Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

What time do we think it'll be shown, based on the video shown 2 years ago?

Last time it was kind of a big deal, so it was left for near the end.
This year I dunno. They know a lot of people will tune in for the trailer/info, but it depends on the caliber of what other game announcements they have.

If they have some other big announcement, then they'll probably leave that for near the end and show BotW near the start or middle. If not, then expect the BotW stuff for near the end then.

They could show off a new gameplay mechanic. Maybe something dungeons or towns related?

New trailer would be nice, as well.

I think it's too early for a release date.

This is actually the exact time to reveal the release not being at March with the switch launch. You want to get that news out there now, and get the backlash over with and they will let the next month calm people down so when it's show again at the switch even in January the attention is on the switch, it's launch line up, and zelda, not the perceived delay

Not saying we get an exact date, but I'm very confident we will get a month "June 2017", just hoping it's not "fall 2017"

Maybe the timestones from Skyward Sword could make a return? You could go on a quest to find a timestone and place it in the middle of a ruined town and create a time bubble around it so that the town goes back to its original state, for as long as the timestone is active.

Yeah I was thinking of that also in a previous post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=219357887&postcount=6361

But I think this time it is more about revival as opposed to time travel. Similar concept but not exactly the same, Although it is unclear how they could differentiate one from the other. Perhaps the ending goal is to revive the entire Hyrule. At the end the entire game world a alive and happy and this is your reward. A celebratory Hyrule that is interactive and aware of it's return from the dead. So there is an arc. The game starts quiet and silent and as you progress the world around your starts to sort of brighten and ignite based on your actions and successes. It's like trying to reverse a curse. Hyrule Castle under Calamity Gannon's rule looks as if poisoned or cursed.

Definitely. Anybody expecting a date will end up in tears and rage.

Also not gonna be anywhere near fall. Don't be crazy :D
We will see soon I guess. This is likely the last we will see it before the switch event, and I just can't see them remotely chancing bad news there. If they don't show a general date aka month then I think it has a better chance of making the switch launch then being may or June despite what good sources are saying. It would go against the basics of how to handle PR to not show a month window here but then come out of the switch event to the backlash of it not making launch.

For the record I don't think it will be fall/holiday but there is definitely an business argument for pushing it there if not ready for march.

Outside of GAF, nobody expects Zelda to launch alongside Switch. Nintendo refer to the game as a 2017 title. If anything, announcing a Summer release date at the January event will alleviate fears of the game being pushed to the Holidays.

I don't think Fall is totally out of the question. Latest rumor from a good source said June but the one before that said several months after Switch releases. But I do think June is likeliest at this point.

Someone on Reddit has a theory that only the European version of BotW is going to miss the Switch launch since they have to do a lot more work on localization (something like 5 languages vs. 1 for NA and 1 for JP), and that Laura Dale/Emily Rogers/Eurogamer pretty clearly have their Nintendo source at NoE, so they may not know NoA/NCL's plans.

Sounds a bit like wishful thinking but who knows. I really doubt they wouldn't do a global simultaneous release especially if the Switch is region free as rumored.

Also the localizaiton delay is really making me think this will have a lot more story/NPCs than people think. Either that or there is just that much text for all the item descriptions. Which would be a lot of different items.

it wouldn't take longer for NoE to localize in any case, since there is not one team doing all translations, it's several teams doing one each.

localization is easy to parallelize

Yup and that's how they've always worked anyway. Send that theory to the trash bin :D

I think this is new- http://www.zelda.com/breath-of-the-wild/

An official BotW teaser site complete with trailers, screenshots, new blurbs like:

Shrines dot the landscape, waiting to be discovered in any order you want. Search for them in various ways, and solve a variety of puzzles inside. Work your way through the traps and devices inside to earn special items and other rewards that will help you on your adventure.

I'll look around to see if there's any more new info here.

Edit:
This is nice to read, though not really all that new for Zelda:

The world is inhabited with enemies of all shapes and sizes. Each one has its own attack method and weaponry, so you must think quickly and develop the right strategies to defeat them.

Edit2:

Pre-order page still just says "2017" if anyone was wondering!

I'm really hoping a key theme of this game is the resurrection of Hyrule.

If that is one of the main themes of the game, my #1 hope is that the overworld music changes gradually from the "open air" themes we've heard in the E3 to a more traditional Zelda-type theme as more of the world gets revived.

No bald cap? Lies!
I'm really hoping a key theme of this game is the resurrection of Hyrule.

I really really hope it is resurrection in the practical sense of restoration and not like magical stuff which we've seen a good deal in the past and plenty of times in other games like Okami.

I would love to see lots of smaller settlements and towns where we have to help the people actually rebuild. Have an outside "dungeon" of an old town like Hidden Village in TP, but it actually becomes something after. Wipe out the enemies and help the towns people move back in and rebuild. I love seeing gradual improvements and changes occur in the world.

Go to another location and the town is in the dumps because the river is stopped up or a lava flow has cut off access to some area.

I really don't want to have to lift some magical curse on some phantom town every time like TP. I want to interact with these NPCs and get some of that Majora's Mask type interaction with them.

