That'd be a shame. For me, bone dry means absolutely zero life.
It's what makes finding something alive all the more mystical.
Don't act like you don't know it's procedural.
That is a pretty nice site. Wonder how long it's going to take for a teleport to player mod of the sort is made. I can imagine it even being the same day as release.
HYPOTHETICALLY, if NMS gets good mod support, we could all pretty much get our perfect customized NMS.
Life in only 0.5% of planets + tougher combat + slower upgrading.
Ohhhhh yeah.
In a world where there are billions and billions of planets, yes, it is rushed.
Don't get me wrong: 40 hours of gameplay is an incredible amount of time anyway. People worried about the game's "worth" should be at ease in this era of 79 $ shooters.
But still, he's been on a roll. Less than an hour spent on every planet, without considering travel time.
Nothing is going to please the overhyped and the haters alike.
People are kidding themselves if they think they're going to land on 400-500 planets and still be spending hours on planets 100 to 500. You might spend hours on your first one or even the first 10, but be realistic.
I just don't understand why somebody is being demonised for engaging in a mechanic of the game (that is, reaching the centre). With all that has been made about making that journey, why is it suddenly an illegitimate way of playing the game?
But the devs stated 40-100 hours. In that context he's right in line with regular time.
You can't possibly judge his time based on the amount of planets. If you did beating the game 50 years from now would still be "rushed." But ya know....negativity and all.
You can stay on a planet forever if you want.
"Lets project what I wont be doing in the game on everyone else"
Here is part 2 if you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GZgwNRTinc
And where exactly did I say that?
I was only putting things into perspective; every way to play this game is legitimate.
Pretending this one leaker's journey is some sort of blueprint for the experience of others is rather dumb.
He said it himself that he went straight for the center "landing on planets to make space travel less boring". Fair enough. But you know that people are going to take this playthrough and say "18 billionstrilllions planets and the game is over in just 30 hours".
Exactly, you can't. But that's what's going on anyway. "he's already finished the game". Which is dumb by its own merits, by the way.
I'm going to role play that I married one of the aliens, started a family, moved into a house, and then I will live on that planet for hundreds of hours. Then, finally after years, I'll depart that planet and cry remembering all the good times I had. But I'll also be optimistic, looking forward to my next long journey on planet #2People are kidding themselves if they think they're going to land on 400-500 planets and still be spending hours on planets 100 to 500. You know what I meant, stop playing with words.
Throwing around 2^64 planets just make this look worse, really. Even if they went and put something designed on some planets.. what's that, 0,000000000000000000000000000001% of them? and what are the odds of me finding it? Am i supposed to go around every single planet and exploring every inch?
2^64 planets are there just like a level in a roguelike game. You get what you need in order to increse your level/power/whatever and go on in this case. Nothing stops you if you want to stay and look around but that's not the design here. Like someone said earlier, you can play ocarina of time pretending to be a citizen in hyrule castle town..
I'm curious myself: what do you expect do find on a planet that grants hours and hours of exploration? They show us multiple times how the game works and the impression here is something like starbound without the crafting, building and terraforming stuff.
It's always Fucking Fred. And then a big, deathly looking planet will show up and blow up your home planet with nothing you could do to prevent it. But then you realize that your wife cheated on you with Fred after being given a second chance and move on to planet #2 to renew the cycle.
No, I'm pretty sure nobody is going to make that claim.
The insinuation you and others are making is that this person had a lesser experience because they did not take more time to soak in more planets. Because they reached the centre in roughly the same number of hours estimated by HG, apparently this person has "rushed" and not properly enjoyed the game. What other possible insinuation could you possibly be making when you say it's rushed?
Personally, I don't see what the freakout is all about. The leaker doesn't seem to have had a horrible time with the game and he's said he's going to keep playing. I don't see why people have got themselves into such a tizzy to make excuses that don't need to be made.
Yeah.
I feel that like Daggerfall and Spore this game will just remind us again that procedural generation isn't the holy grail of content generation that will guarantee infinite amount of playable content.
The number 18 quintillion doesn't really matter, that's marketing speak, it's still all about variables programmed by humans which there is a limited amount.
If I generate 18 quintillion numbers between 1 and 100 using my cool 64-bit system, it's still just 100 different numbers. I just might see the number 77 a quintillion times which doesn't make it any more interesting.
It's always Fucking Fred.
Well, that's the reason they call him Fucking Fred.

