Halo 5 getting its biggest update soon, thoughts on post release support?

A server browser that is cross-play enabled between XBO and PC could be a game changer for the franchise going forward.

Halo 5's post launch support has been nothing short of incredible. I really commend 343 for what they've managed to do with the game since release, and hope that this trend continues with Halo 6.

Kind of a PSA/Question but here are the following things being added this month (week) to Halo 5

Confirmed:
-SERVER BROWSER (Yes you can now browse for custom games on XBO/PC)
-Halo: Reach Grenade Launcher
FUCKING BASED 343, DAMN

They went from making the worst Halo to making the best Halo, and it's only getting better! Good lord.

Pretty sure aiming improvements aren't confirmed. All we've had is some tweets from pros claiming it feels better. Wait until we get actual confirmation before getting your hopes up too much.

This too. This is the most important thing for me. If you cant smoothly aim in a FPS, whats the point of even playing?

Halo 5 post launch has been phenomenal. I'm a campaign guy but I always find myself going back and checking the new stuff out. If you told me i'd still be checking out Halo 5 2 years after launch before it came out I'd of said you were insane.

Woah I thought they were done updates past August, but now that multiplayer queue is getting updated to something more along prior titles, and fine tuning the aiming away from the mlg pro crap?

This might convince me to come back to playing it, dropped it right before the Warzone firefight update as the game was just not for me but this gets me intrigued

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
So, we're finally getting a custom server browser on PC... two(?) months after it launched?

recently reinstalled Halo 5 on my Xbox One after they added that anniversary playlist, which is fun as hell and feels like how a gameplay sequel to Halo: CE's MP would play like. the post release support has been great. hopefully they can somehow add in crossplay with Halo 5 Forge on PC and then I'm good
and port MCC to PC and add cross play for that too
.

What do you even mean by "fine tuning the aiming away from the mlg pro crap".

I kept on begging them to keep the Anniversary playlist, but with a custom browser I don't need to. :'-)

Needed space so I deleted it a while back. Now the game and the updates are about 100 Gigs, so I will never be able to reinstall and play it again.

Did they unlock the framerate and add adaptive sync support for Halo 5 PC?

I am going to assume these things will be added but have no confirmation. FoV and framerate adjustments were easily added in by players the day of release

Meanwhile, I consider Halo 5 one of the only games good enough to never take off my hard drive, haha. I feel your pain though, that file size is huge.

My thought on their post-launch support in general is that it's a mixed bag.

On one hand, they often used it as an excuse to complete their unfinished product. At launch it was missing a lot of shit that really should have already been included from the start. I wasn't fooled and I don't like that.

On the other hand, it meant in the longterm that the game got some new features that have never appeared in console Halo before (like the amazing new custom games browser) and also continuous bugfixes over a long period of time. I like that.

A custom games browser is not just a typical quality of life improvement or fun feature, though. It's a big fucking deal. It's so good I'm wondering what the catch is.

i don't mean to diminish what 343 has done here because their post launch support has been truly transformative for halo 5, but let's be real here: if they hadn't supported the game post launch, it would be terrible.

it launched with only a couple gamemodes and like 7 unique maps (half of them were just remixes of each other, which really made the multiplayer experience at launch get old fast).

Yup

My god dude I am getting Halo CE PC feels with this news. I'm so excited. I can't wait to play Halo in Big Screen Mode on my TV with my DS4!!

I started the series on PC meaning that my jump from Halo 1 to Halo 2 was a bit of a downgrade in that department. I was already spoiled with online multiplayer and a custom server browser.

I'm going to play so many forge maps. Maybe people will even join on my own games and play my forge map with me.

Maybe they can update MCC now

Nah

As we all know, separate teams were managing the two releases and support would continue beyond Halo 5's release date. I assume that the second team just went on vacation on October 27 2015, but I'm sure they'll be back in the office real soon.

Aaaaaaaany day now.

Ah cool. I just did a search and found what you spoke of. Will try it out, thanks.

Any specific date we can expect this update to drop?

Really been wanting to play Halo 5 Forge on PC but having to add people just to get a match going is annoying.

I am personally expecting Thursday.

This imo.

Really outstanding support from 343i, over a year after release and we're still getting new content and new modes. And all free!

Interested to see what they have planned for Firefight.

But the funnest.

Nope not even close.

-Molasses movement
-Projectile weapons on P2P connection
-High TTK due to said projectile weapons
-Equipment inflating already bad TTK, having no indication if a player is holding equipment
-Poor map design with over reliance on shield doors/gravity lifts.
-Half the weapons in the sandbox were useless, this was due in part to duel wield balancing.
-AR starts which consisted of people running at each other for simultaneous melees.

I put it below 4 and Reach gameplay wise, it's only slightly better overall since it has even starts. The game was only palatable in MLG settings. Halo 3 started the MP decline, Halo 5 is the game that brought it back.

Custom game browser? It's finally coming?

I love halo 5. Really think it's one of the better multiplayer games in the series. But i ultimately put it down for a while since Overwatch is taking all of my multiplayer hours. A custom game browser will bring me back though.

343's post launch content has been amazing. By far the best the series has ever seen and maybe some of the best post launch support a console shooter had ever received.

Until the aiming is fixed, the game will be considered subpar. Impossible to Halo 5 and other shooters without feeling like one is being handicapped.

Halo 3 remastered campaign plus Halo 3 maps in Halo 5 would be nice. Fuck Halo 3's MP sandbox, worst in the series.

Anniversary playlist basically gave a good taste of how much balance this game has to do throwback modes without them feeling like Reach forge stuff.

Custom game browser is nice. Hope this means I can play Halo 4's Extraction and Ricochet game modes again. Those were so damn fun.

I want remakes of Halo 3 maps that make tweaks for Halo 5's sandbox. Rather than just doing straight remakes and trying to make it play like Halo 3.

Gotta say even though Halo 5 isn't my favorite 343 has gone above and beyond with their post launch support now over a year out. Kudos to forge team for all the work they've done as well. Hoping that rumored Gun Game is true. Loved playing that in Black Ops

There won't be server binaries released to self-host right? Just create a game and it will show in the list, then disappear when the game host leave?
