Battlefield 1 on PS4 Pro - Already improved framerate and resolution

On my regular HD set it does feel like native 1080P - tho the occasional dynamic res blip maybe indicates something different.

I still get resolution issues on my Pro 40Player operations. I guess the frame rate is more stable but I could be thinking that - honestly for me the differences are so minor that I feel like could just be imagining that it is different on the Pro. Really would like some official word on it aye.

are you talking about these images or BF1 on OG PS4? DF and other tech analysis say its max res on PS4 is 1000P

I'm talking about running BF1 on Pro via a 1080P set. Looks like a slight boost in res to me (and maybe a little cleaner), tho hard to know without counting lines. Could be higher again - I guess we'll have to wait and see.

ah ok. Yeah could be res boost and maybe better AA, my Pro is waiting on my doorstep right now, while I work. So I havent witnessed it first hand yet. I think according to Sonys guidelines they arent or shouldnt be able to supersample the MP portion of a game.

I have a suggestion to make that may sound stupid:

Check your PS4 Pro fan noise:

- On standard PS4 games the fan is almost completely silent for me (basically half GPU power is off)

- on PS4 Pro games it's much easier to hear it

How is Battlefield 1 in that regard?

The hyperbole of saying the game is awful on original PS4 really is something. It's more than playable.

I'd rather play the game with either fewer players (at 60fps) or locked 30fps (64 player modes) on the 2013 boxes. Some people tolerate wildly fluctuating framerates; others find it hard to stomach.

Um...I'm reinstalling BF1 on the pro and the drive is going nuts spinning up and down. What the hell is going on with this thing

Ok, looks like it finally stopped. Freaked me out for a minute because it was pulsing like a blender

With the increase in clarity the color banding is way more prominent (especially when the fog rolls in, like in Fao Fortress). I hope they implement the wider color gamut with the HDR update.

What's going on with few people saying there are no, or just minor differences.

The framerate difference is VERY obvious.
Playing 64 player conquest all day long, it feels very different from before.
It's really an enjoyable experience now. Before it was "playable" yes, but it was not really enjoyable when playing with 64 players.

So good now.
Perfect locked 60fps? No.
Much improved framerate, much closer to 60fps? Yes!

Wish i had equipment to measure the framerate. Would test the hell out of it, for you guys lol.

Edit: also did they changed something about weather stuff? Weather is changing way more often since yesterday. Even seeing weather conditions on maps which i did not experienced before, even after more than 50 hours playtime. Very cool. Nothing to do with the pro though

I've had a bash at Operations with 40 players.

It does feel smoother and I never noticed resolution jumps. If the resolution did change it was very, very subtle.

However, it did send my PS4 Pro in to overdrive and it's been spinning louder than my original PS4.

EDIT:

Yeah...see details above. It's definitely louder for me...and it was louder than when I played Battlefield 1 on my original PS4.

I guess it depends what type of PlayStation you had before. My regular one was very loud and this one I can't hear it even when playing battlefield

Took some shots for the guys over in the 1080 thread:

BF1 will probly be the game I get with my pro, how good does it look? If we're expecting a further patch what are the chances it'll be out before next Friday?

For sure...but this is the loudest I've experiences using a PlayStation console. Since I'm one of those guys that doesn't listen out for decibels this stands out too much for me.

I guess now I understand what Digital Foundry implied in their write-up.

For me at least, the pro has made a noticeable difference. The smoother experience that I'm having means I'm landing shots in a clutch situation that just wasn't possible on my ps4. As far as I see it, there's already a two-tier experience in BF1 on playstation.

I don't know about two-tier. I had no problems with battlefield when I was playing it on my regular PS4.

For me higher framerate isn't about being more competitive - it's about feeling a direct connection to the mechanics of the game - it's about immersion. Poor framerates break that bond and suck the enjoyment out of playing - enough so that I simply avoided 64 player modes in all BF titles prior to now. Here's hoping that we'll see improved perf for all platforms in the upcoming patch.

You're just flat out wrong here. I guarantee this game is running at 1440p or higher.

*waits for Digital Foundry vindication*

I don't think so.

Looks like a solid 1080 to me.

Titanfall 2 is 1440p and looks worlds cleaner. I also played the beta on my PC at both Native 4K and 1440p, and it looked cleaner then too.

I might be wrong, but I think this is 1080p with improved framerate.

Which I am A ok with, especially if they say 4K rendering(or upscaling from 1400/1800p) is coming soon.

Edit: well I may have spoke too soon. Playing it again now with fresh eyes and it does look really fuckigng crisp.

I'm not sure if they also added more, or better effects, or if they just pop more into your eyes, because of the improved framerate and resolution lol.
Digital Foundry, now! :)

Just had a chance to rip a game of Conquest and the resolution and framerate improvements are pretty obvious to me. Now if they could only patch BF4 and start publishing retro maps again :)

Have they mentioned any plans to go back and patch BF4? Gonna be all over BF1 for awhile, but it would still be nice!

Has anyones load times increased with the PS4 Pro and BF1? because my load times have still been hit or miss. Sometimes the game loads up fast and sometimes it takes forever.

It runs pretty solid in MP in all modes but Conquest, Dice can do a bit better for the PS4's overall performance however. The XB1 performs slightly better in SP, that should definitely be improved and Conquest fluctuating framerates deserves some attention, the XB1 version hold a bit better there too. So it appears that MS gave the XB1 a bit more love on this one.......

If you look at NXgamer's BF1 video, the Base PS4 version falls to 28fps towards the end of the video, neither that nor the fact that the XB1 performs better should be acceptable to PS4 owners. Dice has to patch this for better performance there.

The Pro support is cool, but I do expect a bit more in terms of better graphical settings, HDR support and even more optimization work on the Pro. I think they can improve the framerate even more here.

I updated my first post, as everything is confirmed now, thanks to Digital Foundry and VG Tech :)

Edit: Damn, just played some online matches with the HUD deactivated. I was simply stunned! The improved image quality really helps. Took some pictures and i am always stunned when watching them.

I mean the OG version of PS4. I remember people saying it improved over time.
It was borderline unplayable at launch, so yes, it improved dramatically. From memory, it was about four months before it was in an acceptable state. That was with respect to stability/functionality, rather than performance though.

It looked amazing maxed out on my PC when I played the beta.

It also looked amazing on the Pro hooked up to a 55'' 4K Bravia. I'm really happy with how it looks on a $400 console and I'm even kinda surprised by how good it looks on a $400 console. That said, it sure feels clunky as hell with a controller compared to KB/M.
