Kotaku Sources: Destiny 2 coming to PC [UPDATE: Loads of extra info]

Anoregon

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
11 days of playtime would you mind leaving that? Lol

Of course. I have no expectation of bringing a character from one game to a new, totally different game. The idea that we have to be able to bring our characters to the sequel immediately puts a limiter on class design for the expansion, and I think that is far more problematic than something people would almost certainly get over after playing the sequel for an hour or two.

I have over one year of /played time on a WoW character, and if WoW 2 came out as a new game that required you to make a new character I would have zero qualms whatsoever.

Hope in D2 they show us what's behind these gates.

Been driving me crazy for over 2 years now

That's where the NPCs live. But they never go home.

Sounds.. pretty amazing actually. The only things that are wrong with Destiny are the terrible story and lack of content and variation. Yes, those are a huge part of what makes a game, but the core (which is the hardest part for any game to nail) is incredible. So if they fix the rest, Destiny 2 should be really damn good, it could possible end up as my favorite game of all time.

One thing I hope they change is the naming of their weapons and armors. Ithica Type 2 and Ded Vianici 232 is baaaaaaaad.

If you put 11 days of play into D1, you will buy whatever Bungie puts out. Same with everyone worried about stuff not transferring over. It's why Bungie doesn't need to worry about it.

We're looking at around 1000+ people working on the game excluding contractors, who could plausibly be in the 200-300+ range themselves.

By comparison, the entirety of Fallout 4 was made by 108 people.

Alrighty then. Looking forward to seeing what they're working on.

Give me part prequel which has me learning the ropes of the classes and then becoming a Guardian, pre D1. They jumps to after all that happens and flesh out the Guardian role as they expand into the universe. Needs at least 5 classes and way more customisation. Just go full MMO and have a massive world to explore, as they first promised for D1.

This. If leaving behind the old game and characters helps lead to superior gameplay and mechanics in the new game, then it seems like a good trade-off.

If WoW's Legion expansion required new characters to be created, obviously we'd be upset. But if World of Warcraft 2 was announced and it featured a complete overhaul to the way the game plays, completely redoing the mechanics and the world design, then I don't see why anyone would be upset at the thought of starting from scratch with a new character.

Destiny 2 is a new game, not an expansion.
You just made my wallet, free-time, and relationships all cry out in pain.

I hope somethings carry over, like shaders, emblems, ships, sparrows.. things that doesn't really matter in the end, I don't want ANY of the equipment or weapons to carry over to shit the Year 1 of Crucible.
Year 1 was best time in Crucible when everyone was still testing around what was good and there was variety in playstyles, you could have fun there, then came Mythoclast and people realized there's always some weapon better than what you have and the "Flavour of the Month" weapon was born, and if you try to play against it, you're dead. Sure you can do good and have fun every now and then but mindless shotgun fests aren't that in long run.
It would be great if they gave special shaders to people that have gone through all raids etc., but we'll see. I'm also hoping they'll have some sort of account switch from PS4 to PC so if something carries over, I can get my achievements from PS4 profile that are linked to the Bungie account.
They have awesome tracking system for everything so it would be a shame if they don't use it to give players some incentive/rewards for Destiny 2.

So far this sounds like exactly what I wanted from the first game! I'm sold on the idea of a playable space that I don't need to leave every two seconds. I wonder how D2 will look on Scorpio/PS4 Pro.

I'm also curious as to whether Playstation will continue to have a marketing deal for D2. As someone who plays on Xbox One and has followed Bungie for years, it felt really weird to see Destiny 1 have a marketing/exclusive content deal with Playstation.

I don't get why people feel like they need a reward for playing Destiny 1. Your reward is the fact you got to play the awesome game that is Destiny 1 and now here is Destiny 2, have fun.

I do agree, but if they want to make sure lots of people jump to Destiny 2, there's always better chance if they give players incentive.
Wonder what will happen to Destiny 1 servers when 2 goes online?

You guys think we will get a PSX reveal trailer?

Too soon? E3 is all but guaranteed

Maybe we will get a tease

If Sony has another marketing partnership I could certainly see that happening. Maybe not a full trailer but at least a tease of some kind. As much as I love Playstation though, I want to see Xbox get the marketing deal for Destiny 2.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Look, I don't care about the loot or stats. Just let me keep my characters design and move that over. I put a lot of work into those faces and I really really like them.

