Can I just say this?

Remember back during ps4 and xbone launch hearing that epic wanted 2.5 tflop machines so they could do what they were showing in there ureal 4 demos. And we were all talking on this site about how monstrous those specs would be, and gawking at the Samaritan and infiltrator demo. Well we are getting at minimum almost 2x what they were asking for. So we should in a way all be kind of pumped. 4.2-5 teraflops in a closed system is going to be pretty badass.

I can't wait till Wednesday

Just bear in mind that was going on five years ago since those demos came out. But yeah, it's incredibly exciting.

This is what I was talking about before. Higher spec consoles push developers to use graphics technologies PC's can already push (but never used because consoles can't).

I want Neo and Scorpio to be as powerful as possibly can be. As said before consoles hold EVERY gaming platform back.

Now we have higher spec consoles coming devs will push new things such as lighting systems etc instead of targeting 4K. Devs have also spoke out and said even with Scorpio they won't be trying to get 4K native.

Resolution and frame rate are great and all but a big visual upgrade that I'm looking forward is to HDR supported games on Neo.

Digital Foundry graphical comparisons are going to get more complex.

Do we know whether or not Neo mode being only one mode? Is it possible for a developer to have a multiple? Example: 4K mode, 1080P mode with upped graphics, and 1080P mode with upped frame rate?

Also going to be interesting to see how Second Son runs on the Neo since it has a unlocked frame rate option.

That sounds very complicated to enforce. As far as we know there is only a single NEO mode and a base mode, but your saying multiple configurations and graphics settings based on what resolution you set your game at?

I think that goes a bridge too far. PS3 allowed certain games to run differently depending on what resolution setting you had the game at(FFX Remaster runs at 720p FXAA locked 30fps if you have the resolution of the console set to 720p, it runs at 1080p no AA with fps drops if you have it set to 1080p.

KH 1.5 collection runs at 720p 4xMSAA with the 720p setting, 1440x840 with no AA in the 1080p setting ect.

But i dunno if its worth it at this point when it seems like PC settings worth of optimization that consoles generally avoid.

We're getting a GPU that at minimum beats what Infiltrator and Agni's philosophy first ran on. (IIRC, the 680 actually runs Agni at 1080p and 8xMSAA+FXAA combo.

Just thinking about that is very interesting. So they can keep the GPU how it is IMO and make their effort into bumping up the CPU and memory bandwidth.

Infiltrator came out 2 years ago, Agni in 2012,and Samaritan in 2011, but the tech involved is no less impressive today

I wish I could share your enthusiasm, without the CPU to match that GPU prowess, I'll wait for them to prove my strong skepticism wrong.

60 frames per second is the single most important part of a videogame's technical side for me, which drove me out of console gaming during last gen entirely. I'm really hoping that Neo will focus on 60FPS rather than 4K or pretty graphics, but unfortunately due to a combination of dev/marketing priorities and lack of CPU grunt I doubt that'll be the case.

PS VR was my shining ray of hope due to the mandatory 60 FPS, so we'll see what the future brings.

Man, I really miss every single game being 60 by default on consoles back during the NES/SNES/MD eras...

3rd party games/games that typically show up on pc will not change due to the baseline still being ps4/xbox one. All Neo and Scorpio are going to get from those games are the improvements we see on PC from the extra power.

This is actually one of the main reasons why I don't want Forward compatibility to be a thing when PS5 launches. (backwards compatibility should still be a thing though).

Yeah, I feel like folks are sleeping on the rumored spec because we know about Scorpio. 4.2TF in a console should produce some special results when aiming for 1080p.

Times change. What your referring to was a time back when 3Dgraphics didn't exist. As soon as developers realized they could push polygon counts for better visuals and more complicated world design on limited hardware, that mindset flew out the window.

Dreamcast and PS2's adherence to 60fps were also just exceptions to the rule, and had far more 30fps games than people actually remember.

I'd recommend sticking with a PC at this point, if that's what your wanting

The Neo could have a Titan X and an intel i7-4790K built into it and developers would still push the best graphics at 30 fps.

You can get 150 at Amazon today and they pay to ship it and you have 7 days to ship so you can wait til after the conference and decide. Lock in a price now with them.

Isn't gamestop offering like 120?

There is like no chance Neo is coming out this coming week, could be a month, two, six. Could be a long time without a console.

180 with 25% extra towards a pre order you can easily cancel, so 225.

Now with PS+ baked in thats like a free $100 each yes and not to mention the extra teradrip bump since the last leak this is shaping up to be better, more uncompressed pixels than Scorpios rumored 6 gigasquix minus emotion engine and BC GPUGPUPU emulation.

EDIT: toslink out or i'm out.

Yep. The difference is obvious when you see 60 on PC compared to consoles.

gameplay definitely runs at 60 on consoles. the cutscenes (close-ups at the free throw line, cuts after a made basket) run at 30 for whatever reason

lol @ dumbasses saying PS+ will be baked in.

