I probably should have said checkerboard rendering. My bad :)

I kinda figured that I just want to know if there is dedicated embedded memory for it & if so how much & how fast?

The console doesn't send out the checkerboard render it resolve it all into a final output frame that is 4K or whatever the output buffer will be. kinda like tile based rendering

The final render is the resolution & if that final resolution is 4K then it's 4K. you can say that it's cheating & call it PR but it's still 4K.

It's like tile based rendering it's broke up into smaller parts but the final buffer is the resolution.

If Sony is doing parallel rendering they are breaking the rendering process up into smaller processes but the final frame will still be made up of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Just like tiled based rendering that's why I was trying to explain that it is still 4K just not immediate mode 4K rendering.

Had it confirmed in two different Gamester's, but they both said the deal doesn't start till the pro comes out apparently. So 3 weeks.

Its very tempting, my launch model is getting a bit noisy installing games so I need to replace it sooner rather than later.

It's good the offer doesn't start until the Pro gets released, I want to play World of Final Fantasy over the long weekend before trading it in.

Does the offer say if a game had to be included?

Nope, just the console, working controller, controller charging cable, HDMI, power cable.

You aren't married are you? When couples split things like bills, expenses, savings etc you have to discuss things before buying. It's actually pretty simple really.

Yes actually, I am.

We have money, I know whether a thing can be bought or not. I don't need anyone to tell me that we can't afford it and nor does my wife.

Got a question. For those that don't correct for overscan (which seems to be the majority of TV owners) won't that completely fuck up checkerboard rendering since the artificial zoom-in is preventing a proper one to one pixel mapped image?

Damn that tesco deal, i wish we could get something like that here in sweden at that price i would have bought it outright.:)

According to it's stats, it can't do 4K gaming natively either.

Without 4K Player it's useless. How can they advertise it as 4K anything?

According to what stat?

PRO has more native 4k games before release than there is 1080p games on Xbox one. Did that stop MS from advertising X1 as HD console?

Before VR I was looking at 4K TVs a lot, but since I got the PSVR the only reason I didn't cancel my preorder was that it could well improve the VR experience.

Anyone else have that feeling? Compared to having a gameworld drawn all around you, a flat square surface just seems ...

Of course not all games will be great with VR but man - choosing between VR and 4K, I know which way I'd prefer to play most games.

Going by the move from 28nm to 16nm vs the doubling of the GPU CU & small upclock on some of the parts I'm not really sure why the PS4 Pro is so big.

I would guess it's all in the heat sink.

I would guess it's all in the heat sink.

There are two components to power consumption. Static and dynamic power consumption. Static power consumption is basically current that the device burns regardless of load times the power rail. Dynamic power is proportional to CVdd^2f where C is capacitance, Vdd is supply rail, and f is clock frequency. As the die shrinks the minimum length of the transistor gets smaller. The maximum theoretical clock speed of a transistor in a process node is ft. the smaller length means smaller capacitance. I believe between these two process techs VDD remains the same. So even though C has gone down, of clock frequency is higher, you burn more total power. Since power generates more heat, you need more thermal dissipation.

A die shrink does not necessarily mean the solution gets smaller. If the clock frequency remains the same this is the case. But Sony is also increasing the clock so the gains are offset.

If you assume the SoC size almost doubling doubled power draw, the clock boost increases per draw 50% on top while the 28->16 shrink halved it or bring crazy generous maybe 60%, you're still looking at a significant overall increase on what would otherwise be ~3x increase without the shrink. So it really should not be a surprise at all that the chassis size and rated power draw is much larger.

That's obviously being extremely naieve about these things, but still, not sure why you think it'd be smaller.

Ohh yeah, all over that!

Many thanks, kind sir.

Have to wonder why they're doing it £50 cheaper than everyone else, hoping its not a mistake that they cancel. We'll have to see! I'm assuming this is why there isn't a thread for it.

No problem, I was going to make a thread but with so many Pro threads I thought best just to stick it in here. I've made pre orders before that were a genuine error with tesco's and they were honoured. I think this is just a drop for a day or 2, they had a similar promotion with the Slim too.

Wouldn't be surprised if there's a few retailers who'll price match.

Really tempted by that Tesco deal but I was hoping to hear some player feedback before buying. Hopefully there will be a similar deal post-launch

Cheers for the heads up, my parents are purchasing it for me as a 40th present, will let them know to either call Tesco or cancel and re-order. Previously ordered at £325 after a £25 voucher code, but this price is even better.

Damn, trying to buy from Tesco and they're saying out of stock. That was fast.

Thought I was about to save £50 there.

I can still add it to my basket. Or is it just later that its preventing you from completing?

Sweet. Thanks a bundle. I was going to wait for maybe a UC4 bundle nearer xmas for £350 but this beats that. I'll get my OG unit and an old phone down to CEX this week to cash in.

Basically I want to play UC4, TLOUR (yes, still) and maybe Ratchet. Also just got journey on the PS+ so hopefully it gets a patch too.

Price is appearing for me at £332 now so looks like the £299 price is over.

Edit: adding to basket gives the £299 price, think tesco have their knickers in a twist.

I can now add to my basket and it looks like they have stock again but it's showing as £332.

Not sure £18 is worth potentially losing my day one delivery.
