Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 |OT| Just in Time for Super

Just confirming: First post says the game is playable in offline mode. Is this worth playing through and maybe screwing around with friends on PS4 if I don't have PS+? No interest in paying for that service, but I want to make sure I'm still getting something functional for my money. Also, just realized I should probably ask: does this have offline multiplayer? (I really feel like I shouldn't have to ask that, but I'm guessing it's relevant to always ask these days...)

All the multiplayer aspects are "simulated" in offline ways if you don't have PSplus.

Obviously, the IA is a bit stupid most times, but almost all the content is accessible offline.

It has a local multiplayer, that is somewhat limited, as they had to make sure the camera would remain viable for two players, so limited number of maps, and the gameplay is a little tweaked to accommodate for it.

If you have never played Xenoverse 1 I asbolutely recommend XV 2.

And the ps4 version holds up pretty well, just make sure to turn the "brightness" in the options to the maximum, it's actually the contrast and it makes the game a million times prettier.

Awesome, thanks! I went ahead and jumped on Best Buy's Black Friday deal, so here's hoping it works for me, then!

Hello guys

just played the expert mission 14 & 15.

It's bullshit
I have nothing else to add.

Just straight bullshit.especially mission 15. Those" repel the Ki blasts" moments were either buggued or the difficulty is insane.

15 is complete ass garbage. Look up one of the methods to beating it on Youtube. You can either equip your character with specific moves or just use Supervillain Cooler.

I just wish they would have made it so that everybody gets completion for expert missions.

Cause it's impossible to make a team without inviting friends at this point :/ .

The fact that so many people want it means it's probably a shoo-in for XV3 (assuming they can't add it in a patch down the line).

I'm surprised by how much they're adding to the game for free. I know they said they'd do it, but I didn't think it'd be this much content (easily enough to match the DLC for the first game, for zero additional charge?). I look forward to seeing the patch notes when it's released. Should be nice and lengthy.

Hello ,
i've done all the tests and done all the availables mentors , finished the story ( saw the 2 extra battles ), yet i'm missing 2 . I've also done the extra test where you need a Z rank in all others ...

What am i missing here ? how can i unlock the last 2 mentors ?

Beerus is at the roof of orange high and Broly is flying around the top of the time machine station. These were the last ones for me personally.

I hope by next-gen we can get cutscene quality graphics in real time. The F. Trunks scene where he finds Gohan dead and turns into a Super Saiyan looked amazing.

The shortcomings of the XV engine has nothing to do with this current gen.

It's because they started development on ps3 and are aiming to have locked 60 fps for 6 players at a time. They were not gonna remake the engine and the assets sadly.

But if they made another DBZ game focused on 1 v 1, it could look far better than the cutscenes of XV 2, in game :p .

A big part of it is just that GGXrd can use a lot of tricks with the lighting and shadowing that you can't really get away with in a game where you control the camera angles and the stages are fully 3D (as in 3D movement, obviously Xrd has 3D background models).

But it's also because Dimps went for this peculiar "soft" style of shading that makes things look really kinda smeared. The assets themselves are mostly pretty good.

See the cel-shaded mod for example:
And these are low quality artifact-ridden .jpgs with no downsampling!

So you know they could pull off that particular look if they wanted to. The director just... doesn't, for some reason (no accounting for taste, I guess). Them's the breaks, eh?

It does make me wonder what Bamco and Dimps' long-term goals are for XV.

Is "Team Play" that vaunted a feature, such that Dimps can't feasibly go back to making a tighter 1v1 Dragonball console experience, ever again? Can't we just give Zenkai Battle Royale a console port (at long last) instead, and let Dimps focus on bringing back the "spectacle" elements that we're missing, like beam battles and better environmental destruction, along with further improvements to the XV combat engine?

How's the playerbase for this on PS4? I just traded in my old controller at Gamestop and got the PS4 version for free, but I'm also still waiting on the PC version to get patched. Are there still a healthy amount of people doing online PvE? The playerbase is dying on PC because it's been almost a month without a single patch, but if it's significantly better on PS4, I wouldn't mind starting over.

