Lol

Well at least these are prettier than the hotel mario leak lmao

Id actually give props to the artist that made these

I prefer the hotel mario thing because at least it had guts of going where nobody expects.

This was lame designs (or absolutly disgusting in the mk8 case) of things we know we will see

I still cant get over how he said he seen it running at a lower fps when undocked.. Like, you just made that up lol

The worst was Brian saying it only targets 1080p as a big negative. The PS4 and XBO only target 1080p(and often hit lower resolutions). Okay Pro and Scorpio are aiming higher but they are (going to be) the minority of consoles people are playing on.

True. But its simple.. minimal and simple always look better than all the other crazy stuff

Oh for sure. You need a bit of designer's eye to get a logo framed nicely like this.
But in practice it's pretty trivial to actually churn out logos like that if you're versed in the Adobe creative suite.

Maybe if I had some spare time, could be a fun design exercise.

I cringe whenever those people from ign open their mouths. And they actually get paid to do this stuff.

They get paid to do many things. None of which involve spending as much time researching on console as we do. It's fair to say they don't have all the facts, but they were answering a reader question. This wasn't a pre-planned full-on discussion, that's NVC.

Not to be a negative nancy, but I feel there's a shitstorm brewin' when it comes to the storage situation.

I got a 2TB for the PS4 hoping it would last me the entire gen, but it seems like in reality it might be the absolute minimum you need if you're going all or mostly digital. Uncharted, FF XV, Ratchet, TLG and even Bloodborne are all between 20-60GB or more when you include the DLCs and patches. And now with Horizon, Mass Effect Andromeda, RDR2 etc coming.
In a perfect world every Switch game would be extremely polished and have minimum patches, but I just don't see that happening, with games becoming more complex, the worlds becoming bigger, the expectations higher. The era of constant updates is upon the Switch, there's no doubt in my mind.

What am I gonna do with a 256GB microSD card even if I do find a good brand with a great price?
This is the calm before the storm.

Oh boy!

Umm yeah its not something building up as you say

We are acutely aware that storage is going to be a thing

If you don't do the research then don't comment, people listen to these people expecting what they say to be true, it's bad journalism to make assumptions based on little to no valid information.

What if patches can be stored directly on the game card?

I'm hoping to go all digital on Switch.

Gonna fucking cry if these rumours about internal storage are true. Power being weaksauce as well, but damn that storage :(

Games are installed to the ps4 HDD regardless of whether its physical or digital. The disc is pretty much for authentication nowadays. I'm hoping Sony allows for external USB support at some point.

If we were talking about a dedicated article, I'd agree with you. This is a breakout video from a podcast where they discuss many things. A podcast geared towards PlayStation news. The reader question asked what their personal opinions were, that does not demand extensive research.

The biggest and most reasonable complaint here is that they shouldn't have made that a breakout video. If they left that discussion in the podcast I doubt anyone would take much note. I don't think they should have made that move, but this is by no means their stance on the Switch as an outlet.

uh they most likely will be and we've been drilling realistice expectations into peoples heads for months in the various threads

Expect this to have 32GB minimum internal storage ( i really hope they dont even bother to entertain 16GB)

We may see more like 64/128 but i consider that very optimistic

AS far as microSD cards go you should be able to snag 128-200GB cards for 40 bucks or so

Games on average should be roughtly the sizes we see in WiiU games (8-16GB or more)

Plan accordingly

I personally will be just fine with 232GB of storage at least until 512GB micros come around at reasonable prices

At first I was going to cry because I thought the games would have to install first but I forgot these were carts. I wont go digital but yeah its gon suck for people that do if the storage is really low and we have 50 some gb games

That's what I'm worried about. Even if you go physical, patches these days are huge.

I mean it's not really a rumor. It should be expected. It's just the reality about the nature of the system. You aren't going to be able to fit a HDD in the Switch undocked, and high capacity flash storage in the range of 500-1000GB could be more expensive than the Switch itself.

Now I hope Nintendo allows external HDD access to the docked system with ability to swap between the external storage and internal storage. Sure it would be a hassle, but you could basically store all your games in the hard drive like a locker and then keep a rotation of games in the internal storage. You won't be able to keep all of your games with you at all times, but at least you wouldn't have to constantly re-download. Something like that..could be Nintendo's bandaid to the potential storage issue.

Whats the largest game that you could download on WiiU?

