what sort of sick fuck do you have to be to take away a major enjoyment of an autistic kid by assaulting him

The mom tried to press charges and they denied it

What the fuck, this makes me angry. The police in the US needs to get their shit straight (on top of people not assaulting black people for no reason at all in the first place, offcourse).

well it wasn't really the cops here, it was the judge that didn't sign off on a warrant

Ethnicity is not a race!
My son is autistic. Picturing this happening to him makes me see red. My kid wouldn't even know what to do. He would just tell the guy to not push him. He wouldn't run, or fight back. He'd just ask the man to stop pushing him, because that's what you're supposed to do.

I'd end up dying. The cops would have reason to kill me.

As someone who is autistic, don't worry, it makes me see red too. What is even worse is the dipshits who will inevitably defend this with the typical excuses of somehow being superhuman while black, all the while forgetting this was an unprovoked assault on someone who was non verbal and basically running in broad daylight. This attack was precepatated by straight fear.

After everything surrounding this election my disdain for humanity is reaching critical levels

Police renew probe of attack on autistic teen runner at meet.

Edit: I'm very happy to see that it's been reopened, and I hope that there's punishment to the full extent of the law. Any sort of decent human being would have apologized immediately, owned their shitty behavior, and faced the consequences. Instead, there's current persistence on the part of the assailant that it's OK for him to be a horrible person and to have ruined a great outlet for a child that needs a little extra help.

If AP didn't pick up the story and helped it go viral, they wouldn't have done jack.

Not enough faces and palms in the world... both for the incident and police's refusal to allow charges to be filed.

Twist ending, they refused to charge the man

Gee, I wonder why...

That's a lot of jokes making liget of the matter in this thread...

Having a cousin who is physically active and considered mentally handicapped, I'd probably have assault charges on me against the prick

it is sad that people are still so fearful and ignorant. we pretend we don't believe in devils anymore, that we are in a modern scientific society, yet this shit keeps happening. it's direct continuation of the same impulse that lead medieval inquisitors to burn people at the stake bc they were afraid of them being a possessed demon.

if you want respect you need to give respect in turn. fear is not the answer. let's act like this is 2016 not 1316.

I'm all for blaming the police, but this is actually the judges fault and the judge is an African American woman (according to a poster above, I can't read the full news article at work). I can't even begin to understand her thought process when denying the warrant. This is clear assault pure and simple. There's even witnesses.

This makes it even worse. That was an infuriating read.

Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson, and the sheriff USC-fan claims has a hood pass should make it apparent that being black means nothing to the good ones

Like, just shoved him across the road. The kid didn’t seem to be doing anything but standing there, obviously had nothing in his hands

When [the deputy] asked him why he did that, he replied that he thought Chase was going to mug his wife and take her purse

On Oct. 21, Rochester City Court Judge Caroline Morrison sent a letter to the Colemans that shocked them: She had denied their warrant application, and MacDonald would not be charged for second-degree harassment.

Kid is doing nothing, man shoves the kid to the ground, police asks man why he did that, man says he did it because of his thoughts, judge is presented with all of this evidence, judge decides not to charge man.

Now, can someone tell me how the judgment makes sense?

I'd say it's expected. We aren't integrating people, we aren't educating people. It's no surprise people are racist assholes when they've grown up all their lives being allowed to live that way. It's no excuse, mind you, but it's not surprising.

I think the fact that people are surprised is part of the problem, because it perpetuates this as the "few bad apples" issue (which police LOVE to use) rather than a systemic one.

If he was scared for him and his wife's wellbeing then why didn't keep on driving? Justification of the foolishness makes no sense and any competent judge should have charged him wtf

This makes me pretty furious.

It's bad enough I have to deal with kids and even adults reprimanding my autistic son for not speaking to them, but if someone laid hands on him I'd burn that precinct to the ground if they weren't going to at least attempt some form of punishment on the person.

I hope the kid is able to give it another try.

Why is this asshole driving down the road during the middle of a 5K race in the first place?

Shouldn't the road be closed off to traffic?
