FCC Republicans vow to gut net neutrality rules “as soon as possible”

The worst part is that every awful thing Republicans now do, pretty much unhindered, they will still tell their voters is Democrat's fault (maybe specifically Obama's fault), and every last one of them will believe it.

And the next presidential election will be just as close as this one (the GOP will win the midterms big time). Oh wait, I mean bigly.

I pray enough major websites blackout to give this national outrage from both parties.

This is probably the only way to save Net Neutrality. Companies like Netflix and Google have a pretty substantial stake in Net Neutrality existing and considering the massive number of users they have they could make a significant impact on this decision. They need to do it before it's too late.

Sorry if this sounds a bit cold to my USGaf friends but the damage of this will cause will only be confined to the US correct?

I wonder if this will be a boon to Canada, as tech companies move North to access our speed to Europe and Asia while utilizing our time zones.

Canada needs to invest in tech. Oil and gas are gonna leave us in the 20th century.

Imagine if the reason for democrats retaking power is fucking Netflix.

Bread and circuses.

I think the carriers will get away with it too, mainly because I think theyll put the costs on the service providers and not the end-consumer.

Hopefully once they start messing with things like internet people will decide to actually get mad. Taking this to it's possible conclusion we'll have basically complete censorship and people won't even know that they should be mad anymore.

This could be some really serious shit if it happens.

IS THIS A POSSIBILITY? THIS IS HONESTLY MY ATTITUDE FOR THE NEXT 4 YRS

What a wonderful response. First of all, I am not American. Secondly, these Republicans basically played a game of stalling anything Obama really wanted to pass and saying no to everything that did get passed. Now we are seeing the signs that things like ACA and net neutrality are being threatened to be removed or changed a lot, even though it's been passed or a lot of people like these things. So that is why I asked my question because no matter how loud some people resist, things are going to change with a full Republican government.

I agree with you but no one likes the ACA.

There won't be.

Yes, there will.

People are freaking forgetting the massive campaigns there were to fight against all this bullshit in the past years (or even worse, thinking they won't matter now. They always matter). It wasn't just the average citizens, it was corporations and companies as well.

The FCC got over 4 million comments back then when this was an issue. When it becomes an issue again, other corporations, websites, and celebrities will let people know of the danger, and do everything they possibly can to fight this.

God this is such bullshit

We can only hope the big sites will do something to fight this tooth and nail

They'll be first in line to fight it because they don't want to go in the pit where they have to bribe every ISP or else they lose out to the competition. Youtube/Google will fight like hell because they don't want to suddenly lose all the marketshare to Vimeo because Vimeo was willing to play ball with Comcast and Verizon.

There's big money behind this, but there's as big or bigger money opposed to it, and the opposition has majority opinion along with big money, which is a tough combination to beat even when you do have government on lock.

The major difference being that the head of the FCC was willing to listen to those 4 million comments.

The FCC under the new administration is already bought and paid for by companies like Verizon and Comcast.

They're not going to care and will just ignore everything. It's what Republicans are good at.

This mindset needs to stop. With them at the head, they're not going to stop getting those comments.

It's not just average citizens. There are lots of corporations who support Net Neutrality and they're going to be the ones who urge the average citizen to get the word out. They need to get the message out to them that there's more money to be made with it than without it.

Exactly. That's going to be a major part in fighting this going forward.

I guess the one silver lining is that, unlike past GOP power grabs, this one will immediately effect a lot of their own voter base, so hopefully this time could be different.

i would love for the major traffic drivers of the internet(Netflix, Google, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Instagram) to go black for a week solid in protest if this comes to pass.

But how else could Trump whine on his Twitter about millenials thinking they're entitled?

Guess you can forget about large patches for video games. Better hope the final version is on the disc.

This will kill DLC and not to mention Steam.

Everything this could influence is huge.
