Douchebag. Yes, me.
10 FPS frame rates are due to online being enabled. Just played for 3 hours after disabling online in game and haven't gotten them.

The game is pretty fun so far, much better than the first. Being able to hack vehicles instantly to turn hard right when tapping L1 is a revelation for driving in open world games.

Just bought this digitally for Xbox One and can't pre-load it. It doesn't show up on my download queue and when I go to the Store it just says "you own this product" instead of the usual Install option.

I've been with Xbox Support for a while and these people are absolutely useless and will try everything expect giving me a refund. Am I totally fucked, GAF?

EDIT: I guess the first question should be, is pre-load up for you guys? Some sites say it is.

Even at high speeds? Just saw a video of someone on a motorcycle and the frame rate just looks like it shits the bed.

I wonder how playing the satirical Trump ribs will feel with hindsight and how far they went. Hope they don't patch that out now that he won. ;)

It felt a bit strange. But then again, it is only the name and slogan that feel Trumpish

There is a Obama-joke that felt weird so close after election day

what do you call a black man surrounded by white men? President

Played like 3 hours last night and fps only really dropped during a online event.

Playing on a normal PS4.

Also had no crashes yet. Might be a PSPRO thing?

Few more impressions on pro:
Not had a single crash or FPS drop so far. Online is enabled, played for about 3 hours.

Core mechanics are fun. Cops feel harder to shake than in GTA if there are a lot of them chasing you with helos but I suppose that balances out when you can hack helos to just fly away later in the game.

Customisation of weapons feels very limited. Compared to GTA V where you clan customise everything from paint jobs to mag size and even add stuff like silencers and laser sights - this lets you buy guns from the 3D printer and add new paint jobs. That's it. There may be more however as I'm still very early in the game. Can't see any mention of it yet though.

It doesn't look like there's any crafting system either which is unusual for a Ubisoft game! It very much feels like it's its own beast. Lacks a fair bit of the standard "Ubisoft open world game" stuff. Feels abit less crammed with filler guff and abit more tightly focused. The city is lovely but not as heavily populated as GTA V. Not nearly as big either.

It still boggles the mind how impressive GTA V was really when you think it was built for 360 and PS3. I don't know whether Rockstar are just streets ahead of everyone else (har har) when it comes to design and programming or whether other devs just don't think in the same way but WD 2's city doesn't feel nearly as big, busy or detailed as GTA V's does. This makes me feel extremely excited to see what R* could do if they built a new GTA specifically for these consoles!

Overall though I'm really enjoying it so far. Main missions are funny, fun and challenging - 2-3 clean shots can take you down and if you get spotted you die a lot faster than in GTA which encourages a more thoughtful, considered playstyle where you need to use your gadgets and carefully recce an area and make a clear plan.

One big change is that, at the moment anyway, all of my hacks that I can do on junction boxes and steam vents etc are non lethal and only last a limited amount of time. In WD1 you could totally clear entire areas just by getting into cameras and hacking electricity boxes and murdering everyone with them. In this, you have tools like proximity triggers which detonate the boxes when people get near, and you have manual triggers. You can also do stuff like set a proxy trigger then make the box make a distraction to attract people over to it.

However, as I said, these are non lethal and don't last forever. Guards can wake their friends up too. This means that even if you do hack junction boxes and take people out, you've only got a limited amount of time to get in and grab whatever you might need to grab / do. This does make the game a lot more challenging than the first which felt like abit of a cakewalk.

Looking forward to playing more.

Already preordered it on PS4.
It looks great on the video and just what I expect!
I hope when I get my copies I will still be the same thinking.

Impressions still got me excited, but am worried of big technical issues. Going to be playing on PS4 Pro, so hoping that if there is indeed a day 1 patch that hasn't rolled out for early buyers that many of these issues are smoothed over with the patch rollout.

If not, some of the issues don't sound like the issues are likely to be absolutely game breaking but perhaps very inconvenient, which would be a bit of a shame.

In any case, I liked the concept of open world hacker game, not because I like glorified depictions of hackers but because the theoretical options for manipulating the world are kind of exciting. The original came off as a strictly mediocre game to me -- it didn't feel like the anything was outright broken in the game, but nothing at all felt exceptional, and the story and characters felt relatively subpar. Marketing for Watch Dogs 2 is certainly building a much more relateable scenario for me, and San Francisco seems like a far better setting than Chicago, and I'm glad to say that a lot of pre-release gameplay media has given me a solid impression of the game living up to my expectations for the most part.

Some screenshots from PS4 Pro. These were taken at 4k res but running on my 1080p TV. Not sure how that works but hey. Should I set it to take 1080p screens? Right click, open in new tab for glorious big size.

