Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

People getting crashes on Nvidia GPUS: Try setting the power management mode to prefer maximum performance in your nvidia control Panel (Manage 3d settings).

Okay, wow. You know what is the real killer at 4K resolution? It's not CHS, turning it off does nothing in 4K. In fact from CHS Ultra to CHS Off is literally about 1 fps difference. Nope, the murderer's name is Depth of Field.

Depth of Field: Very High -> On

Average: 32.9 fps
Minimum: 28.2 fps
Maximum: 39.2 fps

Depth of Field: On -> Off

Average: 34.4 fps
Minimum: 29.3 fps
Maximum: 41.5 fps

I'll probably just go with DoF On because it does make things look a lot nicer.

If you're also attempting to reach 4K/30 fps with a 1080, here's my final settings. I think this is as good as I'm going to get until 2017 and Volta comes along. I'm going to go play the game now.

Resolution: 3840x2160
MSAA: Off
Vsync: Double-Buffered

Texture Quality: Ultra
Texture Filtering: 16x Anisotropic
Shadow Quality: Very High
CHS: On
TAA: On
Motion Blur: Your choice (I chose Off)
DoF: On
Bloom: On
Volumetric Lighting: On
Subsurface Scattering: On
Cloth Physics: On
Ambient Occlusion: Very High
Tessellation: On
POM: High
SSR: On
Sharpen: Off
Chromatic Aberration: Your choice (I chose On)
Level of Detail: Very High

Is that the only setting you changed?

Yep.

There's like no DoF in-game but in cutscenes so if you're judging from the benchmark it's very misleading.

So no word on disabling the intro videos?
Probably stored in one of the slightly customised(?) bink video files in the game data directory. I couldn't be bothered to install the appropriate tools tonight and try to figure out which of the hashed files is the correct one or if they can be played by the official bink tools at all, but I'd start there.

Intel Core i5-750 @ 4GHz
EVGA GTX 970 SSC

FPS 55-75, scripted sequences are usually what make it dip below 60

Thanks for the settings i have the same 970 and getting constant 50-80 fps. Really smooth and beautiful.

Does anyone else hate how the augmentations are mapped to F1-F4, which are laid out horizontally on the keyboard, yet on the HUD they're represented in the shape of a cross/D-pad?

Why do developers keep doing this shit on PC? Would it really have been hard for them to lay the icons out horizontally when using M&KB, that way you can actually tell at a glance which augmentation corresponds to which F-key?

I feel like I can already write a book on everything wrong with the PC version. Another thing I hate is how you're supposed to constantly hold E while dragging bodies, which in turn makes it ridiculously difficult to simultaneously steer yourself with WASD without tying your fingers into a knot. Seriously, did they even test this shit with M&KB?

What are your specs?

I just disabled SLI again after rolling back the drivers, the game is finally giving me playable framerates in the intro.

Geting 30-50fps in the intro now at 1440p 70-100% GPU usage on my single 970.

As long as this holds up I can manage. Hopefully it gets patched/drivers get fixed so I can use my second card.

For now, I have half an hour to play before work, 6 hours of tweaking later.

So SLI fucked up your performance? Bummer really. 50 FPS at 1440p sounds reasonable assumin your are on ultra minus MSAA as I get above 60 on 1080p on a 1070.

This shot is from a built-in benchmark btw which looks considerably better than whatever I saw in the game itself yet.

I couldn't as well so I made the shots. With CHS being Ultra you're getting very wide shadow penumbra - which is probably the reason for a performance loss here as this is calculated on the fly via filtering / gaussian blurring of shadow map values depending on how far they are from the light source. I don't know about you but I can't say that Ultra looks better than Off there. Off gives you a more detailed shadows with twice the performance so... I'll think about turning them off - at least until Nixxes will make them work without loosing 50% of performance on a GTX1080.
Oh, the area from the benchmark is in there and looks unbelievable even on the consoles (less so, obviously). It's a beautiful area.

Um is this normal? For the first level of the game, I am getting 30-40 FPS on ultra with a 970 and an AMD XII Phenom 955. I ask if its normal because this seems like surprisingly good performance despite what I have been told.

Jumped on quick to check out the benchmark. 980 Ti & 4790k, Very High preset:

Avg: 59
Min: 53
Max: 64

Looked good to me. Really like this engine. May wind up playing with the Elite until they suss out mouse input, but otherwise seems like it is good to go.

4790k @ 4.7ghz
16gb ddr3 @1866mhz
980ti - 30% OC over stock speeds

I'm gonna be playing it at 1440p. What minimal setting changes would I need to make to ensure a smooth 60fps at nearly all times? I don't mind the occasional dip in fps honestly.

Fortunately you can easily remap the augmentation hotkeys, almost on the fly (I think it was the B menu). Also I don't think you need to keep E pressed to drag a body. Keep pressed initially to pick it up, then letting go and moving around seems to have worked for me. But I could be wrong, didn't pay close attention.

Does sb know how to use quick saves and quick loads?

Here is how you disable them;

You can wait a few seconds, chill out.
Great advice. This game has like 4 or 5 logos, I wouldn't be surprised if you end up staring at them for an hour or more during a play through of the game. It's just a waste of time to leave them on.

Contact Hardening Shadows --> off
Volumetric lightning --> on (but not ultra)
MSAA turned off

Should be enough. Rest can be turned to maximum.

You're right, someone else let me know about that and I can confirm that thankfully you don't have to keep it held down. For some reason the first couple times I tried the "hold, then let go" method the body kept dropping. I don't know if I was just running into a bug or what.

Ugh, buggy game. First it crashes in the
bombing
part, not saving the game. Then I pass the scene but right after the game freezes and keeps running at 1-2 fps until it fucks up my system entirely.
