I got invited to 2.5 PTU! I haven't played in a while, so I'm curious - have they actually fixed the matchmaking with friends yet?

Looks like a blanket invite for all subscribers. They've been pushing the subscriber rewards pretty hard lately. Select ships to test each month, special subscriber only ship sales, PTU invites, and of course all the previous subscriber perks.

But... I'm not even a subscriber...

To be exact it was a second wave of invites and all subscribers. So you were the non subscriber part. I, on the other hand, was no doubt part of the subscriber invites. They're certainly not inviting me for my nonexistent issue feedback lol.

Just got reminded of this game because of No Man's sky and was just wondering if there's a release date for the "real" game yet (not dogfighting sim or hangar modules)? I haven't read through the thread, sorry again.

To be fair, there are the beginnings of the Persistent Universe already playable. It's only one system and mechanics are pretty thin, but it's there.

No release date.

Remember. Star Citizen is TWO games.

Squadron 42...single player Wing Commanderesque game with full story to build the lore of the universe.

Star Citizen Persistent Universe...the MMO.

There are no release dates for either, but Squadron will be out within the next 12 months.

Yea 30 would be a great point to hit. Especially for just messing about on Kareah and such. Trying to get into gunfights when it's dropping into the low teens sometimes on a 1070 is miserable.

I'm getting consistent 30 fps in 2.4 with only a 970. It's not always the case, but most of the time (check my video above) the game is pretty smooth for me.

I know you're not making the insinuation that they're similar, but if anything, NMS should remind you more of Elite Dangerous. For all the differences, there's at least some shared aspects between NMS and ED. Unless you were reminded of SC precisely because you wanted something entirely different. ;)

I mean, Star Citizen's goals are pretty much the antithesis of NMS'. A limited, (mostly) hand crafted universe vs an endless procedurally generated one. In depth multiplayer oriented gameplay loops (perhaps ridiculously so) vs simple single player resource gathering. Frankly, other than being in the space genre, there's very little similar between them. Which really made all the NMS comparisons to SC from before the hype rug got pulled out from under it all the more amusing.

It's a pity NMS ended up so shallow though. While I'm glad we'll no longer get the comparisons to that game, I was hoping to enjoy NMS for what it was. As it turns out, I'd be better off just returning to Elite. Hopefully the base building can add something more compelling to the experience.

Cool, realizing I got an invite just after talking to a coworker about how I was hoping for more stuff to mess around with soon in SC. Haven't played at all since the early days of 2.0, looking forward to checking out what's changed.

aaaaaaand now I'm reading D*rek Sm*rt's Twitter again. God this is such a rabbit hole. He actually compares NMS to Star Citizen as if they've done anything similar. I need to stop reading this nonsense

(asterisks used to prevent the batsignal from going out over Google Alerts or whatever he uses)

I clicked through to one, and then quickly backed out. Better to save my sanity. I read enough stupid shit every day thanks to Trump. I don't need to further erode my faith in humanity.

Meh, fuck this guy. Doesn't help that I feel bad right now for a myriad of things and that I've slept badly for the past three days. And I'm stupid enough to forget my 3DS so I can't play Animal Crossing to try to relax. Meh. I guess I'll just turn off everything and lie on my bed staring at my ceiling for the next couple of hours.

Wait... he makes games?

In the loosest sense of the word. I have some magazines back home with BC3K previews from 1992, 1994 and, finally, 1996. It was that generation's Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana back before we had Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana.

I got in to 2.5 PTU. The FPS is atrocious--almost unplayable--and I'm running an OC 6700k and 980Ti. Not for the faint of the heart. It's a testing environment so I'm okay with it, but wanted to report on my first experience. On the good side, the Reliant and Grim Hex are amazing.

Doesn't matter if you have a godly machine or a toaster. It's all server limited right now. Going to suck no matter what. More than anything else, that's the one thing that needs fixing.

What are your system specs? RAM specifically. Also, make sure you close the log in app prior to the game completing it's start.

I logged in last night with my 970 and, while it wasn't as fast as 2.4, my frames were between 20-30 fps...never lower.

watch my video from 7:00 on.

(the server side issues...I downloaded late PST time so there were less people hitting the servers at that time)

It's pretty smooth and your GPU should be getting at least 15 fps higher than me.

I downloaded last night at 10:00 pm PST.

Thanks! I actually didn't realize that it's been split into two different games (I remember there was an FPS game planned for a while I think that was canceled though). Glad that there will be something soon!

...

I was just thinking of it because they're the two big space games I've been looking forward to :)

Apparently the latest 2.5 versions are a horrible mess of desync issues and the patch that just went live trying to fix these issues is known to cause "frequent server crashes". Enjoy!

The FPS mode still exists, I think they said it's coming out on patch 2.6?

Not experienced any of that. You seem to be listening to the odd sort. Is this a Trump-esque "I hear things".

Post history indicates that it's definitely possible.

Then again, the last few times I tried the main branch were disappointing.. I gave up a few months back and I'm waiting for a network revamp or whatever.

Just click on the forums and read people complaining about performance getting worse. 2.5g was recently released, 2.5d seemed to have been pretty consistent with previous versions but constantly crashed. Patch notes for 2.5g mentioned that they were aware of constant crashes too.
