First downsampled 1080p screens from PS4 Pro (Titanfall 2)

no it won't

To get the most out of Pro, you're going to need a 4K HDR TV. Downsampling is cool and all but 4K + HDR is a leap in image quality.
Yeah the difference between 4Kinda and 1080p w/ downsampling won't be anywhere near as big as posts like this would imply. Yes games will look better on a 4K display. No it won't be a "leap" in image quality.

But it's not native 4K. It will look good but it won't be as sharp.
Where in 1080p screens you get a smooth IQ due that Downsampling AA.

HDR and Wide Color gamut should be independent but I dont think there are 1080p TVs with those settings.

My 1080p OLED supports wide color gamut.

Doesn't have to be native res to benefit. 1080p doesn't suddenly look worse because my TV got better, nevermind anything higher than that.

Looks good but not $300+ I'd have to spend to sell my PS4 and upgrade good for me sadly. That $500 cdn price price tag succks.

Same here, it would be a $300 upgrade here in Australia. It does look a bit better but not enough to justify the upgrade for me, also that I'm not planing to upgrade to 4k anytime soon either.

I was already ecstatic about the Pro, and this is making me even more hyped. This is only the beginning of the comparisons too, and we will quite likely have even more dramatic differences down the road.

This is exactly the kind of thing that people need to see to sell them on the Pro.

saw the screens on my ipad and was quite impressed. compared the screens on my 1080p OLED and said HOLY MOLY! if this looks as good in motion and will be the standard for all ps4 pro games... :O

You might need glasses. And I actually don't mean this in a snarky way, it's a really big difference in overall IQ, especially because the PS4 shots are not very good to begin with.

I had them checked on Oct 27th 2016. 20/20

Actually my right eye is stronger than 20 vision. Whatever that means.

But yeah, back on topic. I'm blind. I see no difference.

LG 9100? What a great TV... do you know if the wide color gamut is actually supported even if HDR is off? I mean the colors look great on this TV even without, but more is always better right? ;)

Woah, this is the type of shit Sony needed to show off. So many people think there's no reason to get a pro if you don't have a 4k tv. That looks really good. I"ll wait to see if gamestop or some store has a decent trade in program, i might jump.

I'm blind. I see no difference.

I can tell it looks sharper and it seems like the geometry of certain things is better (or it could just be the camera positioning), but it's not really blowing me away as much as it is others. Perhaps my eyes aren't as trained and I'll notice when I get it for myself next week, but yeah I can see that it's better.

I would like to see more direct comparisons in the same exact positioning.

Wow looks much better.
Finally 1080p gaming has arrived.
The checkerboard 4K really does a good job to downsample to 1080p.

I think the Pro will shine more with 1080p screens than 4K ones.

What? 4k screens need the increased quality way more. 900p upscaled to a 1080p looks acceptable. 900p or even 1080p upscaled to a large 4k TV looks bad. 1080p will get big benefits, but it will shine the most on 4k TVs still.

1080p will most likely look worse when upscaled instead of being displayed on a 1080p screen. Pretty much anything <4k will look crisper on a 1080p screen than a 4k screen.

Maybe you guys aren't zooming in. Does this help? These images are at 100% zoom. Look at the side of the crashed ship.

Ok.. thanks to the first post I quoted I know what I'm supposed to look for in the second post I quoted.

Meh...

It looks slightly sharper but does nothing for me. I'm not really a graphics person so there's no reason for me to upgrade. I'm happy for the euthsies who enjoys these types of upgrades though.

I took a PC screenshot at 1080p trying to get closer to the same spot, max settings:

Also took a screenshot at 1440p, which I personally can scale to 1080p, but you won't see this as I see it on my monitor (not downscaled). Note, I get a few rare drops below 60fps at this setting on a 1070:

Looks like the PS4 Pro version is somewhere between those but that's really impressive.

Render resolution is a little lower in PS4Pro looking at palm leaves. Shadow resolution for vegetation is very low in comparison

Distant shadows are not rendered. Ambient Occlusion seems missing too.
r2-02dxuri.gif

Lighting doesn't affect some assets a mid distance and vegetation lod is lower too
r2-01gkupi.gif

Little shadows are missing in the Titan too, I guess is because the lower shadow resolution

Overall is very good for a console.

Ok guys, I'm really not seeing the difference here, what should I be looking for?

Someone needs to setup a blind test like that 60fps vs 30fps video.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm about to buy a ticket for the #colinwasright train.

This is all wrong. 1080p scales perfectly to 4k. If anything, it looks smoother due to more pixels. Anything between 1080p and 4k will look better on a 4k screen, because you know, the 1080p screen doesn't have enough pixels to output that information.

That's not really true. You have to keep in mind that 4K TV pixels are really small. Something like 1800p will look outstanding on a 4K TV.

I haven't seen this for myself, but I would assume it's a bit blurrier than it would look on a 1080p screen. Perhaps it's not perceptible once you reach a certain amount of pixels.

A 1080p OLED will definitely look better with 1080p content than the same content on a 4k LCD screen.