Me and my friends have been chasing "the next Destiny" moving from game to game. The consensus is that the next Destiny is literally Destiny 2. So waiting for that.

Good, all of their lame ass social spaces should be nuked from orbit. Give us meanginful towns and outposts, like they seem to be planning for, or let us do everything from orbit.

What. Hub areas are my favorite part of this kind of game.

My problem with Destiny's is you can't communicate with people in them.

What difference would that make?

In a perfect world none would get that, cuz it always entails some type of arbitrary exclusivity of some sort.

IMO, they really need to change the loot system. The loot system has improved a lot since day 1, but it still sucks compared to say, Diablo. There's just not enough interesting weapon and armor variety, and the balancing for PVP makes PVE less fun.

I'd really like to see a class of weapon similar to Diablo "rares" that can end up with a long long list of potential attributes, some combos of which may be OP for PVE, but then PVP be balanced differently. I'd rather not be hoping for a good roll of a particular gun, but instead waiting for some random ass gun with a random name that delights and surprises with craziness.

Just imagine, instead of zoning in and out of the Tower and the Reef and the Dreadnought, there is a beachhead of Crows and Guardians in the Dreadnought itself. You zone into the beachhead, and it's a town. The quest givers are there. A forward operations Cryptarch. A bounty bot, a mail box. A heavily armored combat vault. No zoning out to go patrol. You walk outside the garrison into a no man's land patrolled by AI soldiers. Skirmishes break out between roving bands of friendly and dangerous AI. Public events with huge waves of bad guys assaulting the walls.

Real basic stuff in World of Warcraft, but it would be incredibly cool in Destiny. That's what I'm hoping for in the sequel. I like having different worlds to explore, but if each world was more fully featured instead of being essentially a dungeon that would be great.

Something like the Tower is still a good idea. I want a peaceful place to relax. I just don't want to go back there every 15 minutes for inventory management.

Don't touch those GOAT controls though... if they hit us with a trailer next year, game over.

Indeed. It was a big limiter on Watch Dogs and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I think DAI was doomed to begin with, with it's old school PC controls/menus haphazardly thrown onto a controller/console.

But.. We've both fixed up the Traveller so it's not dying anymore and deactivated Rasputin so it's watching over us too.

There has to be some payoff for this, surely? Earthlings coming back!

As someone who played Destiny on both consoles, it was definitely a bit disheartening to know the main console I played on didn't have all the content. I like your perfect world, but I don't think Activision would pass up the opportunity to align with one side or the other.

Past and recent history suggests that Activision is all-in with Sony right now, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that continue. As a long-time Bungie fan and someone who uses Xbox for online games, I'd just personally like to see Xbox fans get something special this time around.

I think the Sony/Activision deal on Destiny covered the entirety of the franchise. Andrew House called it a long term partnership.

They made old weapons and gear irrelevant with each expansion. I'm fully expecting to not be able to bring anything over. Or I will and my end-game exotics from Destiny 1 will just be outclassed by some weapon I pick up immediately, or will require some sort of material grind to upgrade. Wouldn't mind a totally fresh start.

They're utterly pointless right now. If Bungie adds actual communication tools like a real multiplayer game, they might be less pointless. Like another player mentioned, they need to work on seamless towns and cities, similar to WoW. Destiny should stop taking the bad parts of MMOs without also aping the good.

Too soon I guess?

Activision would probably prefer to have it at E3 I assume.

Destiny 2 HYPE!

I'm still holding hope for some Dev thing or teaser at PSX........Since TTK, Destiny has been a fantastic experience.

This could easily work.....bounties are more near the locations and are picked up at towns along the way. You come back turn quests in and move on. Sometimes you have to visit old places you already traveled too and yadada. It really sounds like they want to make it feel like more of an mmo then ever before. Which for the gameplay it has is fucking awesome.

Hopefully we'll able to import the character and class. Not the gear, not the level or the abilities, all I want is the most threadbare continuity with my old avatar. Ax chop all the rest of that shit. Deliver on the vision of Destiny we were promised in 2013.

I know I keep saying this but its worth repeating in the hope Bungie staff is reading all this...please let me have more than 3 people in a fireteam on patrol. Let me have the option to fill up to 9 slots with my buddies so we can all participate in your awesome content together.

Said this and was met with much resistance and condescension.

Be wary, Guardian
