Which is exactly why this thing is a hard sell if you don't have it on a 4K screen in front of you.Everything seems like such a miniscule difference that I cannot understand what the need for this new machine is. Especially that Ps4Pro/XBO video comparison has me scratching my head. *shrugs*

Looks really good for a cheap budget machine. I'd be more than happy with that from a console.
Definitely true, 4k is a truly wasted endeavor to consoles at this point. It's messy and off looking but I still maintain that it's a strong effort given the hardware limitations.
Those resources would be far better spent giving 1080p all the bells and whistles though.
Even in the HQ source footage, the cutscenes on PS4 Pro do look a bit blurry. The actual gameplay looks very sharp though. The PS4 Pro footage looks mucky. 4K Youtube is capable of better.
I found the same footage on the official Tomb Raider Youtube, and made a slideshow to A/B between some of the biggest quality differences between the two encodes.
https://youtu.be/A11sj0EiEzs
Again, this is a comparison between two Youtube uploads. It's only 1080p, but because they're stills, they look virtually identical to their sources.
Is this real?the ps4 version is much more temporally stable despite having half the number of pixels. i think i actually prefer it over the pc version. the shimmering in the pc version is egregious. makes a much bigger difference to the end visual result in motion IMO
Judging by the video the pro mode looks underwhelming to me.I played this earlier this year on my brother's x1 and thought it looked great.Regular ps4 owners are in for a extremely good looking game, but those pro comparisons are a bit depressing.I expected better to be honest.
And what about the OG XB1 owners? Leave em in the dust cuz fuck em right? That'll go just swell since they're not marketing Scorpio as the next xbox...yet. Now if they would've come out and straight up announced Scorpio as THE next XB, then I'd definitely agree with you. Go all out or bust for the next system.Lol how sad, hopefully it's got some room for improvement before launch.
At this point I think MS really needs to take a hard look at Scorpio's 6TF goal and probably go beyond it to ensure 4K w decent assets. They need that machine to separate itself as much as possible from being perceived as even somewhat similar in power to PS4P.
That's what the PS4 Professional is thought of? A "cheap budget machine"? Dang!
This looks really Damn good for a 399 console. Any one expecting this to look like the PC version running with high end hardware that costs double or triple the PS4 Pro - is being ridiculous.

O worrrd? Is more the futility of even trying.
Let's remember that Sony said they were competing against PC with the Pro.

Ah ok.It will be interesting to see the other modes and how they differ.Tomb Raider PS4 Pro enhancements include 3 different modes. 1080p and 30fps with graphical settings cranked up to very high. Then there's 1080p and 45fps to possibly 60fps, graphical settings are unknown. And the last is what you see in the video; Which by the way looks quite good according to John and Richard from Digital Foundry.
O worrrd?
I thought House mentioned something about preventing the OG PS players from jumping to PC instead i.e. not competing directly with PC?

Tell me how video game development works when you want to support a 1.3TF system(XB1) as well as a 7TF+ system(XBScorpio bumped specs) simultaneously on same software with finite resources, and time. Major sacrifices have to be made, no?Um. What.
How exactly does bumping up the specs past 6TF alienate X1 owners? Scorpio is gonna have all it can handle trying to run native 4K games at solid framerates, MS would be smart to get the specs as high as possible within their price range limit for the system, even it means taking a loss upfront.
Competing directly with PC would be Sony trying to sway PC gamers to PS4 Pro. Which is something they currently give zero fucks about last I read as far as PS4 Pro is concerned.Wouldn't you define that as...competing?

Yeah another forum member pointed that out to me just now.You do realize, there is more than one 'pro mode' correct?

But is hardly noticeable from the couch. Only a little bit of smudge in the glasses.

Pretty much how I see it yeah.Yeah...um...I'm no expert, but why couldn't MS make the Scorpio as strong as possible (while keeping price reasonable) and still support the OG XB1?
I mean, make the Scorpio upside down and backwards compatible with OG XB1 games + 360 BC list, then when new games are developed, make them playable on OG XB1 but give the Scorpio users the option to crank-up the settings.
Would that be so difficult to do? Isn't that basically what developers are already doing for PC? TBH... I think MS is going to bail in the "No Scorpio exclusive games" within the first year.
Ah ok.It will be interesting to see the other modes and how they differ.
If PC and xbone can exist side by side, so can Scorpio and xb1.And what about the OG XB1 owners? Leave em in the dust cuz fuck em right? woah, what the fuck? Why is it so blurry on the digital foundry video? I knew something didn't look right.
Which is exactly why this thing is a hard sell if you don't have it on a 4K screen in front of you.
Checkerboarding is using 2x 1080p, just over 4.1 million pixels and the rest of the pixels are approximated with detail up to 4k. It's a higher resolution than 1440p....1440p is only 3.6 million pixels in comparison. That isn't what it is doing. It is likely rendering higher than 1080p. Perhaps 1440p, maybe less or more before scaling to 4K. Even then, it is likely using the "checkerboard" technique, which doesn't really relate in the same way, so there might be some variation in the acutal amount being rendered to construct the frame output. The Xbox One S literally upscales to 4K, and obviously has a very minimal bump in GPU power

Yeah
It should be about 2880x1620
The game is not done, has it shipped? It's still in development on the PS4/PS4.Pro.So what do you call this? Subnative 4K?
It's not awful but the image seems very blurred compared to the more crisp PC.
Especially in moving scenes.
Also the background stuff missing changes the scene feeling quite a bit on the dramatic end of the scale.
Wonder if this changes.
Exactly, not only are DF videos blurrier, but even the original video from Square Enix is a compressed video, putting it on youtube compresses it and lowers the quality even further, yet people have no problem comparing video pics against high grade PC PNG's..... ...So disingenuous...The PS4 Pro footage looks mucky. 4K Youtube is capable of better.

They downgraded that part a little bit even compared to the xbox one version of the game.
this is what the xbo version looks like
I'm a MS fanboy so I shouldn't post in these sorts of threads, but I personally love this.
There must be some mistake.