My only concern is that the game doesn't seem challenging. Dude was landing on planets just to break up the monotony of flying everywhere in space unchallenged and didn't die once in his whole journey. I don't want a super challenging game, but it sounds a bit like a walk in the park so far.
Currently, Beam Upgrades for your multi tool seem broken and ass backwards. Upgrades that are supposed to slow down the heat up of your beam, actually speed it up. Upgrades that are supposed to speed up the mining speed of the beam, actually slow it down. Essentially, your STARTING beam is as powerful as it can be, and if you upgrade it with +1 +2 +3 beam upgrade modules it becomes UNUSABLE. This would, in theory, mean that the fully upgraded beam is actually the beam you're supposed to START with, which would mean my early exploration would have gone a LOT slower.
I can imagine that once you understand how to protect yourself from the environment and get better gear + not pissing off the sentinels, it'd be pretty easy. I want to play the game with tons of combat so I wonder how hard it can get!
I'm loving how this dude's experience playing the game is basically acting as an ink blot test for people who have already decided they love or hate this god damn game.
It's just a bit surprising that on someone's first spoiler-free playthrough, they died zero times in 30 hours.
I think the reason people are disappointed is because of how vague the pre-release stuff was. Everybody kind of just filled in a bunch of stuff that was pretty obviously not there.
A lot of the information was sort of there if you read between the lines, but a lot of people filled the space between the lines with their dream game.
If they had shown more of the game less people would be hanging on this guy's word.

Definitely, although it also sort of seems like they really did show pretty much everything there is to do in the game and people just didn't realize/believe that they'd seen the full gameplay loop (or Sony/HG were intentionally vague about it? Which I kind of doubt, but)
You bring up a point; people confusing what they want in the game with what is actually there, and then feeling betrayed when those things just don't exist. Although the 4 recently released trailers felt weird, they really did show you what you do in the game. There are more things that you can do that aren't in the trailer, but they do a good job of showing what is in the realm of possibility. I'm looking forward to it more than I originally was because of that one 26min video, and nearly everything he did in it was shown in those 4 trailers, barring the quick cuts.

The fact that some people are thinking that he has to be playing wrong or he skipped so many things (do they really believe there are mechanics or progression in 35 hours?) and he can't be trusted is hilarious.
Why can't people just get over the fact that the devs DON'T WANT TO SHOW YOU CERTAIN THINGS and let people figure it out for themselves. There has been plenty of game play footage.

"BUT I NEED JUSTIFICATION TO SPEND MY MONEY"
Wait for a sale.
While they have shown plenty. But they have never shown the entire gameplay loop in a contiguous fashion. You seldom got to see people fiddling with menus or a 20 minute section of a person scavenging materials.
They can do as they like. There is no need to get angry. But I'm just explaining the consequence of them choosing to do it this way.
So i know we don't have confirmation yet, but I'm taking this new information to mean it will in fact be impossible to meet another player if the galaxies are generated on the fly?
Full disclosure, I've always been a No Man's Sky skeptic. But yeah, this is kind of where I'm at. I'm seeing a lot of bargaining. The people asking "what if it's an old build?" "what if he missed a big huge secret aspect of the game?" etc etc...
...except that it sounds like they really did show pretty much everything.
So you have seen all the planets and what not? What is "everything"?
The planets are generated by a formula that outputs the same data no matter what. You can fly away from the planet as to unload it, un-generate it, but upon your return, it will re-generate exactly the same way it did before because of this for formula(s). It generates the same data for everyone, btw.
