Nintendo uploads ARMS stream (Japanese, nearly an hour)... Game looks fantastic!

So what other unraveling materials could characters' Arms be made out of? So far we've got springs, ribbons, chains, bandages and, uh... robot arms. I'm expecting some creative stuff.

Hmm... What about a cook character with twisted around pasta for arms?

witch that has floating fists in front of her?

This game is really growing on me after initially being indifferent, especially the character designs. Can't wait till more characters are revealed, but I'm liking Master Mummy and Tron Bonne a lot.

Alright, fine. I won't wait to get an extra set of joycons for Mario Kart, I'll get them for this!

Seriously though, this game looks way more rad than they made it out to be with that awful trailer.

I was being sarcastic

They confirmed there are more characters.

Please. You cannot do sarcasm in these times. There are actually people saying asinine shit like this and believing it. It's impossible to tell apart real from fake :D

This comes out after MK though.

Arms is almost definitely coming out after Mario Kart.

I'm betting we see a fighter with lava or water construct arms. Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a fighter made out of literal taffy.

I had some hands on time with this.

Game is awesome, but it would be really difficult to play competitively with motion controls.

At one point I was using the mummy guy and my buddy was using the mech chick. The guy running the demo advised me to jump and forward dash to get in.

9 times out of 10 when I would try and dash forward in the air it would punch.

I'm sure with practice someone could get more accurate with it... but for any type of serious play it was unacceptable.

That being said, I look forward to playing with traditional controls, it is a great game and I get Power Stone vibes from it.

Well maybe if you just git gud, you'd be fine with motion controls. Did you ever think about that, Glix? Eh? Didja?

This game looks pretty good but motion control games seem like a step back without VR

I see it like this.

Non 1:1 motion controls are, except in very limited examples, pretty bad.

1:1 motion controls are usually pretty awesome, but more immersive in VR.

This is one of those videogames where it feels like the game feels joy just to be a game. As though the game itself were yelling, "HELL YEAH! VIDEOGAMES!"

I am hoping for accordion arms.

I agree. After seeing the full game and there only being 5 characters doing this one on one thing only mode- I don't see it being fun. Maybe a $20 game or so? What do you think?

But without factoring in the price, it is a fun game. It's the same with any fighter. You don't really get much single player stuff to do but the core gameplay is so solid that the price is pretty much always justified due to it's competitive edge. I bought Pokken on launch. Learned the mechanics, made combos, had fun and tuned into the EVO stream but barely played it since. ARMs is mostly likely going to be the same. I'm going to pick it up because it's a fighting game and I have people to play with regardless of the price but at the end of the day, it's a damn fun game.

I can already tell this game isn't going to do that well and is going to have it's very niche audience but it's a very solid and enjoyable game.

I dont know, I hate these games normaly. Its all fun a games till xmas or some family bbq and it ends up being put on. Its your console and game so supposedly your the one to beat. little Jimmy has ago and just swings like some tazmanian devil beats you even though your using some slick sweet science, Little Jimmy goes on and on about how he beat your up ect. Old granny fatty has ago and also with her limp arm manages to get a win. Everyone is pointing and laughing, so you just have to do it, bring out the real life left hook and show them whats up. I think il have to give this game a miss with the family.

I will however send for Eskiboy, I know hes here and im sure is a big fan of this game, back in the day we couldnt put down our wiimote playing wii sport all the time beating each others high scores and each other, giving each other high fives and gg gg all the time, was true sportsmanship.

I thought a block was indicated by a blue circle close to the chest. Isn't this a throw or other move being pierced by her glove?

Yeah, I was pretty tired when I posted it. Totally meant throw. ^^

Been quietly following this. Hype is slowly getting built, but I'm pushing more towards a purchase on this. I hope the FGC can help it build some popularity without pushing it into a non casual friendly zone.

.

I thought Dash was done by a button. Do you have to aim in the direction you wish to dash as well, that's why the controller was getting punches as input?

This is extremely important. No more shoehorning stupid motion controls into series, Hates Wii for doing this...hope this means they learned from it.
Considering the game seems to be built originally with the motion controls in mind and the mechanics of independently-attacking hands and the punch-curving in particular seeming to benefit them, as long as the controls are responsive can it really be called "shoehorning stupid motion controls" into the game? The very concept of this game probably wouldn't exist without them.

Not gonna lie, I want a character who has those toy sticky hands for arms.
...Hell, I know exactly what you're talking about and now I want that too. I do feel like some sort of rubber-band character is practically a given already anyway.

A big tell about how this game was designed was that to throw a proper punch you should add torque to increase power. But during the Switch presentation they mentioned you can aim your fists by twisting. By focusing on weak jabs and other quick hand gestures like blocking Nintendo streamline the motion controls as much as possible so they are competitive with button inputs.

It was also mentioned in a NYC demo vid I was watching the player could tell that motion controls are analog in nature. If you throw out a weak jab your punch is more floaty than a strong jab. That means with motion controls you have an edge in making your punches less predictable than button users (unless the buttons are analog as well which I seriously doubt)

Since I found a better gif maker, here's some more gif from the instruction videos.

Punch grazing the opponent's arms and damaging it.

How about you stop shoehorning your opinions onto everyone? Your dislike of motion controls doesn't make them objectively bad or shoehorned. That's just your personal tastes not meshing with them. Nothing about their implementation here seems shoehorned and the game is built around them, much like Splatoon was with gyros, and they worked excellently (to the point of putting people who didn't use them at a clear disadvantage with some weapons)

Any excuse to include a witch in a game is a good excuse :3
100% agree, but I prefer witch designs to stay away from Halloween aesthetics. Make it more about folk traditions, healing, potions, connection with nature, etc.

If this game got skins like Overwatch I would be SO STOKED

Has there been any mention of a single player campaign for this? That would make it an instant buy for me.
I believe so? I'm not totally sure, I've been mostly focused on the 1v1 stuff.

Any word on how this plays with the Pro Controller?
I'm guessing it'll be left stick to move, right stick to punch. I'm imaging punching will be as simple as flicking the stick forward and then angling it to direct your punch. Everything else (jump, dash) should be on the shoulder buttons. Punch might be assigned to a button too, but you basically have to use the right stick to guide the punch.

They have two arms. Can't use one stick for both.
