So I apologize for the long post. Not trying to get banned. But a usual home console launches with 15-25 games. Realistically it made sense to me to break it down this way:

You can safely add Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 to that list. Both EA and Activision are pretty huge companies, they have enough resources to downport those games. And if the hardware gap between Switch and PS4/One is not that big, downporting won't be a problem for them.

Seeing this scene again i was thinking this situation will never happen at least you have Superman sight.

First of all, the space in most of the planes is half that and the folding table is much closer. Secondly, I played so many times in a plane with my phone (Nexus 6) on the folding table. If you have trouble seeing at that distance on such a screen you should really see a doctor.

This has likely been covered somewhere in the last 90 or so pages, but just in case it hasn't, I just noticed something while watching through the trailer:

switch_mini_shoulder_buttons.jpg

(Some CSI-level "zoom and enhance" has been applied to make it easier to make out)

I know people have been speculating about possible hidden shoulder buttons on the joy-cons which can be used for multiplayer games, and I noticed two grey blobs in the screenshot above which may just be those shoulder buttons. They seem to be in just about the right places to be hit with the tips of your index fingers when held in the manner shown in the video.

Joy-Con thread.

Been discussed with lots of pictures. There are definitely buttons there.

You'd be surprised.

That's how Patrick Klepek finished Bayonetta 2. Told the story on a bunch of podcasts.

I thought the same thing when people were gathering around to play multiplayer.

It's a realization that kinda hurts the point of the ad, but won't bother me in practice probably. Most situations where I go somewhere and plan to play Switch, I'd either be playing in handheld mode or on someone's TV.

Me and my friends used to play MK64 and GoldenEye 4 player split screen on one of these:

It's certainly....doable.

I mean, next time I will ask the security at the airport if I can bring my projector with me, because it's unacceptable to play on such a small screen in the plane. /s

I left off Battlefield 1 and Infinite warfare off cause I am not sure Switch can run it. Since Modern warfare remake is a HD remake, I figured that could be run.

The games I listed other than For Honor, I figured should be able to be run no problem.

If it can run ports of even graphical power house Xbone games, that list would change quite a bit.

I find it hilarious that we could potentially get gigantic open world games like FFXV and Skyrim to get shove inside small cartridges.

Technology is amazing.

So I apologize for the long post. Not trying to get banned. But a usual home console launches with 15-25 games. Realistically it made sense to me to break it down this way:

Activision: (2-3) Modern warfare remake, skylanders, Overwatch
EA: (2) Fifa, Garden Warfare 2
2k: (1-2) Nba, ….Grand theft auto V, Bioshock collection, or Borderlands collection?!
Square: (2) Dragon quest builders, World of Final fantasy
Namco: (1) Digimon.
Ubisoft:(2) Just Dance, (R6S, South park, or For Honor)
Capcom:(1) Dead Rising HD port. SFV:CE , RE, and Monster Hunter coming later.
Sega (1) Hatsune Miku. Sonic holiday 2017
Bethesda: (1) Skyrim. Maybe that rumored Fallout New Orleans is timed exclusive for Switch?!
Tecmo: (1) Nights of Azure
Codemasters: (1) Dirt Rally
Atlus: (1) Persona 5? On ps3, so why not.
Spike Chunsoft: (1) Danganronpa something
From software: (1) Dark souls 3 port
Warner: (1) Lego port or Batman collection port

Nintendo: (2) Zelda and MK8 at launch. Splatoon and Smash to follow after.

I still expect a few download titles only like Rocket League, Fast. Racing Neo. I still expect access to a modified version of Google play store. Autodesk is a developer!?

Of course we will get a zombie game of some sort at launch. Of course there will be some form of action game at launch, Rpgs, sports, shooters, and family games as well.

"Realistically"? Switch won't get half of the games on that list, probably not even a quarter.

He means because it's on the tray in front of him as he leans back, rather than him holding it in his hands where he could keep the screen closer.

Never been on a plane so I don't know if this about the space you have in seats or about the distance.

