They probably do realize it. But then there's the union.

Repurpose them to do something useful. Like helping tourists and old people.

They're already getting rid of other employees anyways with the single driver trains now so it's not like it can't be done.

Anyways I was commenting on the experience of paying fares and the insane lineups that always happen at every downtown station because TTC hires the slowest and most anti-customer employees I've ever seen.

Yea, London doesn't have fare collectors but they still have at least one person watching things, and they have people on the platforms too (maybe this is just to help tourists know which train is coming into the station?)

There is only one fare collector anyway. He/she could be easily retrained to look after the machines and to assist people who have questions. The job would be the same, except they now don't need to watch the box to make sure people put in the right amount.

They don't even give out a transfer, so you already have to interact with a machine.

On top of that, you interact with a machine to buy tokens, which you use to pay a person who lets you through the gate.

You know how they can fix that?

By cutting funding to the TTC :D

In their defense, they're treated like shit, but I don't have a lot of sympathy for them since it's their job to deal with the public in a friendly manner even if customers can be downright asses.

Glad tory had to suffer like the rest of us
Someone posted on Reddit he was standing next to him today. It was pretty funny. A lot of emergency alarms and it seems some were due to people fainting and another due to one due being an ass...could've been due to the heat and crowding.

As far as I'm concerned, he won't do shit. He'll still ask for cuts and agree it was bad and to find efficiencies elsewhere. Same bullshit I got from my meeting after a bunch got laid off.

But we need to buy from CANADIAN companies to provide jobs to CANADA. And are you telling me people in Scarborough don't DESERVE a subway?!

To be fair, the broken AC units weren't a big issue in past years; I can't even remember a time beyond this summer where so many of them were failing. Still, it was brought up quickly that this was an issue and our glorious fucking mayor (fuck you all, I voted Chow) believes it isn't an issue and that we should reduce funding. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though since enough people in the GTA voted for fucking Ford as mayor.

Nordstrom at Eaton Centre has a bar? Really?

Yup, and guess who was dealing directly with them to put together stock orders?

I've never seen such a ridiculous order form in my life. And then they sent another. And then a partial cancellation and then a rush order that included items from the cancellation. I mean products ran the gamut but it included all the crazy top end "designer" alcohol imaginable. It wasn't even a big order in terms of quantity but easily the biggest in terms of price. I've never seen someone purchase so much Louis XIII...

They're doing the same for the Yorkdale location, too.

edit -

Yea, London doesn't have fare collectors but they still have at least one person watching things, and they have people on the platforms too (maybe this is just to help tourists know which train is coming into the station?)

This is one of the things that impressed me about Tokyo. The subways were super efficient, had tons of automation, but also had a lot of visible employees. There were people conducting traffic, basically, on platforms during peak hours, helping crowds move in and out of trains and keep everything moving smoothly. And of course there were still customer service kiosks and such (incredibly helpful at this one location that had two separate entrances for opposite sides of the tracks and no way to cross over in the station itself, which caused my passmo card to malfunction when I attempted to leave and cross the street and go back in via the other entrance).

I loved everything about the subway in Tokyo.

(No comment on the TTC shenanigans today. I managed to avoid the worst of it and just don't have any more energy to expend hating on it.)

Hey y'all, I plan to take the train up from Windsor to visit your city soon. Few questions

1. Anyone take these trains before? There's a cheap $50 option, but i am worried it will be uncomfortable. Next option up is $100 though, so not great.

2. Are there any sub- $100/night places that aren't shitholes?

3. Suggestions on gay bars/clubs to visit?

Thanks in advance!

1. Trains are miles better than any bus.

2. There's places a little north of that, which are not garbage. It all depends on area.

3. I'm sure you know that Wellesley/Church is the gay hub of the city. Check the free Now 'zine to see if any parties are going 'round while you're here. The only gay bar I know is Zippers at Wellesley/Carlton. There's also a strip joint called Remingtons between Gerrard and Dundas on Yonge.

Zippers is gone. They used to be one of our biggest clients, too.

The only other clients we have in the area are Church on Church and Crews and Tangos, which are probably the two most prominent drag bars in the city. There are a lot of options though so honestly I'd recommend just walking down Church (between Wellesley and Carlton) and seeing what grabs your attention. It's a pretty busy street and a lot of the venues have large open facades, so you can walk by and see what's going on (music acts, dancing, whatever). You've also got Euro pubs like O'Grady's and the Hairy Dog stuck in there. The only place I'd say to avoid: the Churchmouse (because the Firkin franchise is a plague upon the city.)

Zippers is gone? I swear to God I walked past it not too long ago. Shame, it was an institution.
I forgot to check if Fab! was still a thing, but now it's rebranded as Xtra? That's the gay focused zine, if you solely want that focus.

This would have been nice to know in the one meetup where went to a Firkin pub.

Next GAF meetup at Boston Pizza!

I'm still bummed that it is to become the tenant in the vacant space near Empress Walk. I was so excited last year when I was it was a 3 Brewers sign ( I guess they couldn't close the deal)

Got discharged

Feel better and more clearer thoughts

But one thing is still the same

I hate hot weather

<3

Glad to see you're doing better!

Currently sitting in my car waiting for my interview. Getting nervous, but working on calming my nerves. Already had a phone interview for that part time position I talked about this morning. I don't think I did too badly but it could have gone better. Or I'm just really critical of myself.

I'm sure community centres might offer them. My mom went to take a Japanese class at a community centre when she got bored a number of years ago.

Maybe 3 Brewers can go where Boston Pizza used to be? Or is that BP still there

So apparently, celebs in town for TIFF took the TTC and got the hot subway trains.

Not sure why they'd be taking it but still...WORLD CLASS SERVICE!

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
What celebrity would take transit, regardless of the city? Those people should be taking private cars.
Plenty of celebs take the subway when they go to NYC because it's much faster than taking a car because of traffic. That's not as big a problem in Toronto though and taking the TTC is just stupid.

In a world class city, that'd make sense. Not in Toronto though.

I just secured a new apartment. I can finally get my own internet. Is TekSavvy still considered the bomb diggity dot com? I already have a modem supported by TS -- I bought it for my current apartment but my LL was very resolute about us just using his internet that was included in the lease.