There are towns. Plural. That fake rumor was debunked the very same day it appeared and Bill/Aonuma has said explicitly that there are towns. PLURAL.

Yes, I'm aware. Read the context, though.

I know the game has towns, I'm saying that if it DIDN'T, I wouldn't have been terribly surprised. It would fit very well into the frequently referenced design aesthetic of the first game.

Ok, I guess this is where I stay on the hype train but don't get off at new footage station.

Before E3, I was planning to watch the trailer only but not any of the additional footage. Then curiosity + cognitive dissonance about the new hunting mechanics compelled me to watch a ton of Treehouse footage, which kindly was almost entirely GP only. I think I skipped (or at least skipped around) or didn't pay attention to the Shrines I saw because I didn't want to be spoiled on puzzle solutions, but even if I'm misremembering that I don't think I will remember any such solutions by the time I get to play the game. Anyway, these days even if it's tempting not to I really do try to avoid everything beyond the initial trailer, so while I don't regret seeing the treehouse footage we've seemingly seen so little of the game that I feel like I can go on blackout now and still have a lot unspoiled. So, hopefully thread titles or website article headlines won't be terribly too spoilery.

If they release a demo, I will have to strongly consider not playing it. I want the experience to be as fresh as possible day one. It is tough to wait knowing a demo exists, though. That's going to be difficult.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy footage (and demo if that's a thing, though it seems unlikely to me) and new information and speculation in the meantime. See you all next year for BOTW. :)

Can't load the site properly. Tried on 4 browsers. Zelda logo just keeps on sliding from the top and that's it.

French localization in Canada and France isn't the same for Zelda games.
While they're the same language, they are handled by two different teams, with scripts and names differences.

Either way it would be very odd for this game in particular to have a staggered release due to localization issues when that doesn't happen much for other games.

I just tried on chrome and it worked fine. I tried earlier on my phone and saw the same thing as you though, so I'd recommend using a non-mobile browser.

Given how tightly linked the design of this game feels to the original, I wouldn't have been terribly surprised if there were no towns. Wouldn't have been bothered, either, it's okay for Zelda games to be different from one another.

...with that said, I'm very excited to see what forms towns will be taking. Maybe just small little outposts in the style of MGSV: The Phantom Pain?

I would okay if they continued to take a page from Zelda I and instead of towns, there were caves hidden throughout the world with rudimentary shops and maybe like the above poster said, you revert the plateau or hyrule castle back in time to acquire the really good gear from the flourising castle town.

Oh god, could you imagine if one of the runes was a fucking TIMESHIFT STONE??

Theoretical mind blown!!

What if the all important sheikha arrow had time shifting abilities as a secondary function?

Gameplay demo looks like they're making all the right decisions with sidequest, enemy and level design. All that equipment looks slick, the music is of course wonderful and the game has so much of that Zelda charm. I'm only disappointed with graphical performance, but I really do think the Switch version will run much smoother.

This. Canadian French is quite different from France French, just like US English is different from UK English. It's good that Nintendo puts in work that acknowledges this!

Has anyone gotten a message from Amazon concerning pre-orders? I mean a message like this:

Hello,

We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on August 07, 2016 (Order# [Numbers]). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild"
Estimated arrival date: April 06, 2017 - April 08, 2017

I spotted this on PennyArcade forums, and started wondering if this is a real deal? Apparently poster has the Wii U version ordered.

Wasn't there some rumour that LoZ is delayed? Isn't this kind of a counter to that rumour?

amazon release dates are never an indicator for anything.

Ah. But why would they write like that? Is someone just guessing and they're covering their asses if LoZ won't come at launch? But isn't Switch launch still up in the air too? March, was it?

Amazon release estimates for unreleased games are often complete gibberish. They've told me all kinds of absurd dates that would never be true. For every time that Amazon actually does leak a launch date, there are tons of examples of false info. I have no idea how those messages and dates are generated, but it's just better to ignore them.

BotW has been delayed a few times, but it was never announced to be a Switch launch title. All we've been told is 2017. The most recent rumor I've seen is June 2017, but I think another "insider" with a track record disputed that and said it'd be ready for launch? I can't remember. Just wait a month for the reveal event.

Switch launch has been March 2017 since earlier this year, and no signs have been given that that is changing. The reveal event is in mid-January, so that would be the last chance to announce a delay. But the chances of that happening so close to launch seem extremely, extremely slim (unless it was only by a couple weeks to manufacture more before launch). But they've given no sign of that being the case.

just to add on to this, they were still saying March just a couple of days ago when Reggie was on Jimmy Fallon. Far as we know, that's still the month.

This isn't about a Switch delay, it's about a date for Zelda. Which people were just always assuming would be a Switch launch game so anything that isn't March is a delay to those people.

Switch not launching in March was never a question.

Yeah, nevermind then. Didn't know that about Amazon, never used it much.

And the Switch is absolutely coming in March, didn't remember if they set a date for it already. January 12th (13th) then, we will find out yes. Both dates I wager. Not the edible ones, I hope.

English is hard sometimes. Never drink and write English.
