^^ How do you explain Goku killing King Piccolo then?
Unless you are in the camp that it was a zenkai boost, and super sacred water is fake.

That was not an 'easy power up'. Rewatch that, the fake family reunion is so fucked up in that.
Besides, Piccolo wishing himself young is the real easy power up their. Look what happened to him.

Goku and Vegeta putting earrings on?

Did Vegito defeat Majin Buu?

Zamasu does a Kami and gets rid of his evil side which is the Black we know. Somehow the evil spirit that was Zamasu needed a host/body and found a way to take future dead Goku's body. Mystery solved :p

How did Goku Black know Vegeta though?

Except
Future Zamas is evil still as seen in the DB Heroes clip. Also Black's personality isn't like Zamas

vegito could if he wanted to. goku refused to fuse again with vegita because kid buu was using his own power without any fusion

And is it me or do they look older here than they do now lol

They both kind of suffer from the same issue here and the Buu saga - they randomly look older when they're wearing their gi compared to their casual clothes (their head/body proportion is different). It's just that in Super they're wearing their gi much less than in Z.

Just watched the last two episodes. The Goku-Beerus dynamic might be my favourite thing in DBS. It's just so fun to see those two interact in the way they do. Not to mention Whis who is pretty good as well.

Beerus and Whis are some of Toriyama's best characters ever.

Beerus needs to put Goku back in his place, he's getting too comfortable laying his hands on god.

King Kai finally telling Goku to get the fuck off his planet was so great.

Remember growing up how many times we had to watch DBZ get to the end of Frieza and then start over from the beginning? Good times.
It was exactly the same in Australia. The wait for new episodes were long and painful.
What i would give for another all out piccolo fight
Heck I was hyped just watching Piccolo vs Frost. Lord knows how much i'd love another all out Piccolo fight.

Too bad it probably wont happen.
and yeah the glossy art sucks but this is hella sick imo

there are some things I can appreciate about the new style. The background paintings are nice
12 glorious minutes of this soon.

I think it's stupid beyond belief. Why Mai?

Present Mai may have a kid's body, but she still remembers maturing and being an adult, so her "romance" with kid Trunks is... Creepy.

I have no idea if this shit comes from Toriyama, or if some writer is some hardcore Mai fan, because this is straight fanfiction.net material.

I think we are probably supposed to assume that Mai is mentally a kid again, even if she retains memories of her adult form. But yeah this is peculiar :/

While waiting for more super eps I decided to revisit my young teen years and watch several dub episodes of DBZ, it took an ep or two to get used to Gohan's voice but it's all flowing back and i'm enjoying watching the ginyu force again.

The DB Heroes doesn't really suggest Zamasu is evil, and also I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into it as actually representing the arc at hand. Afterall the feature battle for the Universe 6 arc in DB Heroes in a PV was SSJ Blue Goku vs. First form Frost, lol.

I said this once, but Mai was always a old-fashioned girl. She have always had the mentally of a kid lol.

That's kind of like saying some fat 45 years old man is ok to fall in love with a little girl because "he has always been a kid in his mind".

To be fair to Mai in Super, it's not unusual for a girl her age (both mentally and physically) to be infatuated with an adult like Trunks. What's weird was in the Battle of Gods movie she was infatuated with Kid Trunks, but in Super that never really happened.

Oh yeah, I have no issue with kid Mai having a crush on Future Trunks (Even if she's actually old enough to be his mother...).

But kid Mai falling in love with kid Trunks is a huge no.

I've been playing mind gymnastics with all these spoilers lol

Since most other Anime's I have the luxury of reading the Manga which is the original work. Not with this though, so I want to stay oblivious. Though all these tags makes it truly tempting.

I don't know if I'd want 17 in this arc. I'd rather 17 show up in an arc that makes more sense for him. If they were to have him in this arc, it probably would have been earlier in the arc when Trunks met 18.

Power boost wise, I don't think they can really make him relevant, besides some upgrade from Bulma/ Fusion with 18.

17's only chance at relevancy is 18, and since she is basically written out of the show... (she's not even included on the Toei website for the characters..... Yamcha is...)

Also, let's take bets.

Blue hair or purple hair for Trunks in the new FnF footage.

I say purple.

I'd like to preface this with by saying that one of the reasons why I enjoy Cell's design, (In particular, perfect Cell) is because it is a product of editorial telling Toriyama to try harder. The whole reason why Cell transforms in the first place is because Toriyama's editor told him that his first two Cell designs were not cool enough. And you know what? He was right. As much as I like the very inhuman-buglike Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell is an incredibly good design. I'm not going to comment on Semi-Perfect Cell too much because I feel like the wrong direction was being granted in his design process, but he does share some similarities. Perfect Cell is a result of Toriyama being forced to refine his concept and it is very successful. Toriyama having to redesign and "perfect" his concept gels very well with the whole concept of the villain itself. Usually the transformation device is pretty lazy, but Cell is probably the best example of transformations being used well. Usually editorial interference in most things is fucking annoying but I think this is one of the few cases in which it was needed.

Obviously people have very rational criticisms of the story of the Cell saga (not ones that I really agree with, but rational nonetheless) but I'm talking about Cell from a purely concept art and design perspective.

The wings: The wings work on a conceptual and design level. Conceptually cell is supposed to be a creepy, gross, horrific bug, so he has bug wings. I know you're being glib, but it would betray the entire concept of the character if he had these beautiful angelic detailed wings. I for one, am appreciative of the fact that Cell doesn't have the horrifically cliche anime ~angel wings~. Also, the wings function perfectly on a design level, as they contribute to what I think is one of the coolest silhouettes in Dragonball, which employs an effective use of a triangle motif. This lends the design a really balanced sense of shape harmony, which is something that Toriyama didn't really nail down with Freiza until his final form. Again, S.P. Cell kind of loses track of this, but It's still present:

Of course, inside the form of Cell (in the lines and details instead of the overall shape in silhouette) He uses much rounded shapes that are present in Toriyama's more typical designs. Having a a clear, recognizable silhouette with large, simple shapes allows for interesting detail such as the spots. Also, the silhouette needs to be clear from far away, so in distance shots of Cell fighting or doing something, it reads immediately. Another example of a good use of the triangle motif is the Saiyan Saga, apparent in the Saiyan armor designs and Vegeta and Radditz's hair.

This brings me to your point about the crown. Again, it is a part of the overall triangular motif. It also serves two different design functions: to provide a gestural "flow" of direction that draws attention to Cell's face, and to provide a "rest" area of low detail and large shapes that would contrast with the high detail and small shapes of Cell's face. Luckily, there are sketches that Toriyama has done which perfectly illustrates this, and why having Cell without the crown is less effective:

And yeah, it does look "weird", but that is the whole point! I could also get into how the color choices and patterns are another cool aspect of Cell's design (and why it's part of the reason Perfect Cell is the best out of the three) but this post is already too long and I wanted to address your two points.

I'm also not claiming that Toriyama was actively thinking about any of this, but I think it's pretty evident that great design is just a part of his instinct. While I enjoy GT, this is why the character designs that are not Toriyama's just look sooooo lame in comparison. You can copy the way he draws faces, hands or poses, but you cannot emulate the man's intuition.

Just so you know, I read your response and will be offering a great rebuttal shortly. Tremendous rebuttal, in fact.
