The Last of Us Part II announced

peeps have been saying this about Sully in Uncharted since the first game. And yet... xD

Joel ain't going anywhere. Especially after the fakeout in the first game.

Yeah but it's a different type of game. If it were Uncharted I'd expect Joel and Ellie to live, be fine and move on ok.

But this is The Last of Us. I cannot see Joel alive at the end of this game lmao. Ellie's already pissed and she's gonna get even more pissed before it ends so the only thing I can think of is Joel dying or....get this...her kid. Say she has a kid and the kid gets killed. LAWD.

Somebody else close to Ellie is dying. We just don't know who lol.

60fps day one please. TLOU was so much better to play when they released the remaster.

Originally I didn't want a sequel but hell, I'm there for Part II.

That was way too early too show.

I hope they don't rush this game and give it enough time to implement big improvements.

People's expectations are through the roof with this one.

Of course, it's The Last of Us. But I'm glad Layden expressed that it's very early in development. I think the smart thing for them to do is treat it like the first game: Announce it, go quiet for a long time, then bring it back into the conversation within a year of the game's expected release.

This kind of upsets me. It completely destroys the open ended morally ambiguous ending of the original by continuing the story.

Maybe the story of someone else set in the same world could have worked but not a continuation of Joel and Ellie.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
"Person is going to die" is one of the most annoying, common theories in Naughty Dog threads and it almost never comes true.

Elena is going to die in UC2.

Sully is going to die in UC3

It's UC4. The final Uncharted. SOMEONE has to die.

Nate's brother is going to die. Elena is going to die this time. Sully is going to die this time.

Naughty Dog isn't as obsessed with killing of characters as you think guys.
That's because ND isn't brave enough to kill characters who aren't the main cast of playable characters, (Joel surviving that wound was bullshit, especially since penicillin healed him magically and he was so refreshed that he could overpower and torture multiple people as well as travel a long distance). TLOU was the only one in that regard where they even hinted at it, just judging from the atmosphere in this trailer, Joel is fucked, what other motivation would Ellie of all people have to go scorched earth on a group of people and then sing about it afterwards with trembling hands? You realize how sociopathic that is? The implication is that she brutally murdered these people and then sang in a room by herself. ._.

Fuck no. What's interesting about Joel? Gonna put a huge damper on my excitement if you play as him again. Gruff Voice Dude Says "Seen Some Shit".

Traumatized from the loss and recent "rediscovery" of his daughter. Complicated relationship with his brother. Plus that final "thing" in TLOU I won't spoil here further shaped him as an interesting character. He's got more going on than 90% of protagonists in gaming. Much, much less interesting protagonists get slammed into sequels just because they have a face the players know from the first one and you can't find reasons for him?

i hope we still play as Joel, my favorite thing about TLOU was beating the crap out of people with melee attacks, if we are playing as Ellie then there may be not as much as aggressive melee combat as TLOU 1

i also hope in TLOU 2 they added bosses, it can make the game much better

Continuing after the pitch perfect note they did is going to dilute the ending a bit.

I'm excited because this will probably be Ellie focused since Joel has run his course, but the love I have for that ending will be gone.
With all due respect but this is so dumb, you don't even know the premise or where the new game is going and already are assuming things

I will seriously loose respect for Neil if he kills of Joel just because it's cool and thinks its needed. Bleh.
Naughty Dog has never killed off a protagonists

They have done so many fake outs over the last gen that I assume they won't ever really pull the trigger.

Was there something in the trailer that I missed to confirm those were fireflies she had killed? There's a logo on the stop sign at the start but those were everywhere in the first game.

Ellie chose to live the lie Joel gave her at the end of the first part.

Part II leads up to Joel telling her the truth when she's about to do something terrible because of the lie.

Ellie joins the fireflies, but is forced to kill Joel by them first.

The End... Maybe?

Ok personally, my ranking of preference went something like this:

DREAM: New IP
Why not: TLOU2 with completely new characters
Fiine: TLOU2 with Joel and Ellie

The thing is, it's been 2 years since we've seen a Druckmann/Straley(?) thing from them which they and the team built from the ground up. The second thing is, a Naughty Dog game these days is something to behold, the epitome of AAA and passion project, and when a new one comes around it's hard not to get hyped, least for me.

So yeah even if it's not what I was most desperate for, (though believe me when I say there are pro'lly more people more desperate for more Joel and Ellie than I am for a new IP lol) it's still an exciting thing to look forward to and I won't complain that I'm getting it. It's like choosing between a cruise ship, Hawaii getaway, or trip to the Alps. Either way you're getting something unforgettable if you're a fan of ND.

Will they do the characters justice? I'm sure they'll try. Nevertheless I'll reserve judgement 'til further details are given, though in the meantime it's just a heck of a trailer to take in.

"The sequel ruins the ending for the first game despite me not knowing what the creators of the first planned for the entire story and despite me knowing very little about the sequel."

C'mon now guys. At least wait until the game is out before you say it ruined the ending of the first.

That's because ND isn't brave enough to kill characters who aren't the main cast, TLOU was the only one in that regard where they did this, just judging from the atmosphere in this trailer, Joel is fucked, what other motivation would Ellie of all people have to go scorched earth on a group of people and then sing about it afterwards with trembling hands? Yeah man Ellie is clearly very very messed up mentally in this game. But that makes a ton of sense. Look at the shit she went through as a child, that would scar the hell out of anyone.

And clearly, something else has happened since then. I don't think the idea that Joel is dead here is far fetched at all.

It's not that they're not brave. Its that killing someone off is literally so predictable that even before we know anything about this game people are already predicting it.

It's boring.

Theory: Ellie had a baby and the Fireflies took it because it inherited the immunity or they were hoping it did.

So excited for this game!

Cool. Can we run that piece of unlikable shit Joel off a cliff at the beginning and not have to hear him for the rest of the game?

Did not expect this AT ALL, i legit got a bit teary-eyed. While i wouldnt even put the first game on my top ten list i still think about it from time to time and it holds a special place in my heart, so glad that its Ellie and Joel again aswell

That's not brave to me, it's following through with a common, always anticipated trope.

I always wanted more Ellie (and Joel), so I couldn't be more excited.

It was always clear they were setting her up for multiple games I and I'm glad that's finally 100% confirmed. God I can't wait for this game.
