What's that light in the back? Does it change colors while watching movies and stuff? I saw someone talk about it on AVS forum and got me wanting one.

Its a bias light. It can do 15 different colors that you control with a remote.

The only way to get it to change colors according on the colors on the screen is to use a raspberry pi hooked up to an HT PC.

Noticed i got these 2 static bars pop up on my screen when using PC and i had this same problem on my last panel and i don't know if it's my PC or HDMI.

It's a literal bar 2-3 inches tall and it's just a static screen in that bar and it happens fast enough where you could blink and miss it. I don't think it's a panel issue because it seems weird back-back panels, different numbers on the back and different shipment and all but just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. It doesn't even happen everyday i have only seen it twice since i got this new panel and my last panel i only saw it 3 times in the 2+ weeks i had it. Oddly enough it's only happened while watching a video on youtube or netflix.

using the cable that came with PS4 pro. not had problems the last 2 weeks... only thing that changed is i changed to 1154 firmware on the tv.
There's a thread about this issue here on GAF and in other places. It's not a problem with the TV. I recommend checking out the discussions about this on other sites, as GAF is really defensive of Sony. A new cable won't help, don't waste your money.

Thanks, that looks better than I expected. I can't wait until I get mine.

Haven't slept in 24 hours, just put together the TV stand, sitting here for the next 2 and a half hours waiting for the delivery guys to show up with the TV.

Fingers crossed that it isn't broken.

Getting a replacement sent out, think I got a bad panel, compared it direct to my h6400 today and the 7000 (8000US) isn't upscaling the 1080p content through my TiVo/Sky Q box whatsoever, it looks awful, worse than the h6400.

The sharpness setting on the 7000 (8000US) isn't even working at all either, not even in the slightest.

Like on my 55 inch h6400 if I even get to 25 you start seeing ringing on the sharpness setting, on the 7000(8000US) sharpness could be at 100 and literally there is no difference whatsoever.

Add to that the fact the 7000(8000US) has clouding all over it, the smart led seems to be completely ineffective, I am having to turn brightness down to 39 on warm 2 with the backlight at nearly 8 in a dark room to get the blacks looking anything like my h6400 (which has the backlight at 20 on standard by the way in a dark room and looks better...I kid you not.)

I am hoping this is just a duff set, based on the impressions I have seen everywhere that seems to be the case so I will wait and see what the replacement is like.

If it isn't any better then I may have to return it completely, the 4k content looks good don't get me wrong and gaming on my PC looks great in terms of clarity at 4k but everything else about it is below par in comparison to the 6400 which cost me half the price and is 3 years older and only a mid/low range 1080p set.

I have them side by side and honestly, aside from netflix 4k and my PC games you cannot tell the difference whatsoever and from my experience the blacks of the 6400 are better, deeper and more realistic and it doesn't even have a dimming feature!

That's awful to hear. Hope you get a replacement that's problem-free. Your current set is definitely a lemon, so I'm sure the new panel will give you a better sense of the TV, even if it too needs replacing for some irritating reason.

For the Xbox One S should I have my Video Fidelity set to standard or PC RGB?

Standard and 30bpp. You need to make sure your TV is set to Auto as well. To confirm everything is correct, run the calibration and make sure to can see the open and closed eye when adjusting the brightness.

1080p content looking better on a 1080p set isn't really surprising.
And the h6400 still is a very capable TV.

Hmm.. In what way does it look bad? What color output is the TV set to in the laptop's graphics drivers?

blocky and pixelated. tbh the source material isn't the best but it looks fine on my 50" panasonic plasma.

BTW, how is HDR supposed to look like? I'm watching The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime and I seem to be missing something. There is nothing that makes me think 'wow'.

Are there any PS4 games that showcase HDR well? I've set the backlight to 20 and HDR on.

I am wireless, yeah, but so are all my other devices which have no problem streaming content with zero issues -- so as I said, it's not my internet.

I have super fast wireless also and found 4K and HD content to drop quality on it occasionally, wired has 0 problems ever.....wireless is never going to be that great unfortunately, not sure how good the wireless receiver is on the KS series.

FFXV is next level looking in HDR - Grand Tour blew me away on my 8000....did the banner come up saying 'HDR video playing'? One time on a Grand Tour vid it didn't for me and played in standard HD for some reason, so maybe that happened to you too that time :)

Low bitrate media files of shows and movies are just gonna look poor on this tv, because they're poor quality. Having quadruple the amount of pixels as a 1080 screen makes flaws from poor source material even more apparent.