Lately, I've been getting this weird glitch where the game (PC version) randomly jumps to some sort of windowed mode at random. Really annoying when it happens during a fight. Hoping they can patch it out...

Damn that looks great. I should be meeting the Bandai team soon for something unrelated, but I'll show them those screenshots, can you downsample the game and take more characters ? The heroes if possible and do a comparison shot with existing graphics ? Do you know if the game runs better, worse, or identical with those graphics ?

That being said, you're wrong about Guilty Gear.

They released a mode where you can freely move the camera, change the lightning, in real time, and the characters look perfect in all situations.

The only thing you couldn't do with that technique is dynamic lightning, you'd have to set spots and pre baked stuff. But first of all, lots of games do that anyway, but for Animes it's not like it's a problem since you can get away with very few variants.

The trick they used is that they mimic 24 FPS with a limited animation, 60 FPS instantly looks jarring and 3d-ish. I guess that's where it would fail, but maybe they can refine the process ! (but even their full animation graphics look better than any other cell shading, that has to be pointed out)

The ps4 community is pretty active. The most active out of the 3 platforms.

But the PVE is fucked up because of the non completion system, that being said you can make friends easily there and ask for help.

Thinking about getting this during Black Friday for the $25 price tag.

I enjoyed the Budokai's and Burst Limit as well as a few of the handheld Dragon Ball games. Would I enjoy this?

This is completely different.

But at that price, absolutely.

Especially since you didn't get the first XV.

Think about maxing out the brightness if you're on console, it boosts the colors and makes the game look a ton better.

How are the controls? I was tempted to get XV 1 a few times but figured I'd wait on this title. When you say different, how?

I will be looking at the PS4 version. Never got the beta to work for me earlier this year sadly. Had hoped to try the game then.

It's a 3d game, not a fighting game on a 2D plane.

You have a hub city that you can explore, where you get missions, story chapters, pvp etc...

It's also has team based battles, you get to create your own character in this, get new skills, costumes etc...

As for the controls, you have a "free" way to move around, 360 degrees. You have long ranged attacks, and melee, they improved the combo system a ton compared to XV1.

XV1 was a terrible game IMO, it was ugly, ran like crap, the gameplay was shallow and messy. Good thing you skipped it.

XV2 on ps4 is a really solid game, they improved the graphics (remember the brightness thing, mandatory), 60 fps, no input delay, deeper combat system, bigger city etc...

Ps4 version also has the widest player base so you'll find people to play with easily.

Honestly, at 25 bucks, if you like Dragon Ball, I think you shouldn't hesitate a single second.

I think it was worth it at full price, but here, at that price it's a steal.

So 1.03 came out for PC today, but it didn't include any of the intended fixes. There's no word on when this will be fixed, so the morale on the PC side is obviously rock bottom right now. I went ahead and got this on PS4 since I'm tired of waiting, and the prospect of waiting even longer is worse. If you're on the fence, now's the time to "upgrade" to the console version. With the holidays on the horizon, it might take even longer for this to be addressed.

I might ask someone to help me get my previous progress back on console. Luckily I was only 14 hours in.

I was fighting it all week, but I think I'm going to grab a PS4 copy too. No sale on the PC side in sight, and I won't lose a ton not transferring my save. That and some speedier load times aren't worth the extra $25.

Thanks for the info about the game! Been debating it. Glad to hear skipping XV1 was a good decision.

I am a big DBZ and Super fan. Hearing that solidifies it for me.

Also, neat to see paid and free DLC.

Does XV2 handle strike ultimates better? I was desperate to find some at all in XV, much less find ones I liked. Shoulda looked into that before deciding on my build.

Then blue hurricane trivialized most of the game from that moment on.

Not very well, unfortunately. Justice Combination is really good and compares well with the best of the Ki ultimates. It's not the most powerful ultimate, but it's probably the easiest ultimate to combo into in the game.