You're supposed to marinate the Neo in PS+ for 2 and a half hours, then bread it with a higher CPU clock speed, and THEN you can fry it in about 5 tflops of oil for about 5 to 7 months.

Fowards compatibility won't be a thing I reckon. Sony has already stated this is not the end of traditional generations.

In regards to the first paragraph devs will utilise newer graphics technologies. I'm 100% certain they will. The leaked document even speaks of 1080p Neo mode games having better graphics obviously.

Neo mode also only has to have the same base res and FPS compared to the OG.

Whatever the devs use the extra GPU power on is up to them. Devs will push better lighting, textures, models etc and I reckon PC users will reap the benefits too. I forsee a bigger jumps between low, medium, high and ultra settings on PC.

As I spoke of before, more powerful consoles always give devs the incentive to push newer graphics systems on the higher spec consoles as well as PC. I can see this happening as well with Neo and Scorpio because devs will want to push sales on those platforms too.

Simply put if people don't see the difference between Neo mode and Base mode people will not buy them. The Neo and Scorpio consoles will fail and devs will lose money or have substantially lower profits.

Simply creating Neo mode games with the PC'S ultra or high preset will not attract customers because there is hardly a difference as it is. A few more patches of grass and a bit better draw distance with higher quality shadows... it will not be enough.

For Inuhanyou.

This slide makes me think we will intact get separate Neo modes based on which tv you have. With 1080p tv owners getting better graphical tech with the power saved by not pushing a native res closer to 4K.

For the more technically challenged among us, assuming the leaked specs are at least ballpark true, would the jump from the PS4 to the Neo be as profound as say, 360 to One or PS3 to PS4? Roughly?

Here are my predictions for the PS meeting:

•We start with a PS Montage as usual with upcoming PS4 and PSVR titles, awesome as usual OR/& we will get a live RDR demo to start with a bang.

•Andrew comes on board and announces PS Slim, available the same day/week for 249$-299$ with a similar cost OG PS4 price cut.

•Then we get NEO announcement with official name (maybe he would give us a leak joke somewhere), Not sure but I hope he will call Cerny to stage.

•NEO looks like 2 slims with a PS2 resemblance, people like it and get even more hyped.

•If Cerny is on stage we get a great hot tub spec show, people will be applauding him.

•A minute talk about easing people into new iterative console generations, 4K, UHD, options to the consumers and maybe HDR.

•Leaked presentation specs confirmed @4.2TF.

•After/Instead Cerny we will get the first NEO demos, People will be at awe.

•I expect at least one major first party title in upscaled 4K.

•At least one example for smooth 1080p/60fps with NEO patch (Bloodborne I hope).

•God of war, FFXV, Horizon Demos! People go nuts!

•More game demos, Uncharted 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

•The Last guardian will show for sure, last stand before October launch.

•If we are REALLY lucky maybe Spider-Man PS4 show or Suckers Punch's new game reveal.

•We get a slew of PSVR NEO enhanced games according to Osiris leak: Robinson, Eve, and GT Sport.

•Last MASSIVE PSVR push expected with titles like RE7 and Driveclub.

•Deep Down surprise next, full retail game (Not F2P anymore). Looks close to original trailer.

•All the crowd is hyped, just want a release date and price for the NEO.

•Andrew comes back on stage, gives us a 399$ price and October/November launch.

•Closing the show with a big punch like RDR (if it wasn't at the start) OR FFVII Remake OR something else BIG.

•THE FUCKING END!

•HYPE!

Deep Down shows back up and looks close to the target render and better in someplaces

A fact that I find very, very sad. But a fact nonetheless.

I just wish every dev out there pulled a NiOh and gave you 30fps grafix mode and 60fps performance mode (except with, you know, actually locked 60fps, though then again NiOh ain't finished yet). I'd have no need for a PC then. Even as a tech-savvy computer engineer I find the PC frustrating many times, but I seriously can't live without locked 60.

Not that far. One of the biggest junps was from 512mb RAM to 8GB. Neo is still at 8gb and the CPU is rumored to be only slightly faster.

Just noticed the Foxconn leaker updated the OP of their thread yesterday with the model numbers for Neo: CUH-7016A and CUH-7016B. I probably just missed it.

This is not a generational upgrade as we've come to know them, no. But then, its not intended to be

This is a marginal upgrade in the grand scheme of things. a PS4.2 or 3.

30% stronger CPU and 30% faster memory bandwidth. double the GPU power.

PS3 to PS4 GPU wise was about 7 or 8x. CPU wise was about 200 to 250%. RAM was 16x in amount and 8x in memory bandwidth.

To be fair, we won't see that jump in memory bandwidth or RAM size from PS4 to PS5 anyway(i expect 16 to 24 GB GDDR6 or HBM+)

Correct.

16x RAM = bigger and richer game worlds

The difference between Uncharted 2-3 (linear corridors) and Uncharted 4 (semi-open) is staggering.

There's nothing like that this time around. Even if the new consoles have 12-16GB of RAM, games will still be made with PS4/XB1 8GB pool in mind.