As for HDR, watch Meridian on the HDR youtube channel (the netflix version looks like shit),the lg chess demo on the same channel, jessica jones on netflix looks great, though all the marvel shows have a shitty film grain filter, also man in the high castle and Goliath on Amazon will all show you what HDR is all about.

Set Digital Clean View to auto if you hate this. I also dislike the effect, but the KS8000 cleans it right up without totally removing it. I feel like it's the perfect balance: it's not too clean and remains cinematic, but the grain noise no longer distracts me from the rest of the picture.

did they fix the ps4 hdr bug or is it just with certain titles? the reason i ask is i just fired up the resident evil demo and got a message about hdr content. i thought to myself, "oh, i had better up the backlight and contrast and turn the smart led to high". when i went to do so i noticed the settings had already adjusted. i will try another source later (i want to play the resident evil demo right now so it's gotta wait).

You sure you didn't leave the settings that way from a previous game? Do you have Game mode enabled?

Keep us posted. There hasn't been a fix for that yet but you are giving me some kind of hope lol

That's odd, 1080p content looks amazing to me on this TV.

Also, for the poster that was asking about the grand tour, make sure you choose the right version. Amazon has a separate 4k/hdr title that you have to select. If you don't select that specific version, it's just going to give you the 1080p one.

nope, wasn't watching hdr content the last time i played the ps4. was playing mafia 3. i have game mode diabled. that's it. i don't use game mode anymore. sorry for the false alarm. i forgot. i don't use any post processing when in movie mode. actually i use smart led set to low, but it doesn't seem to introduce any lag. once again, sorry. i forgot that i stopped using game mode since i don't notice any lag (whether due to having most processing turned off or not, i still don't notice any lag, but i also haven't played guitar or dj hero yet on this tv, i'm sure i will need game mode then). the bug is only in game mode if i remember right.

edit: great googly moogly. this may be the best lighting i have ever seen in a game. i really need to try ratchet and clank soon. not to mention FFXV. i have heard great things about both of those.

edit 2: nope. screw this game. i'm on way too many painkillers to play this at the moment. the shadow of the character just scared the crap out of me. gonna play ratchet and clank and save the re demo for the daytime. yeah, i'm a wuss. deal with it.

What is this backlight/hdr bug? Is it where the current value doesn't match the actual value? I seem to get that randomly with the ks9000. Another bug I noticed is sometimes, some of my settings would reset (sharpness for example goes back to some high value from 0) when changing picture modes

Because Amazon has two listings for the videos one in 4K UHD and the other is in standard HD look for the banner on the top of the picture believe me I fucked up as well the first time I started playing some of their stuff

on the ps4, when in game mode (pretty sure it's just game mode due to my experience tonight), when a hdr source begins to play the tv doesn't automatically adjust the backlight and contrast to their max settings. as for your settings, are you sure you are setting them for each input on the tv. if you don't tell it to apply the settings to all inputs (i do each source manually, i don't let it carry the values over) you have to manually set each input. so if you switch input, the first time you go to a input it will have the default settings that were there out of the box not the ones you set for another input. for example, i calibrated using input 4 (my oppo bluray player). i had the option to use the settings for all inputs in the menu. i didn't do it. i calibrate each input using the primary device i use on that input (except for my cable box of course, i just use the oppo settings for it).

edit: by the way, it seems this thread is going to be one of my haunts. if anyone wants to add me as a friend on psn or xbox live, my gamertag/psn id is legbone. same as my username here. just send me a request and mention gaf somewhere in it.

I must be doing something wrong...

Have Amazon App that is installed on the TV playing Grand Tour.... but no audio... here are the connections and their labels:

TV < One Connect Cable (OCC) > Connect Box (CB)

Recievers HDMI Out > CB HDMI 1 (Master Connection allowing all content that goes into the receiver to then be sent to the screen via the OCC out of the CB.

New Amazon Basics cable going from HDMI 4 (ARC) on the CB > HDMI 5 input on the back of the reciever.

That last part I presumed would send audio from the Amazon app that comes preinstalled on the TV, through the tv OCC into the receiver.

My TV audio options were set to "Audio Out/Optical"

Am I limited to Optical only while using the Amazon app if I'm using a reciever?

Any help here would be appreciated!

What update are you guys on? (having trouble with color banding in game mode)

I've been complaining about colour banding for a while now. Never linked it to game mode though and didn't think to switch to another mode. Does the banding disappear then when in another mode?

