What are your favorite N64 games that aren't available on VC?

Mystical Ninja Staring Goemon

It's up there with Banjo Kazooie + Mario 64. Fantastic platformer that boasts some really varied gameplay mechanics.

and that IMPACT theme, ffs. Incredible

It's a shame that it's full of save glitches. At least here in the UK. I've tried playing through numerous copies of the game and it always seems to corrupt my save states.

This ignored masterpiece not only is it the one correct answer to this question but also the absolute best Third Party game in the N64 library.

Besides Mystical Ninja I wish I had a chance of legally playing in modern consoles:
Mischief Makers
Diddy Kong Racing (screw the bastardized DS "port")

Goldeneye is obvious, World Driver Championship and Fighters Destiny are a bit outdated but still good games.

If you like sports game the ISS series was great.

Is it true that Microsoft offered the entire back catalog of Rare games to Nintendo in exchange for the release of Goldeneye on Xbox 360?

I would like a VC copy of the N64 castlevania games.

From posts and articles I've read, I get the impression that Paradigm used some non-standard hacks/tricks to pull off some of the things in the game and they are hard to emulate, or at least easy to miss for emu authors.

Here is an excerpt from a recent RetroArch blog post talking about the glitching with the shadows in PW64:

Thank you very much for the information!

Mischief Makers is fantastic and a must-play. I don't think you'd really want to play it with anything but a N64 controller either.

Is that really their reason? Sounds more like an excuse. You don't need the original code in order to emulate the game. All they need is a rom. Unless there's controversial things that they need to change in the original game or something (or there's something I don't know about N64 emulation that makes it more complicated?.)

I don't have experience with it, but I've read several things that have said HM64 doesn't really work well with available emulators. I am not the most tech-savvy guy, but I remember the Harvest Moon 64 cartridge being a lot heavier than most games. I can only assume it had some extra chips or something for performance, and those things are why it doesn't run correctly.

Oh gee hmmmmmm let me think here...oh I know...the ONE DAMN GAME I'VE BEEN WANTING FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pilotwings_64_box.jpg

Does ANYONE have a legit reason why this wasn't on the Wii or Wii U (yet)?!?!?!?!

Maybe legal reasons? The Pilotwings stage in SSB4 had the SNES & 3DS islands but leaves out the obvious Little States.

Pilotwings 64
Mischief Makers
Mystical Ninja
Mystical Ninja 2
Hybrid Heaven
Rayman 2
Rocket Robot on Wheels
Doom 64
Space Station Silicon Valley
Beetle Adventure Racing!
World Driver Championship
Star Wars: Episode I - Racer
Shadow Man

Shadowgate 64
I wouldn't say it's great but it's a rare case of a pure adventure game on N64 and it's the final game in the series so it might be worth a playthrough.

Please tell me more about Rayman 2, Rocket and SSSV. I love Rayman games but I couldn't get into R3HD at all.

BTW, I love SW E1 Racer. I picked up the PS2 sequel on PSN but haven't tried it, hopefully it's similarly good.

Rayman 2: 3D platform game, more linear than Mario 64 or Banjo games but it's up there in quality.

Rocket: First sucker Punch platform game and a great one to boot. What set it apart from the rest of the 3D platform game of the era is the physics puzzles.
Camera is problematic but the whole game is still worth to be played.

SSSV: It's a 3D action puzzle game based on the concept of hijacking robotic animals all with different skills to achieve different goals.
It's a difficult game to categorize due to sheer originality.

Do you own a Dreamcast?

If you do, Rayman 2 is infinitely better there. It's locked at 60fps and is gorgeous.

Rayman 2 on the N64 is gorgeous as well, especially considering the system's hardware limitations but it's perfection on the Dreamcast.

Harvest Moon 64. Apparently Natsume tried and failed to get the game on the VC. It's a shame that Marvelous has ignored the game and not remade it or even tried to get it on VC themselves since I'd assume they'd have a better shot at getting it to work than Natsume.

One of my favorite games on N64.
Yeah. There is no reason that this and its amazing sequel shouldn't be available.

Come on Atlus/Nintendo, somebody make it happen, then we can start talking sequels.

Oh shit yeah, Snowboard Kids! Great games on the N64. Bring them back, Atlus, and not as kewl teens in a shitty handheld game.
Came here to say this. It was better than Mario Kart 64.

Also loved Wetrix though I think that came out on other systems.

Oh, I thought I was the only one. I have a third party Rumble pak/Memory pak but everytime I checked my saves were corrupt. Doesn't help that it was one of the very few games requiring an external memory card, and N64 didn't have a proper menu to see that.

So yeah, Mystical Ninja 1 and 2, too bad they're owned by

so no ports or sequels

Banjo Kazooie / Banjo Tooie (though you could play better looking HD versions on 360 and X1 now)
.

Yeah I've compared 360's HD Banjo Kazooie 1 to N64 version and they did a great job with HD version, It has a nice stable framerate, higher res and the draw distance was even improved which I didn't expect.

Definitely going to chime in on Doom 64. It's sooo good.

I also enjoyed Quake II, another unique campaign. And Wipeout 64, also not a port.

Turok was great at the time, too. It's sequels, not so much. I doubt anyone would want to deal with that 6 foot view distance now, though.

Oh also forgot to cite Forsaken 64, it's still a notable game because 6DOF action games aren't really an inflated genre.
It's very hard though!

Mortal Kombat 4

I was quite impressed with how well this turned out when put up against the arcade game. I played the shit out of this and would love to see this appear on VC one day. Good times!

Castlevania 64 and Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. I'm one of the five people on the planet that loved these games. The only 3D Castlevanias that really captured the spirit and atmosphere of the series.

I have been obsessed with finding these games lately! Legacy of Darkness is expensive for a complete copy!

Top Gear Overdrive, Bettle Adventure Racing and RUSH.

It makes me sad that this kind of game is pretty much dead. And no, Forza Horizon isn't even close to this.
