Playstation VR owners, has the technology blown your mind?

YES! It blew me and my gf's mind!

I feel like a kid again playing video games for the very first time! That London Heist and PS Playroom platformer... Good lord! My gf loves Job simulator too!

Rigs and Battlezone had me smiling the whole time playing the demo! It's that good!

The tech is amazing, even if it's blurry a little bit. The sense of immersion is unmatched...

However, I've been struggling with motion sickness. Games where I'm immobile are fine, like Ocean Descent or parts of London Heist. However, fast moving games get me dizzy pretty easily right now.

For example, I was able to play through the London Heist car chase, which moves pretty fast, without feeling too bad, but I felt exhausted after only a few minutes.

Thumper was a problem for me during sharp turns. Scavenger's Odyssey got me dizzy during twisting jumps.

Maybe I'll get used to it, but I already have low tolerance to motion sickness, so maybe I'll be stuck with certain types of games only.

Yes it freaking did, I've never tried vr before. The first time I put my psvr headset on I couldn't stop laughing, I just couldn't believe what I was experiencing, to be inside another world/reality was finally happening. I felt like a kid being marveled at a new amazing discovery.
It's been almost a week and I still love it, I can't wait for new games and experiences in this medium.

Edit: OK that was a bullshit argument. The people who are buying PSVR probably have more disposable income and that's not really a concern. I just question when it gets to the point that VR is common enough. Will it be able to go toe to toe quality wise with standard games. I think it has to meet or surpass standard gaming quality including visual IQ to gain true traction.

It was exciting the first few times... but the more i've played the more i've just wanted to go back to my high resolution monitor. In 5-10 years i can see VR really being something special but right now i cant see many minds being consistently blown day after day.

What is funny is that the experiences i thought would be the best in VR havent...

And the experiences that i thought would be boring in VR have been the best...

Case in point - Rigs and Eve did make me sick as a dog and everything feels sluggish and not 1:1. Thumper and Tumble feel outright amazing and are really something special.

But is it good enough that if you have to make the choice between a standard game and a VR game you will choose VR?

VR adds that extra features advantage that makes you consider it over alternatives.

Think how some people won't touch a game without achievements.

Run of the mill VR game > Run of the mill non-VR game

If a single-player game exists in both VR and traditional forms and the VR implementation is decent, I will probably choose VR every time.

I'd already played VR beforehand and was damn impressed, the experience sold me on the hardware for a more affordable solution immediately. PSVR has well and truly surpassed my expectations, and I want VR games more than I want traditional games at the moment, if budget forced me to go for one or the other VR would currently win. As somebody who has had most consoles since the SNES near or around launch it has been my favourite launch of any hardware. Now all that remains is for developers to release a strong lineup of content over the next few years, till the end of the year looks good to me but not much is known past then.

As Christmas is getting closer, I'm thinking about treating myself to a nice present this year. After reading so many positive reactions here on GAF about the new Playstation VR, I've been getting more and more excited about it (I wasn't interested at all when it was announced)

The thing is that I still find it quite a big investment, including the VR system+camera+Move, and I'd only be willing to pay for it if the technology really is something extraordinary.

So Playstation VR owners, how's been your experience so far? Are you happy with your purchase? Has the technology blown your mind?

Yes it has. I honestly want to find a way to get into the content creation business because it has convinced me that VR is the future of entertainment.

Also, everyone who has tried mine has been blown away too. I cannot wait until artist really dig in and take advantage of VR.

Aside from trying to fix the left drift issue, I've been very impressed so far with the level immersion, particularly in EVE: Valkyrie and Rez, to the point of excusing the low resolution.

I've been blown away, I have to admit. The weaknesses of the unit are obvious, but in no way take away from the awesome feeling of immersion. Man, looking around to take a shot in RIGS is an amazing feeling. I love it, can't wait for more games ... even realizing there will be an inevitable upgrade in a few years.

But, I'm alive now, and I want to enjoy it now ... so, I'm not going to sit around and wait for a better set in the future.

Yes, and this is genuinely the biggest "whoa" moment since 2d to 3d for me. And I totally agree with what Shuhei said, this is like the PS1 of VR (at least in terms of tech, definitely not going to sell nearly as well). There are lots of improvements that can and need to be made, but its a big step and is introducing something for gaming that is here to stay.
But is it good enough that if you have to make the choice between a standard game and a VR game you will choose VR?
No one set answer as different games would have different implementations. Already made that choice for Thumper, absolutely do not want to play that game without VR.

I'm most curious about this. How is it using it just for normal non VR stuff?

I've played a couple rounds of Rocket League, and it was pretty intense with how big the screen was. I'm sure if I messed with FOV and other settings, it would have been even better. Just be aware, the graphics do take a hit.

I don't know about blown my mind, but after a being disinterested in video games for 2-3 months now I'm back into it again.
(Only game I was waiting for was The Last Guardian.)

I went to test it first at a colleague with the intention of not buying it and I was convinced that I want to take part in the relatively early days of commercial VR.

I've said "okay, this is really cool" out loud to myself a few times and probably a sign that I'm either enthusiastic again or mental.

I'm not sure what the point of early adopting is if you are questioning the cost.

It's good concept but this is not what VR is going to be in 5-10 years.

Yes. I had never tried VR before and it's amazing. I can't think of the last time I've constantly smiled and laughed while playing. And if I'm not smiling I'm gaping at how awesome something is. As long as the games keep rolling in I won't be one bit disappointed with this purchase.

