In March, during a CNN town hall, from Hillary Clinton.
Look, we have serious economic problems in many parts of our country. And Roland is absolutely right. Instead of dividing people the way Donald Trump does, let's reunite around policies that will bring jobs and opportunities to all these underserved poor communities.

So for example, I'm the only candidate which has a policy about how to bring economic opportunity using clean renewable energy as the key into coal country. Because we're going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business, right?

And we're going to make it clear that we don't want to forget those people. Those people labored in those mines for generations, losing their health, often losing their lives to turn on our lights and power our factories.

Now we've got to move away from coal and all the other fossil fuels, but I don't want to move away from the people who did the best they could to produce the energy that we relied on.

So whether it's coal country or Indian country or poor urban areas, there is a lot of poverty in America. We have gone backwards. We were moving in the right direction. In the '90s, more people were lifted out of poverty than any time in recent history.

Because of the terrible economic policies of the Bush administration, President Obama was left with the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, and people fell back into poverty because they lost jobs, they lost homes, they lost opportunities, and hope.

So I am passionate about this, which is why I have put forward specific plans about how we incentivize more jobs, more investment in poor communities, and put people to work.

Hillary was criticized for those comments as "killing jobs".

You're welcome to be cynical if you want, but try to do some research.

People can be callous enough to say "There's only 75,000 coal mining jobs left in the US, why bother?" But the whole point is not to leave them behind and take them also through an energy industry transition.

Is there any precedent in US history for a presidential nominee making threats that they'll see their opponent thrown in jail once their elected?

I can sort of imagine this being a thing in the early days of the US, but it seems much more like the sort of thing you see in authoritarian regimes where political opposition is jailed.

I couldn't bring myself to watch more of the debate than the 20 or so minutes that I watched, but that really stuck out to me.

Finally been watching this from across the pond, but man, some parts made me furious anyway. First of all how much personal shittalking there was and how little policy. And then if they actually turned to it, how they just left any statement unquestioned, no matter how controversial.

Some examples:
Trump:
- 800 billion USD trade deficit and how he will make much better deals than that. What is he even talking about here? These trades come from businesses and households, there is no governmental approval to them. Does he want to introduce trade barriers? The consequences of that would be insane. Devalue the Dollar? Equally ridiculous.
- Iran deal. Could someone please ask what his alternative is? Having Iran be the eternal enemy, forever under embargoes, working on nuclear power and maybe more in secrecy? This deal was genius in my opinion, a complete breakthrough for the west in a complicated situation, giving us great transparency while at the same time getting Iran out of its isolated corner.
- Reduce tax rate from 35% to 15%. How? What are you going to cut? Would have to be tremendous, since you also want to reduce debt.
- He wants to fucking support Assad and let Putin bomb the rebels. No a single question asked about that. He must be the only politician in the US with that opinion, he's not even of the same opinion as his VP!
- Innercities. He wants to improve them, big league. How? Not a single word.
- "Nuclear". He wants to expand American nuclear power. This would have raised so many flags a couple of decades ago. Nada.

Hillary:
- Super weak on healthcare, didn't actually answer the question.
- No-fly zone over Syria. Maybe ask what's going to happen to Russian jets then? Because those are the ones she would have to shoot down. Crazy idea at this point.
- Arming Kurds. NATO ally Turkey is actively fighting Kurds and even pushed them out of territory they conquered from ISIS. Would she mess with Erdogan here?
- Kind of weak on refugees. Canada is taking more than the US, but the US is actively fighting there. Not to mention how egregious the vetting process already is.
- Coal? You want to get back into coal??

And since they're talking about Russia and Putin so much, I would also love for someone to ask what would happen in a NATO article 5 scenario in the Baltics for example. Especially after Trump's comments regarding military budgets of member nations.

Because a) it's an actual admission of illegal activity. He is privately admitting to sexually assaulting women.

B) other things trump has said can be hand waived away by supporters as his "telling it like it is" bullshit, I.e. he could just be beating his chest and telling people what they want to hear. In this situation, this is what trump is like in private when he doesn't know he's being recorded. It's irrefutable.

C) the people he attacked and offended weren't thought of as necessary to political victory. They may be wrong but some GOP faithfuls seemed to be okay with him attacking minorities. But they absolutely need the women vote and this was trump directly attacking women. The people who are only now disavowing trump are the ones who are trying to save their house or Senate seats. They don't want their female supporters thinking theyre ok with what trump said.

It's more explicit than past comments. He says exactly what he thinks he can get away with, and uses derogatory terms for women. He may have been bigoted and chauvinistic in the past, but much of the language used was cushioned in a way that gave him just enough wiggle room to deny prejudice and bias. Now he's got to deal with "I moved on her like a bitch," and "they let you do anything, grab them by the pussy." There's not much room to spin that.

The intelligence community had been openly voicing their suspicion that Russia was behind the hacks, and attempting to influence the election, but only officially did so days ago.

The link I provided earlier shows that not only was Trump given the heads up before it was officially announced, but he was given the heads up before he went on an embarrassing tirade about 400 lb hackers.

It does show how normalised Islamophobia is and how undervalued Muslim Americans are that he gave such an offensive response and I've not seen it discussed in any media since.

But hey, shrug, guess it was a draw between the incoherent actual fascist and a competent, eloquent, qualified woman.

Woman in the middle with the most hilarious reaction expressions I've seen this election. Doesn't say a word, but her face says it all. Man on the left just in disbelief too. His reaction to "he's not running for pope" was gold.

If it was known what Bill was accused of before then he would have never became president. Never in a million years.

The situation is very different between the two.

The election sucks, but really sets the stage for a better politician to come along next time and do what Trump is doing more skillfully.

Quoted for fucking truth. Hillary isn't perfect, but the "both sides are the same" folks are so damn annoying. You can do example after example, show them why both sides aren't the same, and they'll either ignore you, or plug their ears and continue to insist there's no difference between a woman who dedicated her life to poltics and a man who is racist, sexist, bigoted, and wholly unqualified for the presidency.

Since a few mentioned a perceived bias towards trump in my TL;DR debate notes: I am 42, and have voted Democrat in every election up to this one. I do hate both candidates but there is no way I will vote for Hillary. Even taking that into account, most of my choices in summaries were for humor more than anything, and I will likely vote either 3rd party, write in, or abstain entirely.

That one answer where Trump was like "We need more nukes than Russia" felt so out of place I laughed out loud at how insane it was. The next 4 to 8 years are going to be dark times...
