many at all. They have always had the visual side of things down, they just really need to bring decent writing and narrative.

Not bitter, just found it hilarious. You overcompensated to the point where the post itself was comical.

Criticisms are fine, FFXV's certainly deserves a lot of it, but "trophy wife" is just something else entirely.

Minor spoilers on my impressions about Luna from what I saw:
The first minutes of the film should end the "she needs to be protected"/"weak female character without iniciative" debate once and for all.

French but no German dub? That surprises me since the game itself also has German dub and we literally dub every film Germany.

Please, no negativity on this OT thank you. If you don't like Final Fantasy XV, you don't consider Kingsglaive a worthy piece of media or you would have rather played Final Fantasy Versus XIII, that's fine, but please, do not derail the thread. If after watching the movie you still have thoughs on how Kingsglaive and FFXV relates to Versus XIII, you can discuss it with us, but we will try to avoid drive-by posting in this thread. This is not meant to censor any kind of comment, be it positive or negative about this game and movie, but posts like "I still don't get why we have to play as a boy-band in the game", "Tabata ruined this project and killed my family", "power rangers" and similar do not add anything more to the discussion.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

on topic: the film isn't doing much for me visually (animations are great, though) but i'm hopeful the story and acting here will eclipse what we've seen from the game so far... so hypedish

As I said earlier in the thread, I'm pretty sure there will be a german dub as well. They just haven't talked about it yet. Even the game is being dubbed this time as you said.

It might be dubbed in German, but it hasn't been confirmed yet. S-E didn't know what to answer yesterday at the Japan Expo about the french dub and minutes after, Sony Pictures tweeted that the film would indeed be dubbed in french, so maybe we have news on the german dub soon.

If one of the 4chan leakers (guy who mentioned Gladio had a sister) gets vindicated with the release of the game and and film depictions, then Tabata was definitely not lying when he said this.

Tabata said:
Within the overall theme of the journey, the team reasoned on what position a heroine should take, and thought that rather than having a more passive and weak heroine that needs to be saved, it would be much better to have a stronger and more determined female character, who actively engages with the events in the story, and to play that role they thought they needed a different character than Stella.

That scene of Stella vs. Noctis in your Luna description was supposedly already removed in Versus 2011 too.

I think it's more of a branding exercise than a straight forward profit venture. I'm sure they'll be seeking to break-even on it tho.

Nice OT but the Luna bit I find annoying.. all we ever saw of Stella was the scene with her and noctis talking, and some bit with her apparently perhaps reluctantly squaring off with noctis.. I dont see why everyone thinks she came across as a much stronger female character than Luna. Maybe its the design? I dont know.

You moved to derail your own thread with that OP. Thanks for fixing it.

I'm sure they intend to make a profit, although I don't think it's very likely that they will. A shit ton of studios were involved in this film, the rendering is photorealistic to the point where untrained eyes can confuse some shots with live action. They had big name actors involved. But it's only getting a limited theater release for a game that was announced ten years ago. I would be legitimately surprised if they made a profit all things considered.

Please do not post rumors from the game and speculation based on supposed leaked stuff. Let's keep it really spoiler free, everyone.

This was just regarding the Versus and XV changes of the heroine, I won't be posting any other leaks/rumors.

They officially announced the Kingsglaive + Brotherhood steelbox yesterday at the Japan Expo and it seemingly was a France exclusive. Glad to see it's popping up in more countries.

I think they were just announcing a French version. I preordered it from Amazon USA 5 days ago.

Really don't like Iedolas demeanour in this movie. Clarus was a mistake, too.

The problem to me is the Iedolas acts like a different character from the stuff we've seen so far from Kingsglaive. There's no evil grin or any confidence that his character has in FFXV, and he just looks like someone who's been sad his entire life.

I can let go characters looking slightly different (Clarus looks completely different which I won't defend), and Iedolas looks similar in the game and movie, but his personality appears to be different which sucks.

It's being distributed by Stage 6 Sony in the US which was created to distribute low budget films. I'm guessing KG's budget should be around 10-20 mil going by other films this company released.

What did Idelolas and Clarus originally look as...? Please don't say what I think you're gonna say...

This movie looks just as good as Zootopia visually, it's certainly not low budget. The low marketing budget may have saved on costs but it definitely cost a pretty penny to produce a film that looks like this. Looking at their history this is probably the most expensive film they've been involved with. Just compare it with Appleseed Alpha.

Sad that this isn't a simultaneous theatre / digital release, can't enjoy the release with other people who have access to Japanese movie theatres :(

If I was rich I'd fly there for this weekend, lol.

You and me both, lol.

During the Uncovered event, I was under the impression we'd get a simultaneous digital release. It's ashame that's not the case.

I was just wondering if she was using her regilar british voice or attempted a bad american accent or you're used to her british accent so hearing her voice with an american accent sounded funny.

She sounds like her normal voice to me from what I've heard of the English. It's going to be weird for that voice to be coming out of Luna though I am going to be thinking about Cersi the whole time.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is true. Didn't Nomura say that when Versus XIII was originally unveiled, he basically had zero idea of how the actual story was going to turn out and just had a vague thought of what he wanted? I kinda think Square's higher ups came to him asking to be a part of the FNC thing and Nomura was ecstatic, but the Square execs told him to whip up a quick visual treatment to be included with the FNC unveiling(Nomura and others at Square lament that Versus was revealed TOOOOOO early). When Nomura told them he hadn't even really thought up anything, story-wise, the execs probably told him to just think up a cool scene or two and make them into CG movies. "Don't think too hard, Tets-baby! You're a very VISUAL guy. Do something Advent Children-ish with crazy fights. After this presentation, we'll have all the time in the world to worry about a story and how these scenes fit into it".

When you start to write a story, you might have a vague idea of what you want to tackle, or you might have a key scene or event that aim to build the story around. But, rarely does the writing process allow concepts to go unchanged. You might think, "Yeah, that's a cool idea", but when you start writing and the story evolves, you might get to the point where the idea just doesn't fit in anymore. That happens with just about EVER story written, and I'm sure to hell positive it happened with every FF story. Look at how much FFVII's story has changed from it's start to final version. I mean, Aerith WAS originally to be Cloud's childhood friend(pre-Tifa), and she was also Sephiroth's sister. Sephiroth was also a true Cetra in one point of the story. These ideas and drafts didn't make it into the final version because the story evolved(for the best).

One of the problems I have with people being mad at FF15 and its treatment of women is that FF has always treated women very well. There is a good example of a strong female in just about every single game (sometimes multiple women), and I wouldn't expect this to be different.

So sure, females in Japanese games "get the short end of the stick" very often, but I find it unfair to levy a general criticism with the industry against one of the only companies where this is absolutely not true.

I'm sure this has already been answered elsewhere, but is there a reason for the dramatic difference in appearance between game Luna and movie Luna while Regis looks about the same?

Is it just different studios having different ideas of how she should look?
