What do you expect out of Xbox's E3 Conference?

This is the conference I am most interested in. The legendary Scorpio will finally show what it can do. Or maybe show something else...

It won't be a new gen but Microsoft would be silly to not advertise the system in a "new gen fashion" (no Xbox One name/branding, many ads, major launch event, etc.) based on their current position.

That's what I've been saying. People act like just because the PS4 Pro wasn't shot to the moon and back with advertising the Scorpio won't be treated like an event by Microsoft.

Last year, Sony had to deal with launching the Pro, the slim, and PSVR. That, and they are far ahead of the game. Thanks to their position, they have no incentive to make tons of noise about the mentioned hardware. Microsoft on the other hand do.

Of course Scorpio isn't a new generation, but lets not pretend that Microsoft won't treat it like the next big thing come E3 and holiday this year.

You mean the sudden surge of "insiders" that we've been having in the past few weeks?
Or Matt and Shinobi?
Shinobi said something about it, unless they have a studio hidden he doesn't know about or something like that.

Anyways

- Start off with Scorpio similar to the XB1 S E3 2016. Leave the price out.
- Say how they're focusing on games people will be playing before E3 2018 and bring up the cancellation of Scalebound as to why they don't want to announce games so far out. Mention how they have great games coming in 2018 and to stay tuned to E3 2018 to find out more. IF rumours are true about a bleak 2018+, this buys them a year aswell.
- Walk on stage and say all MS first party games will come with three modes (XB1 mode, 1080/60/bells and whistles mode, 4K XB1 graphics mode). Say all games shown today will be played on Scorpio and every title shown will be capable of running at native 4K, show off the games in 1080/60/bells and whistles mode.

(Games in no particular order)
- Crackdown 3. Comes with 1+2 BC and Halo 6 beta
- Sea of Thieves
- State of Decay 2
- Forza 7
- Cuphead, Ashen, Below, One or two other big indie games
- Ori 2
- Indie sizzle reel
- AAA game releasing that fall (Possible remaster)
- Assassins Creed
- FIFA 18
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Trailer for VR showing off Minecraft, Forza 7, Fallout 4, Skyrim and others.

- Platform features coming soon and maybe a mention about BC.
- Close the conference off with Phil saying "Oh one last thing, we forgot something at the beginning of our conference.. Scorpio will be $399 starting this October" *drops mic*

I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

If the whole conference is only scorpio and halo/gears/forza, I'm gonna be disappointed.

I hope they show more than that while also showing the nitty gritty details of the scorpio. Fully expecting a 400-450 price tag.

In my opinion, $399 isn't really a mic-drop moment, unless it's like 6.5-7TF or has a Zen CPU.

They said it will have a 6tflops GPU so it's going to be more powerful than that anyway when you factor in CPU etc. But I don't know how many tflops that would add :p

There's also Frankies comments about it being beefier than expected, so I think it's definitely gonna be more powerful than just 6 tflops but by how much who knows.

Nah a good i7 only has like ~180 GFLOPS, CPUs aren't measured on that metric.

E3 predictions thread? E3 predictions thread.

Scorpio.
Fall 2017.
6 to 6.5TF.
Compatible with Oculus VR.
Will be the console platform for some AAA VR-implementations like Fallout 4 VR.
$399. $450 so that the CPU isn't gimped.

As for games, my expectations hasn't changed.

1) halo 5 campaign dlc featuring blue team. Either before halo 1 or leading to halo 6

2) battletoads

3) return of either banjo or Conker

4) Scorpio versions of every first party title past/future

5) end with Perfect dark trailer

What I expect to be there:
Scorpio obviously
Halo 6 trailer
Halo 3 Anniversary announcement

What I want to be there:
A new, interesting IP announcement
Alan Wake 2 announcement
Ryse 2 announcement
Gears 2 ultimate edition

If they get a few off my list I'll be happy, I have little interest in Crackdown, Sea of Thieves or State of Decay.

^^
@ $450 so cpu is not gimped

Forget about what I expect. Here is what I want. This is mostly copy/pasted from another thread but I've edited the list slightly.

1) E3 starts with Scorpio reveal. Priced at $399. Designed to look like Xbox One S, but slightly bigger. Sleek, runs cool, with internal power supply, 6.5TF, Zen processor. November 2017 release date.

*Microsoft confirms that all Xbox One games will run on Scorpio, and any game that has dynamic resolution or dynamic frame rate will automatically receive modest bumps. I.E. if Witcher 3 dips from 30fps to 25fps occasionally on Xbox One, it will no longer do so on Scorpio. If Halo 5 dips from 1080p to 720p occasionally on Xbox One, it will no longer do so on Scorpio.