***EDIT***
I think I need to set it to take screens at 1920 X 1080. Seeing as this is the res it's running games at, these might look less good when viewed at full 4k. Just open in new tab and view without enlarging to full size. I'll take more later at proper 1080p.

I look bloody FABULOUS.

Not sure but these look very jaggy and at 4K res.

Yeah it looks much, MUCH sharper than this on my TV. I'll take some more later using PS4's 1080p screengrab mode - you can choose in settings between captures at 1920 X 1080 and full 4k. Seeing as I've got a 1080p TV the game probably isn't running in "4k mode" so I expect it's taking the 1080p image I've got (downsampled or not) and then stretching it to 4k size, which probably accounts for the poor quality.

I'll do some more fiddling about.

You should link to those not quote them, they're huge. Thanks for sharing them though.

Honestly Ubi have crafted a killer game here. Can't wait to play online when my buddy gets the game. Hope the seamless online stuff is fixed by launch as that seems like it'd add a ton to the experience. It's a super fun game with a really well made world to mess about in. Huge leap from the first.

I noticed this is on Steam. I kinda want to play it on PC, but I'm nervous it's going to want me to install Uplay. Can anyone explain to me how Uplay ties in? I'll pass if I have to install it.

So enemies can wake up from KO's and stun gun shots, which makes things quite interesting because you have yo plan in advance and move fast.

Also made me abandon my no-kill playstyle because I got caught too often after people woke up and called in an alert. Random security guards, policemen and the likes get tazed, but gang members just get a bullet in the head. IT'S DEDSEC, BITCH!

Another PS4 Pro pic. Wish we could get some kind of info on what that 1.02 patch actually did.

Disclaimer: This might NOT be the pro enabled version.

One thing I don't like so far is that there doesn't seem to be much variation in enemy types. What I mean by this is that there's little to differentiate gang members from security guards. The AI also suffers from that hyper aggressive GTA thing.

A good example of this came on a mission on a movie set. There were guards patrolling as well as actors etc, however when I got spotted sneaking around outside the big warehouse where the set actually was they started blazing away immediately. There was no Hitman style "you're not supposed to be here sir" - they just pulled guns and opened up. These aren't military police, nor are they corporation thugs / mercs. They're just regular security guards on a film set. It gets worse. I was crouched behind a lorry in the car park (I had my gun out now, by this time I'd abandoned trying to stun them - they'd shot at me so I'm shooting back!) and they started THROWING HAND GRENADES AT ME. Security guards. On a film set. Chucking hand grenades around a car park which was still full of cowering cleaners and random movie extras. One poor civillian contractor got blown to bits.

Now I'm all for having aggressive AI, and soldiers / heavily armed mercenaries / gang members should be able to flush you out with grenades. However security guards on a film set should not be throwing hand grenades around busy car parks. That actually irritated me because it felt very out of place. I know it's not shooting for realism, but they still need to have some degree of plausibility in the world and the systems. It would have been much better if, upon hearing shots or seeing someone get KO'd by a taser, they just called the police. That would have made it much more real - they could put up a fight and hold you off until a squad car arrives to back them up. Then the police start looking for you as well.

That would have added more tension I think than just arming all the security guards with grenades. It's even more laughable when you profile the guards with your phone - you can see how they're just "dave", married with a mortgage and 2 kids. Yet here they are on a movie set hurling grenades about like they're in Basra. The police didn't even turn up - there was no wanted level or anything despite world war 3 breaking out in the car park; with grenades, bullets and bodies flying about all over the place!

Still a great game though!

I'm buying either this or Mafia 3 next week.
Interested to see how it reviews!

Mafia 3 is great IMO but W_D 2 is looking a lot stronger.

Only go for Mafia 3 if you're really in the mood to deal with some gameplay slog to reach HBO-quality story. The gunplay and stealth is great it's just badly paced, there's too much of it.

Also get it if soundtrack is important to you. Mafia 3 has probably the best soundtrack ever in a game to date. It's honestly unbelievable, so much of their budget must have gone into it.

Never understand not playing a game because it's on a platform that is believed to be pure evil.
Uplay and all the others work fine for me and I've enjoyed many Uplay games.

Agreed. I've had plenty of good times with UPlay and Origin.

Some screenshots from PS4 Pro. Game is running in 1080p. Again, not 100% sure whether the 1.02 patch that the game is running on is actually the PS4 pro optimised version.

I'm also playing on a Pro on a 1080p set. Do you have your capture settings as PNG and 1080p or 4K captures?

PNG 1080p. I found the 4k captures looked bad when viewd at full 4k. Really stretched and way more blurry than on my screen. I suppose I could use 4k capture then resize to 1080p...

Do you know if 1080p captures show the supersampling benefits of using a Pro on a 1080p set?
