Pretty much my take on it too.

I just don't get why they're not upfront about it. They wouldn't be the first ones to have major features patched in.

Except, of course, they don't plan on doing so ever.

Steam refunds.

And yeah either not wanting to put the resources and or not being able to do it. Either way this misguiding communication is made to keep as many sales as possible with the hype train going at full steam. Hope it backfires.

So Sean is a liar. It's a pretty poor show and frankly quite disappointing. I think they realized the servers simply couldn't handle it.

Which is perfectly fine, normal and understandable for a 15-man company. What is not is being shady about it.

Where are the people that were jumping on me when I said the picture was real??

so, what does this mean?

That they obviously intended for the game to have multiplayer components the way they described before launch, and at the last minute decided to change it, so technically the game didn't have "issues". It's a single player game working as intended.

But when the initial leaked picture was released a large number of people were claiming it was fake, as Hello Games would never do something like this.

Cause 7 yrs old seems about right to play the game. Also stickers bro.

Game has always been online. You share discoveries. I don't see the big deal here.

Sean said that "you can play with your friends" and that other players can see what you look like. So they lied.

The functionality itself doesn't sway my views on the game much at all, but the refusal to admit any wrongdoing here is something else.

Enjoy your game, guys.

Sony also should be heavily criticised for the sticker situation because they're the ones publishing it on PS4.

Well what if HG didn't let Sony know they couldn't get multiplayer working (or whatever caused this sticker situation) until the last possible moment when all of this shit had already been printed and packaged?

Gotta keep those steam preorders locked in. I'm sure they'll clarify it sometime this weekend.

What is the Money Back Guarantee?
At GOG.com, we're confident in the quality of the games we sell and the work that we put into getting them ready for you to play them. If a game that you've bought on GOG.com doesn't work and our team of expert Support staff can't solve the problem for you, we will give you back your money.

I guess if people care enough they can get their money back through GoG for up to thirty days if they want to classify it as false advertising or something..

So, the stickers were a real thing? That's embarrassing.

Sean should come and make a clear statement about this stuff asap. I guess he's strongly avoiding some shitstorm though.

So it's confirmed. The game was supposed to have real-time online interactions, but it was cut before release, and now Sean/HG are being really shady about it and avoiding giving any straight answers. I'm not bothered as much by the lack of the feature (that would just have been a cool bonus for me) as the way they've handled it. Disappointing. Should have just come out and clearly said what's what, Sean.

Seek victory, not fairness
Every single person that defended this throughout this thread needs to come and answer for their sins before gods and men

The instancing is universe-level and we're in the darker timeline with no multiplayer

Sean said that "you can play with your friends" and that other players can see what you look like. So they lied.

By sitting on the couch together and looking over on the couch

(I'll still pick it up anyway, but this is hilarious)

so, what does this mean?

Nothing if you ask me, it's just PEGI stuff.

You're very confused

I know where the stickers were, thank you very much. I peeled them myself and I'm not senile yet. It's PEGI classification stuff, the with icons stuff. The line with the actual features is below, in blue, and states "online functionalities". This wasn't covered by a sticker. So that's why I'm saying the OP is wrong.

I feel like this thread is the ultimate form of a "big deal out of nothing".

Without any solid base to stand on even.

This is not a multiplayer game. Never was. It doesn't even play 1% into why one should buy or play it. Seeing other players one day would be neat, I'll just expect it to never happen and possibly be surprised one day.

If not having multiplayer was the straw that broke the camel's back, I don't know what game you've been paying attention to. It wasn't No Man's Sky.

They have been implying for years now that this would have multi. That was a huge selling point for me and I don't doubt that it was for many others as well.

How far back into this experiment are you living?

This whole test between those two people already happened yesterday, and at one point the person without PS+ got PS+ and it still didn't work.

It's not like I've really been keeping track.

I read the last page before I posted and some people said one of them lacked PS+. I didn't see anyone saying otherwise, so I assumed that to be the case.

Seemed I was misinformed.

No I know that sorry. Interesting looking at my LE box just how it says 1 player only and online play optional. Online play can mean anything.

In this case, the online play can technically mean the naming of planets and uploading them to the server.

The fact that it says "1 player only" is pretty definitive, in my eyes.

I'm really thinking they wanted it in but couldn't get it in in time. Maybe after the Driveclub mess they had to bench it for now rather than release something broken? I dunno, I'm just spitballing here

No, they really haven't. They've actually explained that the multi would be very limited AT BEST. So no, I'm not buying that at all. Sorry.

You send data to a server and a server sends data back to you. So does an online leaderboard in a single player game. You dont get classified as having online features if you only have a leaderboard but you're still sending data back on forth. Same as sending and receiving player named systems/animals. Therefore NMS can get away with its classification because the online component is a basic back and forth.

The sticker thing is a bit reaching. Sony has made quite a few mistakes in boxarts over the years, so them covering this one is nothing extraordinary.

Of course, it fits with the topic.

and once again people will lash out at the developers for working within the limitations that game development provides them. instead of industry marketing that would never allow a studio to announce a canned feature for fear of this exact backlash.

marketing shoots itself in the foot yet again. and passes the blame onto the devs.

I still hold my previous opinion that i feel sorry for the devs.

How in the hell was it a huge selling point? They said it would be in there yes, but they also said the likely hood of you running into another player was astronomically low.

So I fail to see how that would be a driving force behind your purchase? It was NEVER even shown. It was just off hand comments.

Sean said there's a ping feature to help locate nearby players, which I assume syncs the two sessions somehow when it determines two players are within ping distance of each other. Eventually the two players land in the same instance hosted on one of the two PS4S.

Two questions:

Did the two streamers use this ping feature, or just land on the same planet at the same time?

Is anything transmitted from the PS4 (eg location data) when this feature is used?

Otherwise, isn't this as simple as two dark souls players walking to the same spot and expecting to see each other?

I don't have the game yet, so if anyone can investigate this pinging feature it'd be appreciated.

So the very, very, very rare chance of meeting another player online in the universe, was a huge selling point for you?

Really?

You should do better research before buying games.
