Gears of War 4 Graphics & Performance Guide

It's close. Very. And when we update Gears 4, we will also update Gears UE at nearly the same time. Both are getting MGPU support at the same time.
Sounds good.

Can't wait to see the first person to mix his GTX Titan XP with an onboard Intel GPU

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
The build we used was installed on Thursday, and I worked on from 7am-11pm Friday, 7am-3am Saturday, 8am-11pm Sunday, 7am-10pm Monday, most of yesterday when not doing work stuff, and then some final bits and pieces today. I've done more in less time before, so this was pretty easy going in comparison :)

Lots of playing to find spots, then lots of setting toggling, benchmarking, etc And I have a colleague who does the wider range of benchmarking for the charts and GPU lineups. Wouldn't be able to do it without him, so props to Oleg.

Thanks for the response. That's indeed a lot of work, and I can imagine having to crunch more on other occasions.

Shoutouts to Oleg too!

Sounds sound terrible
Whole gameplay and stuff looks bad
Games graphics look pretty meh.

Really...

Man everything they've shown on this looks like one hell of a port. And the early buzz is making it sound like the game is going to review very well

I'd love to be playing the PC version as well, but since my PC won't download the Anniversary Update, looks like I'm SOL.

Too bad too, sounds like a terrific port.

Great to see it have such scale-able options although for a lot of them in present in the guide it seems to perceived differences between high and insane/ultra is very minimal. The high cost of DoF from Ultra to Insane seems crazy for the improvement it gives. Is DoF really that costly as an effect with such small increments affecting performance to that degree?

I think am starting to slowly realise that > high settings often not worth that in games(Even as a future setting) the visual improvement is just so minimal.

Anyways sounds like a great PC verison. Good job The Coalition.

Really...

There was one "graphics look meh" dude in the Forza thread. Now there's this guy. Is this some Xbox thread thing on NeoGAF? Some sort of inside joke?

Download a 1607 full OS iso and install it from there.

I think he is serious

Actually... That is something which was shown off when the feature was first announced, and it was even shown in UE4. However, all it offloads to the Intel GPU is the post-processing portion of a frame. Nvidia GPU still does the vast majority of the frame obviously.

My R9 390 runs FH3 pretty well, though I realize that game has some optimization issues on PC? Whatever the case I just preordered this. Hoping for decent performance.

Good numbers for 1070 in 1080p/1440p, but NFW I'm going to buy this on MS Store. Will wait for Steam release, but if they won't release this game on Steam... No Steam = no buy.

The graphics look bad which is weird because I expected this to wow me like Gears last gen. The performance looks good on a 1080 though so that's great.

I'm on an i7-6700 CPU @3.4GHz and 16GB of RAM, with an R9 380 4GB. 1080p monitor.

This is my work PC, and I game primarily on my Xbox One at home. I have a very limited understanding of how well I would be able to run Gears 4 on my work PC.

What would I be looking at here?

There we go. Did some OC tests for the last two hours. My GPUs should prove to be a little less of a bottle neck now and upped my CPU a tiny bit too.

Lets hope its stable in Gears as it works fine in the hog that is Forza :D

Now if only I could actually download the game from the Windows store... all the fps in the world doesn't mean jack when downloading keeps failing..

How can people think the graphics look bad on this? I think it looks pretty good.

Are we watching the same video? Look at the first combat scene - the cutscenes look great but once it transitions to gameplay, it absolutely looks mediocre.

Main character's hair? Awful. The animations? Clunky. Textures on the wooden benches and up-close on the 'not locust but totally locust' enemies? Really not good.

I watched the 4K video on a 1440p monitor, it looked OK. Game could be fun, but it's not pushing the boat out visually like Gears 1-3 did.

Ok so it's not just me.

I thought I was being overly harsh for a minute but then I re-watched it then went through the screens again and yeah it looks disappointing for a Gears title.

Last AO comparison links on the NVidia site don't work

Going by the screens it does remind me of the Gears remaster which I thought had a inconsistent look and also Gears 4 seems to be going for effects and some material work.

I hope the PC version will uses the console versions' shader code on PC for AMD graphics cards versus NVidia sponsored ones that will run terribly.

I think the game has a great art style. It's a highly atmospheric shooter, which is something you don't really get much in the AAA space. The focus on realism leads to sterility.

Compressed web video isn't really a good way to judge graphics either. The game doesn't disappoint in person. It looks better than CoD and Titanfall 2, and only cedes the graphics crown to BF1.

Um, no? The latest I can find is still 16.9.2 and that one does not mention Gears of War 4

There was an update recently actually for game ready, it wasn't a sperate new crimson release but an update for gears. I installed it days ago on top of the 16.9.2

Edit it actually officially says 16.10.1.

:/ wasnt that hard to find on their site...

topic: after quantum break and Forza H 3 i`ll wait for performance reviews.. no way i splash out big bugs to see a bug fest. Especially on my AMD card.

Will this be the first W10 game to not run like shit on PC?

i really hope so.
