Taking off on Wednesday 10th August, ‘No Man’s Sky’ shoots straight to No1.

It becomes Sony’s 2nd biggest ever PS4 launch (behind Uncharted 4) and Sony’s biggest launch for a new IP on PS4. In terms of new IP across all publishers and Sony formats it sits 5th behind Destiny (PS4), Watch Dogs (PS4), The Getaway (PS2) and The Last of Us (PS3). Last week’s No1 ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-22%) drops to No2 while the rest of the Top 10 shuffles amongst itself. ‘Mario & Sonic: Rio 2016 Olympic Games’ (+12%) climbs 8 places to No15, its highest ever chart position, as the Olympic Games itself gets underway.

Was not expecting that.

What was the marketing presence like for NMS?

I didn't see any adverts on billboards or on buses.

Solid results for NMS, Sony marketed the game well.

Were we to see the same treatment for Gravity Rush 2...

Great news for Hello Games, i have already put in over 30 hours myself and have been loving it so far.

Hopefully the mixed reviews don't hurt its legs too much and HG continue to expand on the content as they originally planned because i know they want to continue to add things to do and grow the scope of the game long term.

I am so happy for NMS and Hello Games, they deserve this success. They made a wonderful game and given me dozens of hours of enjoyment already (and robbed me of so much sleep in the process).
This news has really made my day.

Whatever people's opinion of the game, their release, marketing and pricing strategy clearly worked. It's sold better than Bloodborne which was itself a success and also likely considerably more expensive to develop.

People might point at zero legs next week (after the reviews and impressions hit - we'll see) but this game doesn't need them. It's probably already sold more than enough to pay for itself with such a small dev team.

Congrats to Hello Games, that's a fantastic start. I'll never get tired of NMS' vistas. Or the phallic creatures. Both are good.

I hope publishers look at this and see they can release games anytime. This July-August dead period of the older times should end. People that play games are not just kids anymore.

If Konami was smart they should start releasing PES the weekend before the Premier League starts (it would have been last Friday) and see everyone wanting to get a new football game because of the excitement of the new season get it instead of waiting another month for FIFA.

You can spend the same marketing budget and it would still not sell as well. Some games appeal to the mainstream market much easier than others.

Konami is too incompetent. They released before FIFA last year, but only updated the transfers at the end of October, then STILL missed the last transfer day and finally updated the game properly in December. So what's the point of releasing in August when you have to wait until December for the correct squads.

In terms of new IP across all publishers and Sony formats it sits 5th behind Destiny (PS4), Watch Dogs (PS4), The Getaway (PS2) and The Last of Us (PS3).

iirc The Division did ~150k on PS4.

That means NMS is > 150k, right?

Great news for NMS. My opinion of it is highly mixed but I want it to succeed and grow.

Amazing achievement and shows again with the right backing and push, games can sell big in the slow months and potentially is the sweet spot to launch a new IP in there too.

I havent even seen a TV spot for it here in the UK yet, o_O

What a crazy ride this game has given us, lol.
Yeah me either, prime ad space on a weekend is football and staurday night and I didn't see one add for it. This will have sold well digitally on ps4 too, it's fiver cheaper than other titles in the uk and if you didn't order it online it was the same price in store as it was on psn.

In terms of new IP across all publishers and Sony formats it sits 5th behind Destiny (PS4), Watch Dogs (PS4), The Getaway (PS2) and The Last of Us (PS3).

If it is 5th biggest new IP launch across all publishers on PS4, that means NMS is above 149k on PS4.
.
The Division

So:
PS4 > 149,580

EDIT :

GfK Chart-Track doesn't consider it a new IP, it is considered as a Tom Clancy title, also The Last of Us sold fewer copies than The Division.

Any idea how much then for NMS?
