UK: PS4 sales triple thanks to PS4 launch

Percentages don't really mean much in isolation, but slim and any remaining OGs keeping steady does suggest it's a decent but not mind-blowing number. We're expecting slim to get a discount later in the month and for it to stick?

There's likely a good number of used OG consoles in new hands as there was when people traded up to the S. Right now Microsoft themselves are competing at used prices with their £180 units bundled with really good games - so tempting.

This is going to motivate Sony to release a new Playstation every 2 to 3 years in the future right?

If and when they do it, it won't be some arbitrary x-years figure, it'll be when a suitable level of performance increase becomes possible, with tangible results, at the £350 price point or equivalent.

I imagine we will get mobile cycles. Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One Pro, Xbox One ProPlus etc.

That's a lot of xboxes for Sony to put out... :D

MS slashed the xbone price for 70 pounds? They are going to take a beating in the financial report for this holiday quarter if they continue like this.

That infinite war chest.
Joke aside, MS is ruthless when they meant it, don't know how long Sony can keep up with this price war.

They already said in their guidance that they're forecasting less console and revenue sales YOY for the holidays.

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
When I was picking up my pre-order, the manager of the Gamestop mentioned that they got 32 in and every one of them had been pre-ordered weeks before hand.

I was a little surprised actually.

They were?

I think you're missing the joke here mate

A few interesting notes.
PS4 Slim sales still grew 8.5% week on week so the Pro and Slim are clearly selling to different audiences.
Xbox was outsold by 44% over the week although its sales still spiked by 85% week on week thanks to a huge promotion that slashed the Xbox One bundles price (non S models) from 249£ to 179£

Edit: I missed a Pro in the title LOL

179 for the xbox one is great.

Uhm...let's see if i can grab one from Italy :D

These sales look bad for a new console. PS4+PS4 Pro only outsales Xbox ONE by 44% on its launch?
Haven't pre orders been open for a couple of months, kind of shoots down the lousy theory of people waiting for pro as an excuse for the slims lack of impact

So as a pointless and really rough guess, the lead xbox one had over ps4 in September + October in the UK, approx 25k total, has likely been cancelled out and reversed with the Pro launch leaving something like a 10k lead at this point Sept + Oct + early Nov.

It's a matter of context xbox one sales themselves almost doubled. You could buy a £180 xbox one with a number of really good games last week (FH3, Gears, etc).

Pretty sure this was expected in the initial month(s) of sale. There is a real demand for higher end hardware (and 4K TV's by extension), the sales of both Pro and Scorpio will hopefully reflect that.

Will be interesting to see if xbox can take the lead back next week, I mean it was pretty much a given that the pro launch would put them over the top, however, I'd like to know if the pro has legs or if all the enthusiasts got theirs at launch.

I think all this aggressive posture from MS only made XBO sell a little more than PS4 in all those winning months. So, we had the better momentum of XBO since ever and the worst situation of PS4.

We all knew PS4 was selling less than it could cause of the Pro, but now that all pieces are on the table both will sell really well. Sony will sell more and won't need to burn money.

That only means Microsoft did well to counter PS4 Pro launch, honestly.

So that's the conclusion you come to along with the ps4 numbers looking bad?

That's one way to read into the statistics I guess...

Do you care to elaborate as to why you feel the ps4 numbers look bad based on the data we have at the moment?

Bu....but.... that missing 4K Blu-Ray disc-drive! Sony am doomed!!

Nobody said that, the said that Sony is a dick for not including one as the costs would have been minimal.

I have a Pro, but only a 1080P TV (trade in deals at EBGames Canada are amazing atm for a Pro) so I think it is a nice machine but no real WOW factor yet for me.

Glad tha it looks like it is selling well, multuple EBGames in my city still had units this weekend which I found odd for a "new" console release

As expected.

The MS numbers are also mad, but considering you could get a Xbone with 2 games for £200, its hardly a surprise!

Does it mean much when PS4 sales began to crawl through the months?

it matters because it outsold XB1 at firesale, and XB1 has record sales in UK right now.

Its gonna sell even better at holidays run, as more and more "compatible" games come out, and people realize new games have much better performance (COD, etc).

I already did, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro sales combined only three times higher than PS4 Slim the week before looks bad for a new console launch.

Xbox sold almost 11 times better with Xbox ONE S launch, and it is just a revision of Xbox ONE.

Completely different situation.
11 times over close to zero sales is way different from 3 times strong PS4 sales during COD launch week.

And what were the sales figures looking like prior to the xbox one S launch? I'm talking about raw numbers here not percentages.

And PS4 sold almost 200 times better with PS4 Slim launch, 11 times look bad for a revision.

PS4 Pro is the slowest selling console ever before the launch of the PS4 pro. In all seriousness, expected. Fantastic console, rightly priced.