*Microsoft also announces that just like PS4 Pro, games can have Scorpio patches for vastly improved performance, which includes downsampled 1080p for owners of normal HDTVs, and 1440p/4K resolution for other games. Multiple options (such as 1440p/60fps and 4k/30fps) will be available, just like PS4 Pro.

*All 360 BC games will also be BC on Scorpio. And they will run better on Scorpio.

2) Atlus CEO comes on and says "We are pleased to announced we've been purchased by Microsoft".

*Persona 5 not cancelled for PS3 or PS4 (because Microsoft is such a good guy).
*Persona 5 port announced for Xbox One.
*Persona 4 Golden remastered announced for Xbox One.
*Atlus announces they are also working on a brand new JRPG IP (exclusive to Xbox).

3) Microsoft announces they have bought Thekla (Jonathon Blow studio) and Playdead (Inside and Limbo devs) to join 1st-party stable.

*The Witness and Inside are announced to have standalone disc releases.
*Thekla and Playdead are both working on new exclusive puzzle-game IPs for Xbox.
*Braid is announced as BC on 360, and Braid Remastered is available for download at E3 (at a cost of $4.99 for anyone who owns the 360 version) with a new 1000 gamerscore.

4) Microsoft announces the creation of a new JRPG 1st-party dev based in Osaka, called Microsoft Osaka Studios.

*The studio is comprised primarily of former devs that made Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey
*Their first game is an original JRPG IP.

5) Bonnie Ross from 343 comes on stage with the head of Rare.

*They announce that 343 Studios is working on Perfect Dark 3, developed 100% by 343 with some key Rare employees providing input
*343 announces that half their team is hard at work on Perfect Dark 3, with the other half spending significant resources to fix Master Chief Collection

6) Bonnie Ross stays on stage but the heads of Rare leave, replaced by the heads of Bioware

*They announce a Halo WRPG similar to Mass Effect 1. Developed by Bioware with input from key 343 members. You play exclusively as a female Spartan.
*The game will take place during the original Halo 1, 2, and 3 trilogy.
*You visit Halo rings, Earth, different human colonies, and various Covenant planets. No Prometheans.

7) Then Bonnie + Bioware guys leave, and Rare heads come back on stage with Playtonic Devs

*First, Rare shows off a new Sea of Thieves trailer, and they confirm the game is coming out September 2017. They confirm the game is not an MMO, not free-to-play, can be playable fully single player, and will have a massive campaign with dungeons and side quests, just like Wind Waker.

*They also show a Yooka-Laylee trailer (and at the end of the trailer it says coming out October 2017 on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Switch) because Microsoft is such a good guy and won't obfuscate the details of any third-party partnerships.

*After the Yooka-Laylee trailer, we hear a banjo tune and the familiar banjo guffaw. Then a Banjo Kazooie 3 trailer shows. Co-developed by Playtonic and Rare

8) Sam Lake from Remedy comes on stage with Phil Spencer. Microsoft announces they've purchased Remedy.

*Quantum Break story expansion DLC is announced. You play exclusively as Beth Wilder.
*$30. Can be purchased standalone. Has its own 1000 gamerscore. Can be launched within Quantum Break.
*They also announce Alan Wake 1 Remastered, with 2000 gamerscore. Has all DLC and American Nightmare.

9) The Coalition come on stage with Rod Fergusson

*Public apology from Rod Fergusson re: microtransactions in Gears 4. The cost of microtransactions is dramatically reduced.
*Confirmed that game has been changed so that the possibility of duplicate skins/characters is now ZERO.
*Currency drops for normal game play dramatically improved.
*New story DLC announced where you play as Kait and JD. Kait is the default player one character. Takes place shortly after the end of Gears 4. Titled "Kait's Epilogue". $20.

10) Microsoft announce they have purchased Twisted Pixel and they are working on Splosion Man 2.

11) Microsoft announces there will be no Forza in the year 2017. Instead, the Turn10 and Playground teams are hard at work on Scorpio patches for Forza Motorsport 5 and 6, and Forza Horizon 2, 3, and Fast/Furious.

12) Cuphead has a trailer and release date (July 2017). It wins game of the show. Platforming levels are dramatically improved. The Cuphead dev (Studio MDHR) announces they have been purchased by Microsoft and will join the company as a 1st-party developer.

13) Phil Fish comes on stage with Phil Spencer, and they announce the creation of a new 1st-party studio, headed by Phil Fish. Will have same name as Phil Fish's old dev: Polytron Corporation

*Fez announced BC on XB1, and a Fez Xbox One port is announced. Just like with Braid, it has 1000 gamerscore and can be purchased for a reduced price if you own the 360 game.
*Phil Fish announces he is working on a new puzzle game IP exclusive to Xbox One.

