Hey guys. I've just set up a soundbar and there seems to be a noticeable delay in audio through the optical port. Is there any fix for this? I've got multiple devices so plugging the optical cord in to one of them isn't really an option.

Should I avoid the Coaxial cable?
There's a menu option to set the amount of delay on the optical output, try adjusting it from the default setting.

My panel has some clouding when the screen is black or totally grey. Is this normal or should I get it replaced?
I think this is something that happens to lots of people. Whether to return or not is up to you and your perception.

I've found that where you sit can make it more noticeable; off-axis seems to bring it out. You could also play with how bright the backlight and smart led are. The darker the room the more you'll notice it. I play with a lamp behind the TV.

Has anyone had problems with the TV blinking on and off when hooked to a PC? I can't seem to pin down what is causing this. I've replaced the HDMI cable, trying various settings on and off. Doesn't happen with my XBO or PS4.
Update: I turned off UHD HDMI Color on the port that I have my PC hooked into, and it hasn't done this since. Which kind of sucks since I'd like to have that turned on. I wonder why it'd lose signal with that turned on in regards to my PC.

85 pages of paranoia as to whether or not all my settings are correct.

RECEIVER QUESTION:

I have a pretty ok 4K receiver hooked up to my tv with my PC and PS4 plugged into it, which then goes into the ARC input on my tv.

I'm noticing however, that the tv struggles trying to recognize the two sources (technically three, for the receiver settings signal) and give them unique settings. For instance, I'll watch something via my PC input, then want to play a PS4 game, and it will think I'm still watching my PC, and prevent me from switching to game mode. Also, I'm having no luck doing the trick in the OP to rename the PC input to something else, to get the four picture options back.

Ideally I'd want it so that it doesn't recognize different sources from my receiver, and allow me to apply one setting to the hdmi input. Does anyone have any experiencing managing this?

I almost want to plug my PC and PS4 directly into the OneConnect box, and send the audio back via ARC, but I'm sure that probably introduces some lag, and feels 'wrong'.

If I'm using a regular Xbox One with this TV, what should I set the colour depth to in the console's settings? 24 bits (8-bit), 30 bits (10-bit), or 36 bits (12-bits)?
AFAIK it's a 10 bit panel but the "PC RGB" setting on Xbox One doesn't play nice and still gives crushed blacks. My XB1 is currently set to default.

Oh shit it is indeed. Any chance Samsung fixes this?
It means the post processing of the other modes are introducing lag to the audio signal. I think the delay setting is supposed to help synchronize this.

If it's just a bug, there's hope they may fix it when they roll out an update that fixes the HDR bug.

...if you're optimistic that'll happen, that is.

I see. That sucks. I won't get my hopes up too much for a fix.

On the Netflix app, when I click the info button I no longer get the resolution info. I tried to uninstall the Netflix app but it does not let me. Has anybody had this info window disappear on them? Any advice?

I have a feeling my Netflix app isn't giving me 4k and I wanted to check.

Netflix updated their app and took away this functionalty for some reason. Nothing you can do.

White Balance:
Before adjusting anything here, be sure to set up Colour Tone (I recommend Warm2) and Colour Space (I recommend Auto)! For the adjustments, we need the test image from the beginning of the post on an USB-stick or something ( Edit: now in 4k: http://burosch.de/images/directdownload/06_Universaltestbild First-CheckUHD.jpg ). The goal is to remove any tint of grey and white shades that might have been introduced by our settings so far. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be an expert to get at least the most basic adjustments right.
  • 2 Point:
This adjusts two ranges of brightness, the darker one (Offset) and the brighter one (Gain), separate for each color-channel red, green and blue. Start with the Gain-settings since they are more visible. Here, firstly focus on the Red and Blue-Gains, Green can have side-effects. I personally have just changed R-Gain and B-Gain for now, maybe I will put some more time into it in the future. So, load up the test image and adjust the R-Gain and then the B-Gain. The aim is a perfectly white background while keeping the skin tone of the women natural. A light warm touch in the whites is acceptable too. To get rid of a red cast it might be necessary to dial down the R-Gain or turning up the B-Gain, or a combination. Don’t get carried away though but try values in the range of +/- 10, or 15 tops. I for example settled (at the moment) with the following values, the rest being 0:
  • R-Gain: -5
  • B-Gain: 7
But again: don’t copy them but try to get it right for YOUR panel, it is worth it!
Just did this and my set needed R-Gain -5 and G-Gain 15. I tried changing the Green but 0 was perfect.

Thanks for your tip my whites look better.

So this is slightly off-topic, but I've just pulled the trigger on the UE55KS7000 (which I believe is the UK variant of this), and I want to pass through audio to my receiver, which only has a single HDMI and optical in. Does this TV pass through 5.1 on either of those?

Yes it will pass through Dolby or DTS 5.1.

Yeah, this sucks and I've not found any way to keep the TV from "smart switching" the input name/mode/icon to PC/Xbox/Etc. I just go into the input list to my input, hit up, Edit, and then pick the desired one from the left and then OK at the bottom. This always works for me.

So close to pulling the trigger on the 49 inch KS7000. It's down to £849 in the UK, plus I can get 7% off at Curry's via work so it would be £790.....

Very tempted, but I just checked my account post Christmas and I'm going to have to hold off for a bit longer ;_;

Updating again in case anyone else is trying to fix this issue.