Any idea what version TV you have? I'm in the UK and I've got an 03.......haven't managed to find out exactly what that means though.

Yes the banner came up. Are they any special settings I need to do to make the most of HDR?

Also, do I need a new cable to for my PS4 to make use of HDR in games? I haven't brought any new HDMI cables yet.

I have a very similar problem.

I have my receiver hooked on HDMI 4 (ARC).

However, I have no sound when playing from Youtube, Amazon or Netflix from my receiver.

If I use a USB stick, the receiver picks up the sound fine.

ARC should work with in built apps too.

Have you got HDMI CEC turned on?

Edit: 3 Handshake/Conversation issues abound!

I thought that somehow HDR might get affected/turned off/not be detected, and it did momentarily: I had to turn HDR off then on again in the Options for FFXV, but the moment it turned on and I was leaving then menu, the "An HDR video is playing" banner dropped down. Gonna test grand tour in the TV Amazon app for HDR handshake crap....

Edit 2: I ran a cable out from HDMI 2 from my reciever to the HDMI 1 on the Connect Box, and added another cable from HDMI 1 Out (ARC) on the reciever to HDMI 4 In (ARC) on the CB, and sound still was not coming out from the apps nor was video showing up for the PS4 Pro.....

.......then, while reading online about how to fix this for like 10-15 minutes.... all of a sudden from seemingly nowhere without pressing any buttons, the picture shows up for the PS4 Pro with sound, I test all my inputs on the reciever, and all devices output audio (4K BD player, etc)... so I try the Amazon app (have sound set to 7 Ch Stereo), push play on a Pokémon episode to test for sound, and voila! I have sound and picture on all devices out of the blue!

I read that ARC/CEC don't have any standards and that it can hit or miss with how the devices talk to each other. Well, I guess my devices need to have a longer than normal conversation, because I can explain what happened.

Edit: Looks like I do need CEC on, but I still can't get it to work.

Any of you guys or gals mind sharing how you have your TV set to output audio from its built in apps to a receiver, so that I could mimic those settings?! :)

No, mine is off, and I didn't think you'd need that on for the ARC to work.

Hmm my TV (65 KS8000) seems to have some mild clouding.

Does anyone have clouding on their set?

Should I try and get the screen replaced? I have brought it from Richer Sounds (UK).

Oh man, my friend let me use his EPP discount to order the 65" KS8000 today. It isn't supposed to ship until early January-ish, but I can't wait to see this in action. Hah, I'm very thankful for you guys that put in the work so far so I hopefully won't be spending the vast amount of time struggling to optimize this beast.

I have a question since the KS8000 comes with 4 HDMI ports..the thing is I already have my XBOX ONE S, Wii U, TV, and gonna connect the PS4 PRO.this weekend..so I will be out of ports..but I still want to be able to use my PS3, and NES Mini, can I take out the HDMI cable for the Wii U that is plugged in and switch around, sometimes use it for the PS3, sometimes for the Wii U, sometimes for the NES Mini, ya know what I mean

Genuinely curious, anybody use clear motion for that soap opera effect? Just started turning it off in every source. I think it was doing more harm than good.

I'm also confused because I think the non HDR version of The Grand Tour looks better. Is there a setting I have to turn on somewhere on the TV? Like, it's got that option to enable HDMI UHD Color for specific sources, but no option for the TV's apps.

Also, The Grand Tour says HDR HD 1080p when I pause. Isn't it supposed to be 4k?

Edit: Oh, backlight 20 is HDR?

Maybe get a cheap active switch from Monoprice and use it to combine all your last-gen/non-HDR sources onto a single input.

HDR 20 isn't "HDR" on its own, but the peak brightness you get from it is part of the HDR spec. IIRC the TV should automatically save the setting if you set backlight to 20 while HDR content is playing, except in game mode.

Also, I've gotta manually switch game mode off if I'm playing movies from a console, right?

Kind of makes me want to go get a dedicated blu-ray player...

Anybody know if there's a downside to always having digital clean view on? I can't tell the difference.

Also, I think I like dynamic contrast set to high. Why's everybody have it off?

I have the uk model ks8000 (US ks9000) and when watching tv via a set top box I get a bit of judder every ten minutes or so. It feels like frame pacing or something weird.

I have used the rtings settings so have the anti judder stuff on "custom" but all sliders to zero.

Any idea, GAF?