If it's about the distance it just means he never played Off-TV Wii games which works wonderfully and exactly like that. :D

They did, the traditional Nintendo fanbase does not by western 3rd parties, thus they bailed. Since the type of people that will buy a new console at launch is the traditional Nintendo fanbase it will run into the exact same problems.

They would have bought it if it was as powerful as it could have been (give it was a year before PS4) and looked markedly better than PS3/360

Change of topic or maybe something that has been discussed before, would people be willing to accept like 3DS level graphics/assets on the Switch if the game itself costs less? Like there are some companies that stuck with the 3DS (and guess mobile can be included here too) because it was cheaper to develop for so if they kept similar budgets and just had like a better resolution would you buy at 30/40 bucks?

I have a beefy PC and still play pixelated indie games, like millions in fact. If the price is right, there's no nees to push the hardware's limits.

As usual I haven't got the time to discuss NS properly. But I was just reading some of the posts about the bumpers and decided to make a quick image to show you some of the things I have noticed about the subject:

Please feel free to comment. I, as others, have noticed some other small things like what it seems the nvidia logo and some other things I hope to be able to add to those discussions soon.

The curved edges on the top sides that were shown in that image have puzzled me so far since I thought it was the connection side. That explains it though.

I read the link speculating on the power of the Switch. What hard information do we have that Nintendo could or might actually make the Switch juggle single-precision and double-precision with the Tegra? As far as I understand we just know the PS4 Pro does it. That doesn't prove Nintendo will.

The low end of what that post suggested makes a lot more sense to me: noticeably more powerful than the Wii U, but not to the point where EA and Ubisoft can easily port over their AAA games. In any case, this is going to be the most powerful handheld gaming system ever devised. That's kind of a big thing. Nintendo hasn't really been in that position since maybe the three years following the GBA's launch. I don't know how powerful an iPhone 7 really is but it's safe to say it's never getting any game like Skyrim or Breath of the Wild.

When I saw the reddit thing yesterday, I couldn't see what anyone was talking about. Thanks for making an effort with an illustration. You should probably post this in the Joy-Con thread!

It's a built in function/fairly heavily touted feature of Tegra chips, which is why there is speculation that it will be used. Add onto it that apparently UE4 makes heavy use of FP16 precision and it's a safe bet that Switch will make use of mixed precision processing.

But you're for sure right that it's not confirmed. There's just no reason not to use it in cases where it makes sense, so it's a fairly safe bet.

Cool idea, but I hope that black bar you snap on for the bumpers as demonstrated in the pic doesn't turn out to be accurate.

That'd make for too many detachable, separate pieces for one portable.

I was also confused at first, but after giving it a closer look and comparing images it made sense they could try something like that.

Thanks for the tip. I just posted it in there too.

The other things I have noticed in case anyone is wondering is the circular button on the back of the joycons which seems to be for unlocking, the word volume engraved above the rocker buttos, the semicircular "hole offcenter in the bottom part of the screen and some other vague things like the ports on the bottom, logos and the fact that in the e sports scene both pro controllers shown are paired as player one

I really hope that slot under the screen is Mini-USB or USB-C. Would let Nintendo to include a proprietary charger with the thing and would help keep cost down.

It just makes sense.

Its not their 3DS proprietary at the least (too small), and it does look like a USB-C connector, which is a logical connection port for handling the levels of data that the dock would be needing as well as providing power.

Does anybody still think the Pro Controller will have gyro controls?

This was in regards to when I pointed out that the reason the Joy-Con Grip exists is because it's the only way to play Splatoon with gyro controls like the Wii U Gamepad.

This is in reference to that LPVG article that said the Pro Controller doesn't have a headphone jack. This makes it sound like it has the same features as the Wii U Pro Controller.

I also looked at the Splatoon section of the Switch Trailer and all I could see was the USB port on the top and indicator lights on the bottom of the Pro Controller.

