Oh man... I can easily see Microsoft besting Sony this holiday season in sales.
O man don't do this too yourselves guys

Before the presentation, i was sure of buying the new PS4 but that presentation actually made me reconsider. It was uninspired and it felt as if Sony didn't believe in the product themselves. No specs, no actual game demonstrations and it feels as if they got very little support from developers on this one. It's crazy how Sony is going to ruin the advantage and goodwill they managed to built with PS4.

Hail to the KING baby
Definitely want to strongly encourage people who clearly don't follow movie releases or care about IQ to keep posting about 'physical media' and how unimportant it is.

Did they mention if the games are native 4k? Surely they're not, my gpu cost almost double a ps4 pro and can hardly do it.

probably depends on if the game is just doing standard ps4 settings at 4k (Cerny mentioned For honor having the same normal textures as PS4 but it was running at 4k, least I think he said 4k? When they went to Unchatrted 4 I believe he also said "higher resolution" instead of 4k, so obviously not even all first party games will hit it.

Does this even matter? Who buys physical movies in 2016? I don't know a single person who does

Me, with my 300 bluray's and my 120 inch grandview screen and sony projector. Watching streaming content is fine but please don't compare a streamed movie to a native bluray in regards to quality.

Seriously, the Xbox one s being the only viable option for 4K bluray is hilarious, what a fuck up by Sony. I understand the need to keep the Bom down but this is plain stupid.

When a 4K drive didn't appear in the slim I assumed they were keeping it for the pro, should have guessed they weren't when they started talking 4K Netflix. Just the Scorpio on the horizon for me now, will skip ps4 completely.

Are you an expert in losing goodwill?

Wow, that's very strange that the PS4 Pro won't support UHD Blu-ray discs.

But, just so I have this straight ... all those people here who insisted on going "digital-only" for generation 8 were all planning on buying physical UHD Blu-ray discs? So this is a deal-breaker now?

This is the laziest thing Sony has done in a while.

The design looks like 2 Ps4s stacked on top of each other and its supposed to be a 4k console yet cant even play 4k Blu-rays.

The price is nice but I think all around they dropped the ball.

Pro-tip: How to make RedRedSuit want to buy it:

1. Pick a very good-looking 30fps game (e.g., Uncharted 4).
2. Show it running at 60fps and otherwise unchanged on PS4 Pro.

Anything else... any talk of 4K... etc... pointless for me.

Same boat. I have no intention of buying a 4K TV until next gen of consoles at the earliest. Give me performance upgrades on the existing library of 1st party games at least. I want to want to buy this goddamn thing.

Welcome to what everybody has been saying for MONTHS. The first part anyway.

The second part is pure bullshit. There's no way you'll be able to buy a 4k TV and a 4k capable gaming PC for the same price. You would need to downgrade to a small monitor, but then why the hell would you even do that when 4k content is kind of the whole point.

I'm not sure why anybody on Gaf was surprised. But, Gaf gonna Gaf I guess..

Yeah, but you are delusional if you think PS4 Pro is gonna hit NATIVE 4k rendering. Let alone at a 100% stable framerate. (Or 60FPS).
The only way it will hit near 4k native is with trickery bullshit under the hood like the temporal upsampling used in some games.

PS4 Pro is much better for 1080p than 4k.

I'm not sure what to think. Props to PlayStation for coming in at that price, but it's clear some things have had to give. I'm surprised it carries the same workmanlike industrial design and materials as its Slim cousin, and the (supposed) lack of an Ultra HD blu ray drive is probably due to similar reasons.

I don't think Scorpio will be much of a threat to this device though, Sony's (correct) focus on getting forwards-compatible patches out as soon as possible, and encouraging them for even older games (like Black Ops 3) is a great move, and adds value to the system before it's even launched. They've also been using the word "4K" a lot in marketing, despite the system not rendering in native 4K.

Even if Scorpio did render in native 4K, to the average PS4 owner or buyer, the difference between "4K" and "native 4K" will be mostly meaningless. So Sony should at least be able to keep as many players in the PS4 ecosystem as possible.

Of course, it depends on how portable PS4 software is leading up to the PS5. If Sony has to start again due to a CPU architecture switch then Microsoft may well have the lead, assuming forwards compatibility is a given for all Xbox One games and nothing gets broken going forwards since the One's launch in 2013.

Tough looking design, it looks badass.

It was tough to sell how much of an improvement it's going to be, and it showed. I'm not sure they made the case, especially since they waited until the end to mention that the PS4 will also support HDR.

so if this ps4 pro use the same cpu, they can boost original ps4 cpu like they did with psp right ?

I didn't like the presentation, but they hardly did that. There is still a cheaper option available at a good price and the pro pricepoint is good as well. It wasn't a good event, but they did little to ruin any goodwill now.

I'm negative on the whole 4K thing but damn if the price/availability doesn't make this much more attractive than I initially thought.

That was frustrating cuz i still dont know what to do. I am in the market for a new ps4 as I just moved out. I have a 1080p tv with no plans to get 4k any time soon.

What do I lose by saving $100 and going with the slim?

They wouldn't even definitively say frame rate will be better on Pro.

I'm having deja vu to when Sony unveiled the PS3. I didn't think I would ever feel that way about Sony again, and yet, here we are.

At least a bunch of folks will jump onto the PS4 bandwagon at the $299 entry point. So there's that, at least.

I wish I could hat you to death
4k movies are 100 GB +

You honestly don't see why some people still buy physical copies?

No UHD Blu ray is kind of bad.

Fake 4k content in every respect now. I'll wait for the model with 4k blu ray.

But what this really lacked was specs on Ps 4 pro. Wonder when they even gonna release the specs.
