The Kalos League has finally begun

Episode 33 has aired. The league has moved so fast that we literally only see snippets of battles for the most part, with the emphasis being on Tierno vs Shouta. It was actually a great match, both trainers showed tenacity. Mega Sceptile is a bit much for Tierno's team to handle though. Astrid's mega Absol gets barely any screentime, RIP.

I don't like the pacing of this league arc much. We get 2 filler episodes before the league and now that we're into it they're blowing past all of the matches. Perhaps it's something to do with the animation budgeting, studio holiday or whatnot, but the pacing is really off to have two slow episodes where nothing happens and then zoom through the plot relevent eps, the ones everyone has been waiting to see, at breakneck speed. Here's hoping Ash vs Shouta isn't rushed in any way.

One thing that's always been consistent about Ash's character is that he is great at overcoming type disadvantages. Kid likes playing with his back against the wall.

That's actually a pretty good team!

Cant wait to see how powerful the sixth has become.

He's not going to win the league. At best he'll get top 2, but who knows with him regressing back to top 8 in Unova.

Scored 3/100 on an Exam
I timed it, the fight lasted 22 seconds (and that's being generous and including the referee's announcement).

really sucks to read league fights are being glossed over. I was so hyped too after reading the thread's old posts

I don't mind that they're blazing through the early league fights. They're fodder. It's showing that Ash is now so strong that these randos no longer matter.

Yeah they're definitely hyping the Ash vs Alain fight.

Now the question is when
Team Flare will interrupt
.

But for now we become the MOONLIGHT BUTTERFLY

because those fights are merely stepping stones. In this league Ash and Alain are the Tobiases.

The league is more plot-centric than battle-centric now. And the only challenge Ash will have is from Shota and Alain. And Ash promised a punk that he will fight for the tears of those who didn't make it in the league.

(random trivia - that trainer is actually a staff member cameo - Tomohisa Sako (singer of Getta Banban) - as the character's name is Tomo and Tomohisa's favorite mon is Altaria)

Now that UFC 200 is done, #AshAtKalos is clearly the most hyped sporting event going on right now.

What are his chances of like, at least reaching the finals?

So this thread got me started on watching the dub on Netflix. I'm hooked though I kinda want to skip over to watch the league stuff wherever it's available.

It's balls to the wall amazing animation at times. It's overall quality is good, but sometimes it's like. Am I really watching Pokemon?

Do they still dub Pokemon? Also what would be a good season to get back into it? I imagine it's not like some shows where you need to watch every single episode to get the full experience.

He's already in Top 4, so pretty good.

Everything we know heavily suggests he'll beat Sawyer/Shota in the top 4 match, and face Alain in the finals

Yes, in fact you can watch a big chunk of the XY dub on netflix, and a lot of other seasons of the dub are online legally as well. That said, the XY dub has different and worse music than the sub, so I'd still recommend the sub. It's very easy to pick the anime back up at the start of XY (In fact, I did this and previously had only had stopped after a very limited experience with the hoenn and sinnoh portions of the show). XY is a really strong season, and a lot of the filler is pretty entertaining as well IMO

so semi-spoilers, these are the pokemon that appeared in the data broadcast lineup (data broadcast is some tv minigame you could play in Japanese broadcast, read up more here). They usually put major pokemon on the day of said broadcast, but minor if it's a human-centric ep.

DDGWGF4.jpg

now the raichu one has aired, it's the Tierno vs Shota ep. There's no episode this week as it is the premiere of the Volcanion movie so it's Hoopa (as instead they're airing last year's movie)

we got episode titles up to the third future ep

>XY&Z034: Semifinal Full Battle! Ash VS Shota!! [Jul 21st]
Preview: http://www.pocketmonsters.net/main/news/2665
>XY&Z035: Fierce Rival Battle! Ash Greninja VS Mega Sceptile [Jul 28th]
>XY&Z036: Fierce Fighting at the Kalos League! Gather, All of My Passion!! [Aug 4th]

and that matches Aegislash (the first part of shota fight) and Sceptile (second part), and Chespin is the "breather" ep 36 (but apparently still important since Tomioka is writing it). The Metagross and Charizard definitely are Alain's pokemon and definitely will be the grand finals fight as it is a two-parter. Houndour onwards scream Team Flare.

It changed studios when the Gen VI stuff started. That was accompanied by a notable increase in animation quality.

uh no, it's still the same: OLM

it's just they have better budget, and I think they got different animators

Oh, I had head the anime was being handled by the same group that worked on Origins, and had assumed that that was a separate studio.

Well I guess this means Malamar will be returning for an episode to wrap up that story lol.

We usually get teasers/trailers at the end of the movies so we will probably be getting a new Pokemon next week in addition to whatever CoroCoro has.

Oh nice I think I will check it out. I may stick with the dub for somewhat nostalgic reasons.

This season will end with Ash both winning the league and getting Serena as he retires as champion. Lots of childhoods will be vindicated in the coming weeks.

DO IT FOR US ASHY BOY.

Goddamn that animation looks fucking superb. When did Pokemon get so good?

That one Greninja move looks like some Rasenshuriken shit.

The XY series has been a massive step up for animation.

No longer does it have the cut to animation of them using the attack with a moving background, it's always contextual and it looks great

For real. Time to man up Ash.

Please let him win please. Haven't you guys dragged us around long enough?

Ash already fist-bumped Serena how much further can he go. I really hope they keep her for Alola, I mean she looks basically the same as the girl character. Surprisingly I feel the Animation peaks during some of Serena's performances.

Also the dub is pretty good. If you watch it exclusively you wont even notice they change most of the music. The music from the games that is in the anime is amazing though.

Yeah love whenever they use music from the game. I marked out the first few times when I heard the Pokemon Center healing sound and the battling music.

edit: And yeah I hope Ash finally gets both Ws by winning the league and Serena thus taking her with him to Alola.

I genuinely feel like Ash will win The League and maybe even recognise Serena's feelings for him. He has been really mature this season.

So does Pikachu have an "Ash" form? If not why the hell doesn't it

And how high are the odds Greninja gets boxed and barely seen again when Ash goes to Alola

Pikachu is the prototype to John Cena. Pikachu is there to overcome the odds.

It started with Onix & Raichu on S1, then Dragonite, Regice, Latios and Mega-Lucario

I wouldn't even be surprised if Pikachu is the last Pokemon standing in the finals because Greninja faints vs Charizard X but somehow Pikachu overcomes the odds... Again.

But the Japanese version uses much, much more of it!

I've certainly heard worse dub scores though, if you don't have anything to compare it to you probably won't mind. Still wouldn't recommend it as it's an inferior product.

You know what could be great for filler this season?, Ash going back to Johto or Hoenn and getting into either league. He has the medals, and if he has to win them again, hell let him carry all the powerful pokemons he has and make it a quick 25 episode "season" before the new gen starts.

And you can use any of the other rivals he found on the older seasons to face him on the league.
