beer that you can buy at a gas station/store.

Continuing my evolution as I never really drank alcohol before, except some wine at a hotel once(did not like it )

If I want to have a good time at a bar, I need to know what I like and to do that I have to actually like drinking.

So what should I buy that would actually be a good beer for a first-time drinker?

Stella Atrois goes down easy. If you want something cheaper try Bud Select.

edit: ^ Blue Moon is a good one if you want something sweet

As an avid beer drinker. You probably won't like it the first time you drink it. Regardless of how good it is.

Personally I would recommend pilsner urquell ...
Edit:sorry ... missed the gas station comment. Go for bud light; it's close to the taste of water

Radler or a fruit beer. Then probably a brown beer, weizen beer, lager and end with IPA or stout depending on what you prefer.

Depends on where you live as far as the gas station part; they have good craft beer at most gas stations here.

Guessing you mean cheap big brewery beer; you really just have to try a few for yourself. Been a long time since I drank beer of that caliber but I would buy MGD a lot for some reason when I was a teenager.

Or look for a shandy.

Honestly, most beer tastes somewhere between bad and awful when you first try it out. It just doesn't taste anything like any non-alcoholic drink, and not in a good way. Some people warm up to the taste later, but it hasn't happened for me. I just slowly gravitated towards beers that I can tolerate more.

Having said all that, maybe try out Bud Lime, or maybe Rickard's Red. I found that those taste okay.

Yes, Radlers are a good place to start too. Those are part juice and part beer, so it doesn't at least taste completely different from anything you've drank before. It also has lower alcohol content because of it.

I thought that I didn't like any kinds of beer until a couple years ago. The problem ended up being that I had only ever tried the cheap piss my parents drink.

I drank a lot of cider and kind of edged my way closer to beer over time. At Toronto-GAF meetups I ended up trying Rickard's Red and actually liked it, from there I just ended up grabbing a whole bunch of different single cans at the beer store each visit and narrowing down what I liked over time. Trying a lot of different beers is the most fun part of drinking beer IMO.

Blue Moon? It's going to be sweeter than most things you can buy cheap.

All solid advice.

Hard to say since it's a matter of personal preference. Also where do you live?

Does your gas station stock any of those? I'd also recommend Shocktop, very wheaty...like drinking a loaf of bread.

IMO I'd stay away from stuff like bud light and nattty light and any IPAs. Coors light is pretty much the only basic gas station beer I'll touch and even then, I don't like it a lot.

Any beer with a lemon taste or other fruit taste in it. I honestly still don't like normal pure beer but beer with a bit of a fruit taste mixed with it tastes great imo.

Strange though because i do like pure vodka and thats way more alcohol. Must be the taste i don't like of normal beer then.

First time you don't know good from bad and you don't have a preferred taste yet so it doesn't matter.

Get some Stella

It took me 1/2 a decade of drinking beer before I started to like the taste of beer.

But just go to a bar/pub and just ask for whatever they have on tap, or tell your friend to get you one of w/e they're having.

Drinking beer alone does not sound like a fun time, allow it.

Bud Light

It's probably the most inoffensive beer with the widest appeal.

Once you get a handle on that, you can branch off into other various types.

Recommending Blue Moon as well. Even if you don't want to go for something sweet the default pale ale is pretty light and doesn't have as strong or as off-putting a flavor as the darker stuff.

Start off with two tall boys of Steel Reserve. If you survive the night, your beer adventure is all up hill from there.

Ayinger Celebrator, or some sort of framboise, or some sort of wheat beer/hefeweizen.

NOT cheap ass American lager (bud light, anything "ice", high life, etc). This is why everyone hates beer at first.