So with UHD Color turned off, I couldn't run it at 1440p/60hz on the PC, just 4k and my 980Ti cannot push that, so I started trying other things with it turned on. I'm fairly certain the problem is some sort of HDCP handshaking issue. If I completely shut my computer down and turn it back on, things work fine. If the TV goes to sleep or is turned off/back on, that is when the issue crops back up, leading me to believe that it is on the computer end of the HDCP handshake. Since a full shut down is annoying, I've had luck using Display Settings to just Display On my second monitor. I then just extend after doing that and it sees to work. I'm obviously just making guesses here, but I'm thinking that doing that reestablishes the HDCP connection properly.

Picked one of these us yesterday and am very impressed. Unfortunately I juat assumed it had rca audio or at least a 3.5mm jack so I could hook my audioengine a5+s into it but it doesn't. Will any optical to rca do the job?

I'm starting to wonder if DC on Low is preferable for HDR content. Playing FF XV, I always felt the blacks looked almost crushed, DC low seems to alleviate that some.

I'll need to do some further testing.

Seems YUV in ps4 settings gives 10 bit hdr at 60/4k where rgb on the same set up only gives 8 bit hdr? What is the deal with this
There's no such thing as 8-bit HDR (well, technically there is, but it's not the defined standard and is nonsensical). High Dynamic Range (HDR) has a 10-bit color depth or more. Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) is 8-bit.

The current HDMI standard 2.0a does not have the bandwidth to do RGB 4:4:4 10-bit at 4k60.

Setting to Automatic on PS4 Pro gives you RGB 4:4:4 4k/60 for your 8-bit SDR games, and switches to YUV 4:2:0 4k/60 for your 10-bit HDR games (if it's working properly, anyway.)

Anyone know how to fix colors blurring together during games? Sometimes my screen just turns into a blob of colors sometimes and the frame rate drops significantly for brief moments. I already have my tv in game mode so I dont know what I could do in the settings to fix it.

Is it normal for the panel to constantly auto dim even with eco shit off?

I'm not talking about little dimming here and there i am watching Sicario UHD blu-ray and i noticed in a daytime scene it just randomly dimmed to where it looked late afternoon then the pictured brightened back up when the people started moving.

edit: this is using xbox one if that helps. I didn't notice the issue when watching Civil War on my ps4.

Forgive my ignorance. Was the Sicario Blu-ray also in HDR? I've noticed a few instances of odd dimming on a few of the HDR demo videos.

The set will dim to maintain black levels in dark or mostly black scenes. But it seems that it will dim on extended bright scenes in HDR mode because while the set is capable of high peak brightness, it can only maintain that level for so long before dimming. At least that's what I've read. Not sure if that is what you are seeing.

Was it dimming the tv's UI as well? I had this, and then it seemed to just magically go away.

Just like "An HDR video is playing" notification that used to come up, but no longer does (even if the 'info' button confirms I'm watching an HDR video).

Funny thing about messing with the settings on this tv for a couple weeks. I was able to adjust the settings on my sisters older 1080p Sharp tv easily and for the most part used the same setting numbers. We both agreed it looked great. So sad...she was playing with auto motion feature on and game mode off for years now.

Thanks for your input, I've edited my original post with some information from you. I also updated the link to the test-image to one in UHD. I've tried to adjust sharpness using this image on an USB-Stick. Looking at the crosshair on the right I have trouble noticing any big difference when changing values. What exactly is meant by "ringing"? White outlines next to black lines for example? Is there a specific image you can recommend using when dealing with sharpness? Would be much appreciated!
With all due respect to aske, I've already proven that the right sharpness is 0. (Despite the fact that several experts have already stated this). I was able to see ringing in watch dogs 2 under 20. Either the test pattern he's using isn't good, or his eyes aren't good enough to spot ringing, he's in PC mode (in which case the right setting is 50), or he prefers a sharpened image. But you can see the proof in this vid where I'm flipping back and forth between 0 and 17 sharpness https://youtu.be/DhI5A2uf2Pw

If you look at my post history I think I posted a screen grab comparison if it isn't obvious what I'm pointing out.

Yeah Sicario had HDR. I don't think i have even seen a UHD in stores that don't have a HDR sticker on it and if it did i wouldn't bother buying it since most are just 2k transfers. I buy it specifically for the HDR advantages.

I haven't noticed it dimming in anything but in Suicide Squad and Sicario UHD's Blu-rays. That HDR shit always pops up for me especially when you first laugh UHD blu-rays.

As far as the great sharpness debate goes, I actually managed to see a lot more of the effects of the sharpness slider by highlighting the Trophies icon on the PS4 XMB in 4K than I did using the Disney WOW sharpness slide in 1080p.

In that scenario, however effective a scenario it may be (probably not very, haha), I did see a lot more banding and artificial definition when closer to 20. I ended up settling on 10 sharpness using that, which was probably swayed a bit by that guy here saying he got professionally calibrated to sharpness 10. It does seem a lot better than being closer to 20, at least in this oddball test.

I invite fellow sharpness weirdos to take a lot at it and grow slightly crazier.

I experiment a lot with settings and to my eyes Dynamic Contrast for PS4 games on high looks better than low and medium and is very close to "off". I tested it with the Game mode and it doesn´t seem that I lose detail but with DC set to medium or low the picture gets a bit washed out and colours/brightness are way too "altered".

Yes, I am sharpness weirdo too, I have it at 30 now, 31 introduces visible artificial artifacts, so there is no reason to turn it down right?
On my "returned" KS9000 the sharpness limit was 20.

Also on firmware 1154 and Ratchet HDR in Game mode changes to full brightness now, didn´t do it before on 1142.

I also often test and compare my picture settings in the PS4 XMB with the trophy icon and the game pictures there, so far the one from Alien Isolation is really good at comparing different settings.
I started doing this when I had my first 1080p set and the PS3 about 10 years ago. :D