14) The Fullbright Company comes on stage and announces they have been purchased by Microsoft and will join the company as a 1st-party developer.

*They spend 2 minutes on stage talking about the success Gone Home has had
*They show a trailer for Tacoma and announce it will be available later that month, June 2017
*They also announce they are working on a new exclusive first-person puzzle game IP for Xbox One.

15) Insomniac comes on stage with Phil Spencer to announce Sunset Overdrive 2

*Projected release date of Holiday 2018
*Insomniac remains third-party developer and will retain ownership of Sunset Overdrive IP.
*Sunset Overdrive 2 will be console exclusive to Xbox One, play Anywhere with Xbox One and Windows 10, but will also have a Steam release on day one.

16) Chris Charla from ID@Xbox comes on stage and announces that a truckload of previously Sony-exclusive indie games will start getting Xbox One ports

*2-minute trailer shows various indie games that will be coming out soon.
*Then the developer of The Talos Principle comes on stage and says the Xbox One port is available right now to download and purchase.

17) The head of Xbox Japan comes on stage and reveals that Microsoft has created a new fund to finance ports of Japanese games to Xbox One

*They show a trailer that shows various big games like Kingdom Hearts remasters, Final Fantasy VII, Shenmue 3, Guilty Gear, and Tales of Xillia coming soon to Xbox One.
*The trailer very conspicuously omits games like Senran Kagura and Galgun because I really don't like those games and I don't want them included in this fantasy.

18) Finally, Shannon Loftis comes on stage to show off Crackdown 3, Minecraft and State of Decay 2

*She announces Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 are both very close to completion and are coming out Holiday 2017
*She shows a trailer for both games.
*No mention of the cloud whatsoever for Crackdown 3. They confirm Crackdown 3 single player will be 100% playable offline.
*Minecraft 2 is announced, coming to all platforms: 360, PS3, Xbox One, Scorpio, PS4, PS4 Pro, Steam, Windows 10, Android, iOS, Switch.

19) Then, Phil Spencer says, "and one more thing". The auditorium goes dark. You hear a chainsaw and you see The Coalition's logo, and it says "The Coalition and Microsoft Studios present Shangheist". 2-minute trailer. The NY Times and Washington Post says "They did it!!! The sons of bitches actually did it!!!" on their front pages.

The list of first-party devs/games would then be:

343 Studios (working on Perfect Dark 3 and fixing Master Chief Collection)
Rare (working on Sea of Thieves and Banjo Kazooie 3)
Atlus (working on Persona 5, Persona 4 Remastered, and new JRPG IP)
Thekla (working on new puzzle game from Jonathan Blow)
Playdead (working on new puzzle game similar to Inside)
Microsoft Osaka Studios (working on new JRPG IP)
Remedy (working on Quantum Break DLC and Alan Wake Remastered)
The Coalition (working on Shangheist and Gears 4 DLC)
Twisted Pixel (working on Splosion Man 2)
Turn 10 / Playground (working on legacy Forza patches)
Mojang (working on Minecraft 2)
Studio MDHR (working on Cuphead)
Polytron Corporation (working on Fez port, new puzzle-game IP)
Fullbright Company (working on Tacoma, new first-person puzzle-game IP)

Insomniac (2nd-party) (working on Sunset Overdrive 2)
Undead Labs (2nd-party) (working on State of Decay 2)
Reagent Games (2nd-party) (working on Crackdown 3)
Bioware (2nd-party) (working on Mass Effect WRPG)

Ohh well like I edited in there's also Frankie's comments too

I think even at 6Tflops $399 would be big, most people are expecting $450-499+. Plus by leaving the price out of the official reveal it makes people think it'll be expensive and they want to avoid the sticker shock, then boom at the end $399.

Other than that, I think its a very interesting list of expectations. 343 + Rare for Perfect Dark in particular.

How can it be part of the Xbox One family and not share the name?

Game and accessory compatibility. Xbox One games will obviously work on both models so the Xbox One will still be the base.

I do expect Microsoft to market the fuck out of Scorpio - they will make it a big deal, certainly an awful lot more than Sony did with the Pro but its still going to share the same library and accessories and it will be called the Xbox One (something).

No gamer left behind and all that.

But I think that they will build up more excitement from hardcore and (a smaller number of) general gamers by not having the Xbox One name. There was already a new Xbox One model last year. Another model in 2017 with the "Xbox One" name would make more people ask/wonder why they would want it in comparison to if the model had a different name.

