Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

I don't think so...

It was no date announced just like God of War & Spiderman. With Sony's track record here, I'd say its best to expect it far away from now.

I think the majority of announced games will be available at max in 2018. Sure, Kojima could go 2019, but the others I don't think so.

Early 2017, for example, Sony will have: GR2, Ni-OH, Horizon and MLB. We will have more games for 2017 beyond GTS IMO

With all the recent announcements supposedly not being 2017 next year is looking very slim for PS4 exclusives. This is partially why I think that at least one of games announced during the last year will actually make it into 2017 - Detroit have a good chance here as the one announced a year ago and Spiderman might make it as well simply because Insomniac aren't known for long development cycles.

I wonder what Sucker Punch is working on?

Hopefully a new IP with their great movement and traversal mechanics from second son and first light.

When do we expect Days Gone? Fall 2017?

They're "targeting" 2017, which is preparation for announcing it'll be coming out in 2018 in the next six or so months.

I really see no value in Sony rushing to get games out in the run-up to Christmas. Unless it's like a 90% plus Metacritic game and they put a massive UC4-style marketing budget behind it, it's hard to see how it wouldn't get buried.

Lets not forget that Until Dawn is the Killzone engine anyway, it's not like Supermassive took the engine with them.

Regarding RAD given their move to Amazon and what seems to be a mobile game I would imagine the engine is dead now. Sony own the IP as far as I'm aware, I'm unsure who owns the engine though, possible Sony too as they funded the game.

RAD own the engine and they're definitely using it in their Oculus game. Not sure about the other stuff they have in development, but I would assume so.

Would be a great summer game

i expect spider-man next year, simply to cash in on the new marvel made movie buzz. it would make a lot of sense.

I really hope it will be out next year, but I'm not expecting it until 2018; probably summer. If it's at PSX in a massive way then maybe it will be out next year, and that would be so awesome.

Source? All I've read is them discouraging the idea it'll be a 2017 game, by saying it's still in early development and not to assume it'll come out in 2017.

Even if that were the case though, the game doesn't have an official release window, so there won't be a delay announcement. Sony have finally learnt to just keep their mouths shut when it comes to release dates.

Homecoming will be distributed by Sony, but yes that's one of the games I expect to come in second half of 2017.

We have now the possible new exclusive Marvel vs Capcom 4 for 2017 too.

Like I said Sony has several games in the pipeline and I expect most of them coming at max in 2018.

The Days Gone Twitter account (I assume it's official?) literally said 2017 a few days ago. I'll try to find the tweet.

EDIT:

Days Gone is going to set a new standard in the gaming world!

Coming in 2017!

I'd be so bummed if Sony just abandons The Order. The game was heavily flawed, but I still enjoyed a lot of its aspects. Dark Victorian is my absolute favourite narrative setting and The Order captures it perfectly. I also quite liked how the guns felt and found the story to be interesting.

Is this official? I took a quick look at its followers and none of the official Playstation accounts or employees are following it.

Wattam might be Annapurna Interactive published too.

Santa Monica Studios' website doesn't list The Modern Zombie Taxi Co. either.

Yeah, I wish they'd give it a second shot.

It's really odd how Sony has been dropping so many 'second party' games this gen. Giant Sparrow is particularly strange, as they were (are?) housed in with SSM as an incubation team, and that process worked out very well for them with ThatGameCompany. Maybe Shawn Laydon is just not as warm about this stuff as Jack Tretton was? That being said, I don't know if Wattam and Rime fell under SCIA, or XDEV or what.

Maybe these developers just haven't been showing results. That certainly seems to be the case with Rime. Which is all the more reason for games not being shown when they're like 2-3 fucking years from being ready to release! At least we'll be able to play them all eventually, but as a business decision for Sony is just seems a bit strange.

They're WWS territory, Layden, and especially Tretton, should have little to do with them. Yes, Layden was made the chairman of WWS but I believe (based on the Live with Youtube Gaming interview) that he more acts as a go-between between WWS and publishing/marketing. Shu's still the boss of first party and second party development.

It is concerning though, because a lot of those smaller games were some of the best games Sony had (especially Journey) and they really set Sony apart from other publishers. I hope they're just cleaning up shop and it isn't a sign of a change in strategy.

Nothing odd about it. Sony dropped several AAA second-party games last gen. It happenes, for whatever reasons. See LA Noir (was a SONY IP), Remember Me (was a Sony IP), etc.
Things change -> deals are ending. Happens.

Wattam was also a SMS producced/published title. RIME was XDEV

It is weird, but the Annapurna Interactive guys seem to be ex Santa Monica people, so its clear why Funomena and Giant Sparrow went with them. Something happened, we just dont know what kind of deal this was

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Weird to see someone else snag two former Sony digital titles, but at the same time I can see Annapurna being a nice new publisher, so good for them.

I hope Sony's still got more smaller digital publishing efforts on the way. There are only a couple known now.

yep, most announced in the past 3 years are out now (or not with Sony anymore). The ones left (non PSVR):

Drawn To Death should come out this year still (next week or this weekend maybe)
WiLD and Matterfall could come out next year

Pixelopus next project should be announced soon, as well as Ovosonico's PS4 game. Maybe Arrowhead still working with Sony (I think they are) after Helldivers apparent success. Funbits could be too, but IDK at this point after Fat Princess Adventures didnt pan out that well.

Didnt he say that was a new IP?

Not the case here

He didn't. I'm looking at the quote right now. Just said "Third person IP, big budget, set in the Indian subcontinent.". Western developed. Is it cheating? Little bit, but looking at it you can tell ND might turn that into the new direction for UC so maybe not.

Edit: Nevermind. Said third party. Ah well, lol.

so what were the new announcements?

Sony Japan - Knack
Naughty Dog - Chloe Game & The Last of Us 2
Housemarque - Nex Machina

WipeOut Collection by Xdev?
Parapa the Rapper, Loco Roco, Patapon Remaster by???

Let it die - removing from the list since its out now

Nex Machina is not a Sony game, Housemarque owns the IP
WipEout Omega Collection is a collab between XDEV, Clever Beans and EPOS
Parapa the Rapper, Loco Roco and Patapon Remaster are beeing handled internally by Dave Thach's team, also know as ''Special Operations Team'' (they are the ones who handle PS2-PS4 games)

The one missing from the list is StarBlood Arena, beeing developed by WhiteMoon Dreams and SIE San Diego for PSVR

I hope Matterfall from Housemarque is okay, I was thinking we're gonna see Matterfall first and then the Jarvis Project.

I got the impression that Matterfall was a bigger budget (bigger than Jarvis Project) game so it will probably get to be in the oven for longer.