I would expect games sizes to hover around that size on average

It wouldnt hurt to see larger built in storage but its so expensive in comparable tablets that Im not expecting them to push above 32GB for the basic model

I honestly dont care what they think of the Switch. They could think whatever I dont care. I just think as a credible video game news outlet they should be able to discuss information accordingly, being based in facts. They have already begun to lead a misconception of the hardware because of their own ideas they believe to be true somehow. You cant pass stuff you think as true is facts.

Journalists making up facts whether it's on a podcast, YouTube or anywhere is bad, in my opinion it paints both IGN and those guys involved in the discussion negatively and I for one will definitely less likely to visit IGN because of it.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is the biggest Wii U game at 22.9 GB. It also has around a 1GB of data packs.

Im surprised

if any of them were Vita fans I would imagine the switch would be very attractive hardware

but its not like there arent plenty of people hating on it because its not gonna be the next Scorpio

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

Could you resume the discovery you made in the other thread about the GPU ? I don't understand a single post in this tech mess so I need someone to make it dumber for myself.

It was sarcasm. Hopefully they have better titles than that.

The way the PS4 handles storage is fucking horrible tbh, in that it requires a complete HDD swap for every upgrade. At least the X1 supports USB storage.
I mean, when third parties are making ugly ass HDD caddys as a solution, its transparently clear that the official solution is inadequate.

Worst case scenario for the Switch is you have a bunch of SD cards you have to swap around and you either buy SD cards as needed, or do "fridge cleaning". Either of which are still less of a hassle than guesstimating future storage needs and buying and replacing expensive laptop drives.

Because power doesn't matter.

Right. Let's just have a potato run it then.

I'm anti power when it means crushing the teams who can't follow.
When you see how beautiful some game on less powerful consoles can be, I don't see why it should be THE reference.
Art style go far beyond power only.

Ideas are more important than power.

I didn't say power only. I'm saying why be against more power if it can be done at the right price. Pretty sure your good looking games will look and perform even better then.

I've contented myself with buying all my Switch retail games physically. I'll save my precious limited storage space for updates, patches, VC and indies.

I've had the same worry but the thing to remember is that those huge games are typical massive AAA third party games you tend to find on PS4 / XB1. I've rocked a 500GB hard drive on my Wii U and bought every single Nintendo published game at this point and I've had no storage issues as far as I can recall. Most Nintendo games have been between 2GB-10GB, with only the odd exception like a Xenoblade being larger.

So, considering I'm unlikely to buy the likes of Skyrim for Switch and will be staying 1st party, I'm quietly confident that it won't be as big of an issue as it might be.

Their responses to reader questions are not framed as highly-researched intellectual discussion. They're quick-responses question and answer segments. As I said, I'll wholeheartedly agree that making this a breakout video gives a different impression, and they shouldn't have done that. But I'll gladly agree to disagree when it comes to responses to that section of the podcast. It is not the job of everyone at IGN to know 100% of everything that's coming out. That's why the have a team of people who get assigned to different things. That's why NVC is its own podcast.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions so if you want power and 4K then I can see the Switch not being an attractive console, my biggest problem is the fact these guys are journalists that people listen to them and in all in tense and purposes they are giving out false information.

Maybe I am wrong but I don't get the impression you would have had the same if Colin and Greg were still working at IGN.

This is my biggest concern and will likely be the deciding factor as to whether or not I buy the Switch.

I'm hoping either yes to external USB support or that the system's weak enough to where game size isn't larger than the Wii U.

Course if the latter's true then I expect little third party support, again, and will likely be able to count the games I want on one hand, like with the Wii U, so, maybe the storage is fine? Just needs to hold Zelda, Splatoon, Metroid(please God), SMT, and a Monolithsoft game.

More seriously though, if Japan treats it as a 720p handheld the majority of the big file size titles will be from Nintendo so maybe a large SD card will suffice longer than we think? We should probably just look at the combined 3DS and Wii U release calenders from 2 to 3 years overlayed on top of each other and subtract the ports to get a sense of how many "console" and "portable" sized games we'll get. Just because the system could do more doesn't mean SMT and Phoenix Wright will all of a sudden be 60GB graphical powerhouse.

That was pretty much my Wii U experience too. That said, it paints a pretty bleak future for the Switch if it remains the case.

In terms of storage, they could allow you to connect an external HDD to the dock via USB, I just wonder how that'd be managed once the Switch is removed from the dock. It's doable, right?

Having a negative discussion about Switch is perfectly acceptable when you talking about the facts, having one when you making assumptions based on rumour and opinion is not.