Yes, it blew my mind the same way that running around the garden outside the castle in Super Mario 64 blew my mind 20 years ago.
^ ^ This.

I still can't get over how awesome VR is. It's hard for me to go back to regular flatscreen games after this.

This thread has my wallet sweating. And I do have camera and two moves already...

Want to wait a good six months though and see what traction is really like and what longer term flow of games looks like.

That applies to all technology. Look at the NES to PlayStation 1 ... that's 10 years, and look at the massive change. Just because there is something better coming, it doesn't mean there is no entertainment value in what is here today. In fact, if all you look for is tomorrow's tech, it may never arrive - sales of prior products drive new consumer devices.

I'll be keeping my eye out for responses but even though I'm luke warm on VR right now I will wait until the PS4k comes out before I try it out.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Not worth the $800 CAD I paid for it.

Games are dizzying, the resolution is painfully low and the novelty of presence wears thin shortly after those two realities set in.

I'd invest in 4K/better visuals if you have money to burn.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I'm not an owner (I am depressingly poor currently) but used it enough at shows and a friends house. I am VERY impressed, and thats after having tried Vive.

- I am blown away by the custom OLED getting rid of the screen door effect and all without any ugly lens-flaring. Combined with a larger than I expected field of view.

- Its also by far the most comfortable VR headset yet with simply push and pull to adjust.

- I was only expected somewhat average looking PS3 graphics, but stuff like Batman is already setting crazy expectations as to what can be achieved. I wish Naughty Dog could be convinced to work on the platform and not regard it as a peripheral they never need to bother with.

- PlayRoom VR is an absurdly fantastic proof of concept pack. Robot Rescue alone shows the developers deserve a far fatter budget to produce something full-price since MANY people I've seen online and spoke to in person said it gave them the feeling Mario 64 did 20 years ago.

- Rigs really surprised me with the presence you feel in the "options/select" environments. Whatever they did to heighten my sense of immersion there needs to be studied as it surprised me greatly.

Hell Yeah!

The last time I was so amazed was Mario 64.

Im playing since Thursday and can't get enough. Playing EVE Valkyrie after work is so relaxing. Playing anything in there is so relaxing (except until dawn lol), because you go into another place / world / time.

I wouldn't say it's blowing my mind, but it exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure if PSVR could give you adequate presence and immersion considering the tech budget, but they pulled it off. The hardware is ace and the games themselves are well made, polished and diverse - PSVR is the real deal.

For me it's worth it. After trying gearVR/PSVR for the first time I was 100% sold on VR.

What I really want is a Vive 2, but due to the lower cost of PSVR, the comfort of the headset, and the suite of games which interested me I decide to get a PSVR first.

When a Vive 2 comes out I will buy that too.

VR isn't replacing standard gaming for me, but it is going to be a complement. I love the technology. My first experiences with VR did kind of blow my mind in the way that Mario 64 did way back when as a kid.

PSVR has a lot of limitations but I'm too excited about VR in general to be put off by it. It's a great first product imho.

I'm loving it so far even though i suck at Battlezone. Keep going back to get my butt kicked. Everyday at work I sit there thinking about what game to try next. Maybe it will wear off over time but right now I'm not interested in playing on anything else.

I have played almost all the demos and I have been blown away by the sense of presence, really enjoyed Rigs, Battlezone, Rush of Blood, Headmaster and Tumblr VR.

Been playing VEV now too and its a good game for what its worth, Nice visuals too.

Overall, I would say yes VR is amazing and its here to stay. Can't wait for gen two.

I would say so, yes. I've only tried VR back in 1995 or so (i remember the game, but not that much of the VR feeling) and one time with the first Oculus version (DK1?), but when i put on the PSVR the first time and tried Ocean Descent, the feeling was pretty incredible. The feeling in the menu room in VR Worlds is also pretty sweet. Rush Of Blood is also pretty incredible, feels like i'm in the room.

Yes it absolutely has! I was sceptical because I use a projector and the screen is almost as big as my field of view, so I didn't think this would add that much to immersion, but I was totally wrong. The graphics are better than I thought they would be, too on most games. This is a monumental step forward for gaming on the level of the move from 2d to 3d graphics.

Battlezone is hard lol

I made the mistake of RIGS being the first game I tried. That game made me a believer in the VR learning curve. No other games gave me motion sickness but I couldn't make it through the tutorial in RIGS. However once I got used to VR with other games I went right back to RIGS and was able to clear the tutorial and play a few matches before I started to feel a little queasy. Took another break from the game, and then the next time I played I experienced zero discomfort.

The game is absolutely right when it tells you - play RIGS in short bursts at first until you become accustomed to it. I think it's the slickest and most immersive VR experience available on the platform, but it has a bit of a learning curve before I could comfortably play it.

Yeah Batman is quite a step away from the mobile games graphics that I've read about here by accepted authorities pre-release.

TBF it's not a traditional game in the sense that there are only small areas that you cannot leave, which allows the devs to make everything look better.

Driveclub does look like ass. Playroom looks very nice in contrast because it doesn't even aim to be realistic. Kitchen demo is somewhere in the middle, nice assets, but the IQ is very jaggy and everything shimmers.

You can move the goal post as much as you want why Batman, Rigs, London Heist or Until Dawn or whatever do not count.

I read on here that it will be a little bit better than GearVR and having used GearVR I do not agree with that after having played with both.

Yes, but I never really tried other VR devices before so this was basically my first experience with VR. Graphics and resolution have been underwhelming but the sense of being inside of a virtual reality is something that exceed my expectation.