The other strike ultimates simply don't compare however. They're either very difficult to use effectively, or have very poor Ki to damage ratios, or both. Pretty much all of them are outperformed by Justice Combination.

Edit: On the plus side, hybrid builds, while not optimal, are more viable in X2. My female Majin uses both Justice Combination and Mystic Flash, and the later still does decent damage

The PC patch DID include most of the fixes. It's just that Bamco QA failed to test the giant ki blast fix properly and they still go out of bounds. They did, however, fix the issue with ki blasts disappearing upon spawning where a player character is located, so they're making progress on that front.

x20 Kaioken Kamehameha being broken is a problem shared with the console versions, so that's nothing new.

That's interesting to learn about GGXrd's visuals. I already knew about the frame rate matter, but personally I think that 3D CG should always be at as high a frame rate as they can manage, but with decent motion blur so it doesn't look jarringly artificial (there's a reason 2D animators use smearing so liberally in trying to convey motion). The motion blur in XV2 is rudimentary at best - it just seems to generically blur everything based on the current velocity, rather than true object-based motion blur.

I haven't installed the mod myself - those screenshots came from the mod's description page. I suppose I can install the mod anyway just to see for myself.

To my knowledge, the game runs exactly the same with the mod because all the mod actually does is change the shading texture for every character: every character has a texture map denoting what color they have for highlights, shadows, and midtones, and the reason they appear "soft" is because they have soft gradations in that texture - simply sharpening those gradations is enough to create the effect you see in those screenshots.

I'll mess around with the mod and see if I can provide the screenshots you want. I'll note that the mod does not currently affect CAC models, only the official characters. This is simply because the workload for altering all of their textures is a literal order of magnitude greater than doing so for the official characters, so unsurprisingly, modders just don't put in the work. Unfortunate, but them's the breaks (and this is the reason I haven't installed the mod yet - I don't like the idea of having two different shading styles on characters in the same game).

Edit: Here's an album. Screenshots cropped and downsampled from 4k resolution shots. Will this work for your purposes?

Checked out another cel-shading mod that uses colors accurate to the full-color manga, and it looks incredible. See for yourself:
Only a small handful of characters have been completed, but it's pretty clear to me that this guy has a great eye for detail and will probably produce the best of the full cel-shading mods. He plans on releasing a full replacement pack in the future, which I am REALLY looking forward to right now.

If Dimps could do this style for XV3, that'd be friggin' brilliant. Would love to see my CAC done like this.

That was one of the most requested things for XV2, but they ignored it.
More like they prioritized other things first. They did address stats for clothes, RNG for drops and ultimate finishes, added a transformation slot and revamped transformations, heavily revamped the combat, and added an equalized PvP mode, among other fan-requested changes that likely superseded colorable ki blasts and auras.

XV3 is supposedly going to receive considerably more dev time than either 1 or 2 received, so expect some even bigger changes for that. They've got a really good gameplay foundation down, and all they need to do is add in the remaining things players want.

What do you mean by direct sequel? It looks like kind of exactly the same missions.

Its a sequel, the story is different and continues from what's established in the first game but the premise is the same, fixing timelines etc. As such X2 covers some of the same base story elements as X1 and covers famous arcs and fights.

The new features (raids, events, characters etc) and the massive technical and functional improvements over X1 stand out more than the story.

An expanded story this also allows for more PQs which also have more variety due to new characters & scenarios.

Local play is also a lot better this time around.

Hope that helps.

If you're worried about missing story from the 1st game you can just YouTube it, its completely skippable though. This isn't a story focused game as much as it is a massive fan service dump.

I just actually bought both since they were cheap and playing through the first one now so I was just wondering how different they are. People in another thread said it was still worth playing the first one so I'm going through that now.

Ah Okay cool have fun! You might experience a little burnout if you play them back to back to completion, but I think you can jump straight to X2 once you have completed X1s main story.

Looks great, is there any Hero released yet ? Like Trunks or Goku ? It's easier to see on humans.
