Ni No Kuni II to be more adult-focused, biggest team at Level-5 working on it

Get rid of the animal husbandry and just make the battles a more traditional RPG and I'm 100% in. I don't need to catch stupid looking monsters outside of Pokemon ... and I don't even like Pokemon much. But man, them graphics !
That and partner AI that doesn't absolutely suck.

The first game was really good but it lacked the serious tone... they said years ago during an interview that if they made a another one they would like to make it more serious.

Happy to hear that they kept their word :)
Wait why is level 5 working on yoru no nai kuni 2?
You read the title and the tread and saw the picture?

More adult-focused? So you're getting rid of the cat boy or?
So generally how Level-5 handles games is they try to make a protagonist who reflects their audience.

You will notice in the trailer that a lot of the scenes seemed to be from the perspective of the father character even though it's a story about the boy, because the first game ended up selling predominantly overseas to older audiences unlike most of their games which sell primarily to young Japanese boys.

Presumably that was the original target of NNK1 as well, so they're making some tweaks to better fit the audience they found while maintaining the feel the first game was going for.

It would be so good Roland and Evan were the main/playable characters in this game. Having a man and a little boy as the main focus would give people of different ages something to look forward to.

Yeah, I think that's the ultimate idea.

I imagine they envision some parents playing through the game with their children in Japan as well since I don't think many younger children would have easy PS4 access there, similar to how they would watch Ghibli movies together.

Yeah, I think that's the idea.

I really hope so if that's what they meant by making it more adult-oriented.

Still, the Ghilbi films most people know of star just a little boy/girl. If they're trying to mimic that once again then it probably won't feature Roland.

Oh sorry, I just noticed you said Roland as playable.

I'm kind of assuming he will just be present throughout, but not necessarily playable.

That is really interesting. Thanks for the info. 😄

I don't mind the monster collecting to be honest. It's the AI controlled party members and the half-baked compromise between real time and turn-based that I have a problem with.

I loved the first game despite its flaws, and having the series nature a little is very exciting for me. The world in Ni No Kuni was so well thought out and imaginative that I'm glad that we're getting a different kind of story in it.

Don't want them changing the battle system just improve it. Not interested in a turn based ni no kuni.

Same i loved the combat system in NnK1
It felt like the natural progression for turn based jrpgs.

Its pretty much how id want a console pokemon to play as.

Also i hope we get a cool collectors edition with the Wizards Companion 2.0

I missed out on the original and now they cost a bomb :(

Main thing I had a problem with was the shit Ai and the over reliance(although by my own choice) on one spell lol

Lol that edition is going for like $300 now don't feel bad I never got it either

I was fine with the battle system in the first game, i wouldnt mind if they made it straight up turn based though. That way you are in complete control of all characters rather than hoping the A.I. does what you want.

Exactly my thoughts. I think pure turn-based feels really antique.
This is the perfect system where you have to use tactics but still have the pressure of a real-time fight.

ITT: People who claim they loved the first game, but want another battle-system and want to get rid of the monsters.

I loved the game but most boss fights came down to me as Oliver because my familiars and party members were dead/worthless. If they want to keep that same general battle system then they need to allow AI customization on the same level as Final Fantasy XII's gambits. If they can't do that then it's probably best to go with the battle system that the DS version of Ni no Kuni had, which was turn-based.

Man, I cannot wait for NNK2.

Hopefully we get something at PSX.

And yeah, the battle system has to be changed. It was bad.

"More adult focused" piqued my interest, but I guess I'll pass if it is really going after the original's feel. The aesthetics and Oliver having the brain capacity of a 4 year old really put me off. I could have maybe dealt with one, but not both. It's sad because I was really into it as an RPG for the 10 or so hours I played. I just couldn't take it anymore.

The worst part about ni no kuni was the limbo it was stuck in between being for children or adults, not for both. The game was too cumbersome for children and I dropped it so many times because everything was pretty half assed. Hopefully they do make the story & gameplay more mature.
Also, hopefully its faster, combat was pretty slow outside boss fights and certain monsters.

Hino also answered questions about other Level-5 series and future titles, like Lady Layton, Inazuma Eleven Ares, and Megaton Mushashi. However, he did not mention when we would see Ni No Kuni 2 again. The game is not listed for an appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2016.

What does he say about Fantasy Life 2 in the interview?

Hearing the criticisms of the first Ni No Kuni really turned me off, I just hope for a Dark Cloud 2 situation where everything wrong with the game was fixed and turned up to eleven for the sequel.

Really hope Joe Hisaishi returns for this one to compose, if its not already confirmed. The first game is one of the most meaningful to me.

So hyped, Ni No Kuni is the closest we'll get to a Pokémon full 3D rpg on console let alone PlayStation unless NX that is.

Never played the first one. Wonder what the chances are of a PS4 remaster while we wait for the sequel.
