Final Fantasy XV is now just one month away. Place your bets: will it be good?

Skel1ingt0n

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Will it get good reviews?
Will it please the fans?
Will it live up to the hype?
Where will it fall in the rankings of FF games?

Of course - there will always be detractors and fanboys. Outliers. And yes, everyone has a different opinion.

But just, overall, where do you think this game will land in the eyes of critics and the general public? Could it land in the 90+ metacritic range and be labeled as one of gaming's absolute best this gen, alongside titles like Bloodborne and The Witcher 3?

Or, will it be merely just "good." Reviewers saying it's fun and a good new track for FF games. But nothing amazing, and a bit disappointing after all the hype.

Or, might it end up being disappointing to most everyone. Reviewing worse than the FFXIII games and seen as a horrible entry after all this time.

***

It's too early to make any definitive calls - but this game is weird - I think MOST of us can agree it's one of the more difficult games to assess before release. I mean, it's been delayed for ages, and we've seen some terrible gameplay demos and some horrible graphics downgrades. The game has seen a title change, a new director, a change in direction, and just, overall, a rough development.

But as we get closer and closer, things seem to be - almost surprisingly so - coming together. Gameplay is looking better. The graphics. The impressions. The media hype machine. And it almost seems as if we have barely scratched the surface of what is there.

Yup. Honestly, it'll probably be up there with my favorite mainline FF's.

(Right now they are 1. FFXII 2. FFVI 3. FFXIV 4. FFVII 5. FFX)

Positive that it will review better than XIII. The way they went to improve the game so much in this delay shows hope.

I'll still play it, but I expect the story to be garbage. The combat seems to be shaping up nicely, however.

The expectations are way too high. The circumstances around this game are just incredible. It needs to be great. It won't cut it if it's just good or decent. It needs to push the entire genre forward.

Will it be good? Sure. Very few AAA games are objectively bad.

Good Review? I think it will get higher score than The Division for sure.

Live by the hype? Haha, no. Someone will bring up the "ten years in the making".

Will I enjoy it? Judging from what I've seen and played, definitely.

id like to say it better be a success for being in development for so long

im really interested in the game and it seems like a twist on final fantasy that i can get into. it looks really cool and i wanna play it ofc. i only recently found out about the game if anyone can believe it (about a year ago), and ive never really done any research on it, so i cant make any judgement on how god itll ultimately be... but i cant wait to see how it does after launch

Critically I expect it to get 8/10s with the occasional 7 or 9. The game looks like a lot of fun and the preview footage that's been released looks like something I will enjoy playing. AAA games are rarely bad so there's not really a worry that it's gonna be bad. It will never live up to people hype if they're going in with the mindset of "Hope the 10 years were worth it" ect ect.

One thing's for sure though, it's soundtrack is gonna be SSS-Tier.

Think it will turn out well. Some minor technical issues will occur and the story might go bad but expect myself to enjoy the immensely.

After seeing the omen trailer.

Yes and yes. It will be good. Possibly GotY
NO. It couldnt possibly live up to every players decade long expectations.

Overall it has a chance to be a top 5 FF game. I wouldnt want to be any more hyperbolic then that

It's honestly too big to fail. I don't think it'll be a among the greats or anything, but I don't think it'll be a turd. It's simply impossible to live up to 10 years of production. It'll probably just a very solid and good-ish game.

Well, they are sending the review copies pretty soon. So, I think they are confident enough with the game!
And... If Tabata can't save this, no one can.

It's got fishing...
Instant win.

Can't wait till i get this title.
Not really a Jrpg player but loved FFVIII and 10 (for what i played), mainly because of the concept and style etc and i like what i see with this one, and hope i can get into it.

But it does look really good

After the recent positive preview impressions, I'm actually expecting it to review very well. I'm predicting the game is going to fly in the face of all the negativity surrounding it since E3. Might even be a GotY contender.

I fully expect this game to win Game of the Year awards and all the salty Final Fantasy haters who wanted the Square Enix Empire to fall will go back in hiding.

Thought I would throw this hypothetical out there for funsies.

Imagine if Square went "No review copies until launch-day." It would never happen but the thought of it so hilariously awful.

I think it'll be pretty good, but with middle of the road scores. Probably meta-score around 80 with some outliers on either side. I think it will be some people's favorite in the series, but more commonly I think it will get a top 4-6 ranking from most. I think it will get some flak from some reviews for a lack of diversity in the cast/how women are shown/used.

It took me a looooong time to get hyped, but I finally got there during the whole period they took to further improve the game during this past month. I actually think it will be great. At worst, I feel like the general consensus will say it's a good game, but not GOTY material. Feels unlikely though, but who knows.

The graphics are looking nice. The combat impressions have been positive, and they're continually talking about how it clearly has a lot of depth to it. The world is beautiful, has a wide variety of monsters, and a certainly refreshing world design that differs from the open world games we normally encounter. Then all the little things like fishing, interactions with your group, car rides, car designs, minigames, road trip aspect (Could potentially be very tedious though having to drive place to place without any sort of fast travel substitute, though I do like their reasoning for it.), music, etc. give the impression that they really care about the little details, and that's usually the stuff that leaves you thinking that you really are playing something special.

Ultimately, I feel that it depends on the story. If it's something really contrived or dumb, then that will be the thing that holds it back. And on the smaller note, the sidequests need to be on point as well. But atm, I have confident that more or less everything will be on point. It's my first FF game, and I think I'll likely love it. Got it for cheap anyhow lol

Yeah, I think there's a good chance it will be great. Positive preview impressions, more polished graphics from the delay, and some good feedback from demos really makes this game look like it's about to be a real treat.

I'm gonna say it will be good(70-80 area) but FF fan base might destroy this thing, of course tho I could give a rat's ass of any fanbase's opinion :)

It'll review well I'm sure but I'm worried that it'll disappoint like MGS5.

Though well reviewed that game to me it was a pile of trash and I'd sooner play a Todd Howard game than a Hideo Kojima one.

Type-0 being such a terribly told story is worrying as well.

I hope so, I'm paying for it. My wife is upset that she missed out on FFXIII and all the followups, and really wanted to get this one.

I really didn't like the demos and she didn't finish any of them, but some night screenshots sold me on the purchase.

A lot of game journalists have gone on record saying the gameplay is a big improvement over the demos thankfully!

As long as it has fun time consuming optional quests like legendary weapon quests in the past I'll be happy.

Will it get good reviews?

Yes. XV has a high chance of becoming a serious GOTY contender.

Will it please the fans?

Yes. Both old and newcomers alike.

Will it live up to the hype?

Accumulative hype over 10 years? Probably not.
Hype since the game was rebranded from versus XIII to XV? Yes.

Where will it fall in the rankings of FF games?

The 15 hour previews suggest this could be up there with the best in the series. Maybe not THE best but certainly up there.

It will be good. It will get good reviews. Gaf will nitpick it into oblivion.

Because of the game's development history I can see many being extremely hard on it. Some of it could be valid, sure, but we'll see. I think it's going to be really good, if not great even, but after the wait and everything it's just gonna be scrutinized to ridiculous heights.