Okay take your bets, Nintendo always does a Sunday console launch so our options are 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th of March or they could change it and go for the 10th for MAR10

I want the 5th but I'm betting the 19th

I wouldn't get your hopes up for the bolded games. In the case of SFV, Sony helped pay for the development of that game, & it's not getting any Super/AE/Ultra versions (maybe DLC collections from the previous season, but nothing like what SSFIV was to SFIV). As for GTA & the like, Rockstar may take a wait-&-see approach with the Switch.

People watch stuff on tiny TVs, tiny laptops, tiny phones, tablets and so on, I don't really see this as a problem. I've watched shows on my tablet on the train just like that and I could see them just fine, same with playing Wii games with the Gamepad as a TV.

I agree that USB C is the smart choice, but I also think it might be a bit small for the kind of thing they're going for (just slide it into the dock without worrying about lining up the connectors).
Perhaps there's some kind of physical barrier preventing you from sliding it on misaligned for the port?

It's not ideal, but I watch movies and tv shows on my iphone 6 all the time. And I have the smaller one.

Could Switch or a Switch-like device be the first dedicated tabletop console? Imagine laying the tablet flat on a surface and using the JoyCons to control your player character from a top-down perspective, as if you're controlling an action figure your table. Of course, games would have to be made specifically for that setup but I think it could be pretty interesting.

I agree with all your bolded points except two. Agree on fallout, sfv, and Bioshock. Though Bioshock would be ironic since the Ken Levine video with Wii U.

My argument for GTA was it was a upgraded port from 360. Albeit a completely redone one. Still could probably run in some form on Switch. Nintendo could also use it as a trophy and a sign of third party support with Skyrim, and GTA. Especially if you add Overwatch, and COD to the lineup.

Borderlands had been ported to everything under the sun. Handsome Jack collection may be an easy test balloon for Borderlands 3. Lol, unless they want to put Battleborn on Switch. I'm assuming borderlands 3 will also be able to ported to everything under the sun as well. I have no knowledge, but I assume borderlands 3 is coming holiday 2017. Could help determine if ends up on Switch. It would be an outrageously late port though. Would fit on a cartridge without problem.

Now we come to Overwatch. A teen rate game. To me this is this game they need to have at launch other than Skyrim. It is a smaller game. Would fit on a cartridge without problem. In theory seems like it could be a scalable game and for the first time in ages may challenge COD as the best selling game of the year not made by rockstar.

Realistically I think the best case scenario is Overwatch,Skyrim, and COD being there at launch.

The guy has a valid point. From that distance the screen would be really tiny and text difficult to read. Many people game on 20-something inch tvs from that distance, or use 13+ inch laptop screens from that distance. 6 inches would be very uncomfortable. Just because a couple of yous do it doesn't mean it's perfectly normal.

So with everything that has been said about the concept behind the Nintendo Switch, how does Nintendo go about selling the system in today's market? Looking at hardware sales in the US, one might draw the conclusion that there isn't enough room in the market for Nintendo to launch a new console. In that regard, could the combined sales of the 3DS and Wii U serve as a ceiling for sales Nintendo can expect from Switch?

Concerning Overwatch, it's less of a demographic issue & more of a Blizzard issue. But trust me, if Overwatch came to the Switch, I would have no social life (especially if they gave us gyro controls similar to Splatoon).

Pretty sure there are this physical barriers you're talking about. A few pages back somebody analyzed some screen caps from the trailer and it looks like the way the plastic is molded on the tablet and dock will act as a guide so you can't dock it in a way that would damage anything.

I'm putting all my money on March 5th only because of that Zelda Botw Amiibo date thing that showed early March. Yes, it probably was a placeholder or something, but I'm going with early March.

Hoping for a March 10th launch. They have been launching systems on Fridays since the New 3DS XL, and it would be one day before my birthday.

Nintendo used to launch their consoles and most of their big games on Sundays, but that has since changed to Friday in recent years, so I'm betting on a Friday release for Switch.

MAR10 would be great I'm just thinking mid March because from what I see they usually target the middle of the month
