Theory: Skyrim for Switch will have HD rumble and maybe motion controls

That sounds like something they would have shouted from the mountaintop.
Given Bethesda's track record it's much more likely that they're just trying to make it as bug free as possible get it to work.

As far as motion controls go. Bethesda did say Skyrim VR was in the works.
Maybe this is Skyrim VR and Bethesda is waiting for Nintendo to release the SCD to announce Switch VR Skyrim.

I'm just making questions.

I remember seeing this motion control theory before (probably from you Skittz0413) and at the time found it very unlikely. However, being so late after both launch and the other releases of Skyrim SE makes me think they better be doing something else interesting with it.

Hmmmm....I've played too much Skyrim, but I'd really like to support developer's using HD rumble, if it is as good as Nintendo/demo-goers say.

I highly doubt there will be any sort of motion controls. That would be a big undertaking from the developer, and probably not worth it.

This thread has made me think about the possibility of the Xenoverse 2 port using HD Rumble as well. They could get really inventive with that.

I got to be honest, I really don't need more Skyrim in my life, but if they go all in on this rumble stuff I'll probably dive in again. It does seem like a perfect fit for Skyrim, sounds very novel.

That may be the one feature to make me get this game. If it doesn't have HD Rumble and Gyro I don't really have a reason to pick it up.

Skyrim could benefit a lot from some unique motion controls... yes I said it.

They need to make the switch version stand out and honestly, looking back at metroid prime trilogy, maybe adding motion controls would improve replaying the game.

You know, if Bethesda goes the extra mile on this port with what the OP is suggesting, I'm in.

I was almost certainly already going to go for the game on the Switch due to portability, but if they implement HD rumble I see it rising on the must-buy list for this fall. If true, it'll definitely assure a purchase from me day one.

Skittz, if Bethesda doesn't implement your theory I will now be very disappointed in Skyrim on Switch. That just sounds too damn cool.

Could be cool. And somewhat unrelated, this is confirmed to not be the newer remaster right? Its like the original 360 version?

No, that is not confirmed. On the contrary, improved lighting can be seen in the Switch trailer compared to the 2011 version. The only reason there is speculation is because "Special Edition" is not present under the logo on Nintendo's official image of upcoming titles, but there could be a number of explanations for that.

This thread would suggest it is closer to the SE version from the limited amount of footage we saw.

That footage hasn't been confirmed to run on Switch hardware but judging by the Switch's specs it should be doable.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Nah it's not happening OP.

If Bethesda couldn't be asked to fix 5 year old game bugs that still reside in the game for the Special Edition (that the community have long since fixed) than I don't see them spending money to integrate exclusive hardware features on the Switch version.

This is a really good thought and probably accurate.
I would buy Skyrim for the first time if this is true.

My guess is they are optimizing a Switch edition that runs the SE of the game. If they get some extra time maybe they can add some of these ideas in.

Probably Skyrim: Switch Edition.

They could revamp lock picking to use the rumble if you could feel the clicking of the tumblers in the lock.

I actually really want this... Of course right now I'm playing Skyrim on XBOne... so I'd need to be ready to start a whole new playthrough by then... I hate starting Skyrim from scratch. One of the worst intros in gaming leading into a game I can't put down.

Been considering this since you first mentioned it a bit back. Glad you made the thread. :)

It's a perfect fit, really. Let's hope Bethesda agrees!

This could easily be nintendos money paying for this

Great OP, neat idea of how to implement the HD rumble. I really hope this is the sort of thing we see. I guess it depends on how easy the thing is to code into the game.

See, that thought crossed my mind too, but Zelda BotW also uses HD rumble and Nintendo hadn't mentioned that either. I have no idea why. This can be something they focus on at E3 anyway, since the game doesn't release until Fall.

I can understand not focusing on HD rumble, since it really doesn't play on a stream. It's like VR, hands-on personal impressions are infinitely more effective at selling the feature. But motion controls would drive home a point that many people have been concerned with about this port. Why should anybody care about playing a game they already own on other platforms, as a Switch title? Does portability really do enough to make this different?

A demo of motion controls makes that case instantly, and wordlessly.

man this would be awesome

I cannot wait to try out hd rumble for myself because it sounds like the real deal and could be a total game changer in regards to game feel and sensory feedback in video games, making controls more satisfying and increasing immersion

I really hope they are working in making it a proper Switch game and not a quick lazy port.
Having said that, i never played Skyrim so I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the game when it comes out if reviews are good.

Same. Now you see why we all hate Nintendo! We create expectations and fantasys of what could happen and in the end it never happens! lol

Me and my friend discussed this at the Switch event after playing 1-2 Switch. Would be a neat addition and it's maybe why the game isn't ready for launch yet.

Oh, but I'm not really expecting to see motion controls. If Skyrim is coming to VR around the same time then sure, you'd probably see motion controls on the Switch, but I'd say it's much more likely to see something fairly innocuous like HD rumble than full on motion controls.

Again, HD rumble works fine without motion controls. The pro controller has it.

Obviously this is something I want but I didn't think it would be likely until I saw the delay and remembered that quote from Todd Howard. I think this is fairly likely looking at the way Bethesda announced support. It could be something Nintendo is pushing hard for (maybe monetarily).

Thanks guys, was just going off the threads from the reveal night, and sounded like, and from peoples impressions that it was the original game.

If they do do these additions from the OP I could see them giving the game a new Subtitle, sort of like they did with all the ports on the WiiU. Theory time, perhaps this game doesnt have a subtitle yet because they are trying to keep these additions under wraps? Maybe their tied together. But yeah Im not holding my breath.
I didnt really care for Skyrim on 360, and had no intentions of going back. Maybe this could do it but it'd be a long shot.

I brought up the same thing the other day! It would be perfect for lockpicking. Getting a sense of tension as to whether you're lockpick is going to snap.

You guys are expecting way too much out of this 'HD rumble'.

More advanced haptics really aren't going to change anything about how Skyrim plays. It's useful for gimmicky titles like the marble stuff in 1,2, Switch, but outside of that it's likely to be used in a very limited fashion.

Interestingly, it'd be pretty neat since Switch ships with dual fully motion enabled motion controllers, so you could actually carry it over to the two-hand combat system in the game. And they both have joysticks so you'd retain full movement control if you wanted as well.

Bethesda are grandmasters at making every interaction feel hollow and pointless, I'm sure they'll work their magic again <3 <3 <3

Have you tried it? Basically every impression I've read has been astoundingly positive on this feature. It certainly depends on how easy it is to implement for stuff like I mentioned in the OP, but if it's not terribly different from normal rumble then I don't see why it won't enhance the gameplay immersion.

Still want to know if it's the remastered, the 2011 vanilla, or something in between.

My money is on somewhere in between. Judging by the footage comparison it looks quite similar to the remastered version, but again we don't know if that was running on Switch hardware.

Sure that's possible but it doesn't make sense for Nintendo to be financially invested in a 5+ year old port but than again what the heck I'm saying? this is Nintendo we are talking about nothing makes sense with them.

Still not worth $60 if Jim Sterling got that price right but it would explain why it's taking so long to port this game.

Additionally if they are offering a seamless way to switch a select few weapons and magic types with motion and touch screen controls instead of always using the menu that would be very cool for immersion and wouild make me wonder how such a system would work in games like Dragon Age.