Branding is going to play a bigger role in whether or not the Scorpio succeeds than many people think in my opinion.

How could you even expect a system supposedly making 4k and console settings natively to be 399$ While same year there is a 720p machine releasing for 100$ lower. I expect 449$ at lowest(and probably only option if they are not gonna do 499$

What?

If you're referring to XB1.. Games aren't even 720p any more. It will also be $199 this time next year. That's a $200 difference.

Oh

Well Nintendo is Nintendo. They do what they do.. I don't see what Nintendo has to do with Scorpio.

XB1 and PS4 are both more powerful than Nintendo and $50 cheaper right now, so..

They could call it the Xbox 1000 or something like that. It kinda removes the 'One' branding and keeps it at the same time. But I don't see any real need, providing they choose something good that stands out from the rest. The marketing and value proposition will be most important though, not the name.

Their E3 will definitely hinge around the new hardware, and they will push it as the console to buy from now on with XB1S taking a back seat.

Crackdown and Forza 7 will be the showcase games, both available this holiday. Both in Native 4K with Forza being it's usual solid 60fps. One other big game for the holidays too, like they usually do.

Custom controllers expanded to more countries. Maybe the possibility of getting a custom Scorpio too.

Snazzy new OS and XBL features. Maybe OG Xbox games but unlikely.

VR is the Oculus 2. Also releasing this holiday and console exclusive to Scorpio yada yada. Minecraft VR and some kind of VR exclusive. Plus support from other games.

Playground Games secret IP shown to end the show. Exclusive to Xbox and Win10 coming 2018.

That's from July. It was upgraded since then.

This is from late October which says the XB1 version runs up to 1000P with the day 1 patch, and 900P without it. Which is the same as the PS4 version I believe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aExaGlCjQr0

UPDATE 24/10/16: We've since analysed the game with the day one patch installed, and can confirm Xbox One can potentially run at up to 1000p - higher than the 900p first reported. This around PS4's resolution in the best case.

It does dip to 720P in some cases but from the sounds of it (from DF and other outlets) it's not a common occurrence

I know there's going to be a meltdown everywhere if they do this, but after all this cancellations MS doesn't have much to show that's being made by themselves so I think they're going to moneyhat some exclusives or temporal exclusivities and they are going to show them on E3.

I agree with all of what you say other than the naming, its going to keep the Xbox One branding.

They just have to position the new console as a monster and if you want to experience the biggest games in the best way, then Scorpio is how you do that. Microsoft are usually on point when it comes to marketing so as someone who works in advertising im expecting to see big things from them.

It's going to be fun to watch it unfold and to see if they learned from the way that Sony promoted the Pro and the areas that they can improve.

I'm expecting at least 2 Megatons from them. They have to ha e secured some insane deals since beginning the development of Scorpio.

Couple of quick points.

Person who said Microsoft would purchase Atlus. Atlus is owned by Sega. So Microsoft would have to purchase Sega.

Person who said VR Minecraft. This would not appeal to most of us. But this would be insanely popular.

Also I still think you see KOTOR and Fable on Scorpio at E3.

I also think Scorpios Xbox interface will be radically different than Xbone. Something like a mix between Win 10 and Outlook.com web services.

Hmmm,

I expect to see....

- a huge scorpio push/reveal with price & launch date (while also reassuring those that don't plan on upgrading).

- Crackdown 3 launching this year

- Forza 7 will be there (will be something to showcase Scorpio power)

- Some xbox live enhancements (honestly I wish they just push some statement about these things during e3 week and not at the conference it self).

- Expecting at lest 3 new ip's all with gameplay footage.

- Sea of Thieves and a classic old rare ip being revived.

- bigger emphasis/expanded XPA

- aaaand got nothing else...surely there will be more....I hope...they have a good E3.

Wish em luck!

I'm expecting at least 2 Megatons from them. They have to ha e secured some insane deals since beginning the development of Scorpio.

Define "megatons", please.

Right now, with the current install base landscape, they won't be able to make a "megaton deal" with some 3rd party developer without paying A LOT of money, especially after last years RoTTR deal, as they basically have to pay the developer for not publishing a game on a console with a 60mn install base by fall 2017.

Furthermore, they weren't even able to get that RDR2 marketing deal, which is actually insane, given how much that would have helped to push the new console.

So, don't get me wrong here. MS is capable of devivering one or two "megatons", like a $399 Scorpio, or a proper new IP from one of their own studios that blows everyone away. But don't bet your money on a money-hatted 3rd party deal. At least not when we are talking "megabombs".
