I think it's worth pointing out that TPC launched Pokémon Black and White Versions on March 6, 2011, in North America, not three weeks before the North American launch of the Nintendo 3DS. Moves like this should illustrate the fact that Nintendo and Pokemon make their announcements / releases (mostly) independent of each other. I mean, Pokemon is going to be getting weekly-ish updates until November 22nd at this rate, and I doubt the announcement of the NX reveal is happening after that.

That's not the same as announcing things on the same day at the same time. Nintendo isn't gonna want to distract from Pokemon news like that unless they really want to get in before TGS and don't have any other options.

I never really questioned Nintendo looking and using an ARM-based chip. My question is why Nvidia's?

Better question: who else would they go with? The only other good option for a hybrid might be that DMP chip, but only if they want BC. Beyond that, Nvidia is the best option unless they just want to go cheap and only care about having a 3DS successor.

If this was about 7 years ago, I would have said TI (Nintendo has a big, rather historic love affair with TI chips) but they got out of the ARM-chip business just as it heated up. I honestly don't know how far along AMD is with their ARM-production to say anything and they don't seem fouced on mobile but given Nintendo prior relationship with the company, its a rather good educated guess. Qualcomm is out because of price, Same can be said for Samsung, Apple is also a non-started for the simple fact that they are singularly focused on internal production, but even with that said the ARM market has quite a few small companies that sell chips (Apple themselves just up and bought on at some point).

Out of all of those.... Nvidia?
And keep in mind, that doesn't include the fact that for a portable form factor, Nvidia has one of the worse chips on the market for reasons that I stated earlier.

I still adamantly believe their rumored Diddy Kong Racing game was just moved to the NX.

But they were working on a racing game. It was just NASCAR for other systems.

Good to see Federation Force didn't kill them.
I wonder if they are going to continue working with Nintendo tho.
Of course It didn't kill them, they were contracted :p
Even if federation force had sold zero copies, they would have still gotten paid and Nintendo takes the loss. At most, they'll lose out on some bonuses

Whoa, what happened here?

Well, in case anyone else is wondering, there are certainly better choices than Nvidia for a mobile-focused device. However, for a hybrid the story changes a bit. Nintendo would likely want to use an architecture closer to what the other consoles use, and may want the fastest chip they can get. Nvidia is a good choice in both of those cases. AMD could have maybe made a chip, but they're so far behind Nvidia in efficiency and in keeping heat dissipation in check that it would mean around half the performance we'd get with Nvidia. Adreno is 100% mobile focused and not a good fit. Samsung might not even agree to a custom chip. PowerVR is okay, but it would still be weaker and quite a bit different than what current consoles have. GCN and Pascal have fairly similar structures all things considered and mostly differ in how they do things and in certain strengths and weaknesses. That's not to say that they aren't different, but since they share the same purpose and can be used interchangeably on PC, along with pretty similar approaches to ALUs, clusters, and compute, they're probably the closet you can get from two different vendors.

Because NVidia has some of the best mobile GPUs in the business and a fantastic software ecosystem and network of developer/engine support. (One which all other mobile-first GPU vendors can only dream of)

If Metroid is dead it isn't because of NLG, but because of Nintendo.

Lol at people blaming NLG for Metroid Federation failure.

So the reviewers clearly mentioning level design and balance as the major fault don't exist?

I still adamantly believe their rumored Diddy Kong Racing game was just moved to the NX.

That rumor was a stretch on its own. It basically hypothesized that Excite Bots might have been a Diddy Kong Racing prototype back in 2007. Everything after was fanboy dream fiction.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Using UE4's Material System.
Ah. I was referring to the fact that that 'Unreal proficiency' bullet point may hypothetically be in relation to NLG's shipping engine similarities with the UE4 material system, which NLG may or may not use on their development PCs. When a dev has a license they can afford to mix and match whatever engine components they feel suitable to their needs.

I never really questioned Nintendo looking and using an ARM-based chip. My question is why Nvidia's?
A new Tegra would really be a top-of-the-stack choice for a hybrid.

I dont think Nintendo gonna announce anything this week with some of the main staff on vacations. Mainly Kit and his partna. Forgot her name.
Surely Kit and Krysta being on vacation wouldn't impede Nintendo announcing when NX will be revealed.

Reminder, NLG is not a nintendo only developer they have made multiplatform games, notably, marvel movie tie in games.

Sure it will they gotta be preparing not on vacations. There would be so much information to gather in that time frame.

They're actually PR manager/social media manager for NOA. Their primary job isn't just doing the youtube videos.
I know. I wasn't thinking of any grand announcement with a video or Twitter campaign. I was thinking of a simple press release like this: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2011/110425_4e.pdf

That should be possible with Kit and Krysta still being on vacation. I believe they will return around the 20th of September.

I didnt say anything about youtube videos.. where the hell did you get that from?

And Rosti, I think they will announce and reveal NX in the same week. Even if its just PR I think they gotta be there for that.

Nintendo wouldn't just drop an NX reveal with absolutely no warning at a GameStop expo.
Reveal no... but I assume they'll receive some tidbits regarding an announcement. Gamestop needs to carry the systeem in about six months so...

what the what?

Before we lose our minds, isn't the Gamestop Conference intended to be a discussion to their retail staff about what they can expect to sell in the upcoming holiday season?

So in this sense it's unlikely that any Nintendo discussion will encompass NX details, instead they would favor Pokémon, 3DS sales strategy and other upcoming titles (shown in the 3DS direct). NX would only be an anecdote that would be a "expected to release in calendar Q1; more details to be shared later". All Gamestop employees really need to know is when they get to take pre-orders from customers - everything else is just need-to-know.

So I expect this is a person who's just excited to be part of a Nintendo read-out, less about NX.

True. That said, SOME info could be shared. Remember--Gamestop expo/meeting is where we found out about PS Neo.

Nintendo will show some Amiibos, their upcoming 3DS and Wii U Games and the NES Mini.
What did Nintendo show on the last Gamestop Expos?

Does Kevin Pereira ever do this type of teasing or trolling? Maybe it's something surprising or exciting that won't be NX, like Miyamoto making another stop on his US tour...

This ride has to end sometime
