Triple-bill of terror as survival horror Amnesia comes to PS4

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Bought.

Never played these games.

Amnesia is a classic, and this thing is worth it for that alone. Justine is great too. However AMFP is so bad that it probably would have been better value if they didn't include it in this package. I wonder what TCR's original mess was, considering frictional had to step in and delay the game for 6 months to fix whatever TCR made.

I do wonder if Amnesia has aged well though. The genre has evolved a lot since its release and a lot of the tricks it introduced are played out. It revolutionized the genre for sure though.

Now this is a game that needs to be on Playstation VR. I bet you nobody in this thread will be able to finish the game on VR.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Do we dare ask for VR support? I probably couldn't handle it.

I don't think my heart and psyche would survive this. Even Rush of Blood is much more intense and scary in VR than it looks like on YouTube.

But a lot of people including myself liked AMFP more than the original.

It's nice you've got this opinion and all, buy maybe consider the possibility that potential first-timers to the games on PS4 might enjoy it.

Of course, I can definitely see why some people might like it (even if I disagree strongly with those reasons), but to me it really doesn't hold up to the rest at all. Personally they should have allowed people to buy them seperately; $29:99 puts them both at $15 (since Justine was a free DLC) and AMfP is nowhere worth that much to me considering that's the price I originally bought it at.

Machine for Pigs is a piece of shit, DD is a treat, enjoy it first timers

Yeah I am stupefied by the Machine for Pigs defenders coming out of the woodwork in this thread. Didn't know there actually were people who thought it was better than the first game!!! Which, of course, is craziness.

I don't necessarily think it was better overall (the story certainly is, though). I'd even say that if you played and liked SOMA without playing an Amnesia, you'd stand a better chance of liking AMFP than DD.

I've only played The Dark Descent, but I'll double-dip to support the dev. Hopefully the performance on PS4 will be better than SOMA's (at least pre patch).

Surprised it took so long for this series to hit consoles. I wonder if it means they'll finally add Steam achievements since they'll have to do trophies for this release.

I was planning on playing at least The Dark Descent around Halloween but I might hold off just in case. I'm a giant wuss, so any excuse to postpone the playthrough is good enough for me lol.

How's the experience with a controller? Building a new pc next week and I'm wondering how I should play it. I highly prefer comfy couch gaming but not if it compromises the experience.

I'm curious how they will handle opening doors. In the pc version when you open doors you use the mouse so that you can either peak or throw the door open real fast.

Not sure how that will work on a controller..

What an amazing surprise for Halloween. Amnesia series was the one I tweeted to Sony a long time ago, when they asked what PC/indie games people wanted to see on the PS4. Better late than never.

It's also great to be finally able to play A Machine for Pigs on my preferred platform, as it didn't work out that well on my laptop. I'll probably skip the first though, as it seems like something I wouldn't enjoy playing myself.

What's Justine? I've never heard about it before.

TBH, I tried to play the first Amnesia about a year ago and I thought it looked like a PS2 game. I'll be curious to see how much this remaster improves things.

Me neither, but from the blog post:

The third game is a lesser known Amnesia title called Amnesia: Justine. This game was made as part of a promotion for Valve’s Portal 2, where we, together with a bunch of other indie developers, took part in an Alternative Reality Game. We decided to use this as an excuse to do something different and went full in on making a whole new story in the Amnesia universe. Justine is a shorter game, taking the form of a series of trials and is heavily inspired by films such as Saw and the historical persona of Elisabeth Báthory.

It actually sounds really cool.

Will buy. I like supporting these guys when I can. I never got around to finishing A Machine For Pigs either.

First Amnesia is too fucking stressful to play -- well, it was about 4-5 years ago when I first played it. For those unaware, Amnesia: Dark Descent is a game most people can't bring themselves to finish because of the psychological stress/terror it inflicts upon you (including some people I know in the games industry who just couldn't handle it).

I wonder what I'd think of it now, guess we'll see.

Amnesia is great, but based on reputation Machine for Pigs is a big step down n I don't know anything about Justine. I think the only way I'd buy this is when it eventually hits $15 or less, which is a fair price for Amnesia (the other two could be considered freebies to my mind).

What kind of gameplay?

Any gore?

From what I've played (never finished 2spooky) it's got puzzles and you have to sometimes get/do specific things and go places while avoiding scary monsters.
You can't fight anything and once a monster spots you you have to break its line of sight for long enough to quit following you, by closing doors and hiding in cabinets.
There's also a sanity meter you have to manage (some neat effects when you are nearly insane) as well as oil for your lamp.
The monsters themselves are pretty nasty/gorey, and I'm pretty sure there's instances of bloody piles lying in some places but I don't remember very well.

Super nifty game with cool ideas but damn is it spooky.
