I hate every single person who has gotten to play this already :(

Just give us this short showfloor version as a demo.

May I present to you the alternative I'm planning to use:

Still making my way through FFVII

Wonder if there'll be any dream sequences, unreliable narrators or anything like that in XV. Hope there are ultimate weapons, though I've no idea how weapon progression works in this, only how you pick up the new types.

Do we know if its the original Aerith's Theme, or the Advent Children version? Both are great, though I'd prefer the former.

Think I'm coming around on this. Looks like most of my peeves might be restricted to just the beginning of the game, and many of those have gone away with the improvements. Love the dialogue and after seeing Kingsglaive interested in exploring the world they created.

Another one! Pretty cool seeing alot of people get positive about this now

I don't find that video all that impressive? The more realistic they try to make the graphics, the more bland it looks. Look at how much better FFVIII and IX aged compared to FFXII. I just want the Fantasy put back in Final Fantasy.

FFVIII and IX look great, but FFXII is better. For me FFXII was the first JRPG that justified full 3D in JRPGs. Even DQVIII looked bland.

Ok we know that the game is open and then after a certain point starts becoming linear. Which i am super cool about that. But, after that particular point, where the story becomes linear, is the player able to go back to the open world and finish stuff he didnt do?

A simple yes or no will suffice as I dont want to know how or when the point of linear storytelling begins.

Yep.

If they don't, I'm sure the PC mods will save us for future playthroughs a few years later.

Word :')

It's really weird. You'd expect the first game he directed in the series to be featured, but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think there's some copyright issues with the game and its OST.

Could be also the reason why we dont see digital copies of the game on PSN (unless they stealthy added them recently :p).

Yup, Tabata recently said you would be able to return through a menu or something (he probably meant the standard fast-travel function which they used in the EGX (or was it TwitchCon?) stream too). I wonder what that later part is, hmm...

So, will we need to worry about crashing the Regalia into a lot of invisible walls? I highly doubt we will be able to fly over to Insomnia in the background of this picture...
And what about the second continent, when it is going to get linear? We can't possibly fly to and over that part of the map, can we?

It'll most likely steer the car back away from Insomnia with some dialogue to like "we can't fly over etc etc"

I don't see any reason for invisible walls except around the actual borders of the whole world. Even flying over Insomnia shouldn't be a problem. You can only land on roads, so that's all the restriction it needs.

Overworlds were always bland in FFs:

It's all about the points of interest inbetween those stretches of empty space and FFXV will have plenty of those too (also it's supposed to become more fantastical the further you progress through the world, they just haven't shown those areas much yet, which is good actually):

Sure, but key difference you don't spend a lot of time in the overworld of past FF. except for when you decide to grind. The world map back then were relatively small, because developers place a bigger emphasis on the points of interest. Very, very little sidequest revolve around the map, no random shiny loot to pick up.

Contrast this to FFXV which prides on being the first mainline Final Fantasy which is open world, sorta. Player is expected to be in the overworld for a larger portion of time, do a lot of exploration and sidequests on the overworld, and you can bet points of interests (actually meaningful one, not talking about random fishing pond and stuff) are going to be far less, and being open world game, you have mandatory filler content all over the place, including random loot to collect off the ground.

Now Episode Duscae had me really concerned that the overworld of FFXV would be too weak based on the level design there to make for a compelling open world experience, but recent footage gave me some hope at least.

Are you telling me they are going to model all of that so you can fly over it? XD

Insomnia also should have roads galore. ;)

Modeling the buildings and some basic structures isn't a problem. You can see most of it in the Platinum Demo already. The issue with making a city of that size explorable is only on the ground. It's populating it. Flying over it shouldn't be that much of a problem. The whole city is probably fewer polygons than Noctis' hair.

But after the events of Kingsglaive, story wise, I don't think it'll be possible... however I do wish that eventually they would release a big expansion pack that would let us explore Insomnia by foot. Or a prequel featuring Nyx =)

Fair point and one which I already discussed before in other threads, but the main argument of the post I replied to seemed to be that there is no or barely any fantasy element in the environments' designs, which isn't true even though we haven't seen that much of it yet.

I could see Insomnia having "invisible wall" in form of anti-air sites or something that prevent you from going there by flying.

That's the part that would be unrealistic. If you're just doing a flyby, you can get away with some fairly low-quality polygons and basic textures. A building can be not much more than a cuboid with a texture on it.

Once you're on the ground, you need crazy higher levels of detail, not to mention pathing, population, places to explore, etc. It's a totally different ballgame.

Even with the Kingsglaive damage, it's not totally crazy. All that said, it's also totally possible they don't let us fly over it, too.

I honestly don't see them making Insomnia explorable but I would be here for it. I think the question begs on how much if they did decide to go with it.

It would be kind of bad-ass if Ardyn wasn't the main villain and you got Insomnia back in the middle of the game and there would be another bigger antagonist or plot twist
(and the Chapter 0 flashforward in Insomnia isn't late-game)

Final build? I didn't know the game was Gold yet. I thougth games become GOLD generally a month before release to prepare for shipments and marketing. Isn't that this a little early? Then why the delayed date if it is already finished?

Are they focusing on the PS4 PRO version now?

It went gold mere days ago, it wouldn't have made September 30, not even for the gold version (in the best case it would have gone gold ON September 30). On top of that, producing copies and distributing them worldwide tends to take several weeks (remember, Uncharted IV went gold on March 18 but got delayed purely for shipping purposed from october 27 to may 10).

Edit: And yes, they mentioned they would work on the Pro version after finishing the original product, so now they will be doing Pro improvements. These improvements aren't very difficult to implement, I'd think, since it usually is upping the resolution or providing some additional supersampling pulled from the Pro's beefier GPU. Therefore they don't take much time or man power. Most of the team will now move on to DLC production and a handful will do the Pro version.

I think people are saying it is a final build based on vastly improved it looks and that it probably can't be changed too significantly now.

It went gold mere days ago,
Source? The BGW off screen footage shows some slight differences. Of course, that could just be included in the day 1 patch. But I believe this thread title was made on an assumption anyway.

You're right, I mistook the data lock for gold (the data lock was on September 30).

Edit: And the article I put in this edit before is from the same time as all other info, so nvm please.
