Phil Spencer "Played my first games on early Scorpio unit."

I don't know what Phil's objective with this kind of tweet is?

Certainly not to sell more Xbox One's. To discourage people from buying a PS4 / Switch / PC? To hype up an existing Xbox fan base? Or is it just trolling for retweets?

Just being honest and transparent.

As a department head, he's going to have a proud moment of playing a console in which he directed to creation. Let the guy enjoy his job and share it to the community.

Looking forward to seeing anything they publicly release about Scorpio.

They want to prevent interest in Scorpio dying down. They'll keep these tidbits going until the reveal.

I think what he really meant was that it was quick to take current games and make it run on Scorpio. Allowing developers a lot of time to refine and improve games on Scorpio instead of focusing on making it playable. I don't think it was a very well worded tweet either way.

I've asked Phil for clarification, he has generally responded in the past :)

You'll have to expand on that. Because unless I have missed something, it's just a more powerful Xbox One.

The Scorpio is not just about the console itself. Scorpio's launch as a 'statment of intent' has the potential to 'reset' MS's intentions in regards to how they do business. More first party investments in new studios, less reliance on safe franchises, more looking into their own portfolio of IP's they are sitting on ect.

Think outside the box, its not just about the power of the HW. If MS play their cards right, it could be about signalling a real rethinking of their strategy about catering to their fans.

Hope games scale automatically to the superior hardware, performance wise at least. It's why I haven't bought a PS4 Pro, that and lack of 4k blu ray.

How is this a reset and invest in more first party studios? Some of us expect more from them since they've been in the game for 3 generations. Where's Banjo Kazooie Threeie?

doing that automatically would mean every game would have to run at dynamic res or unlocked FPS, which generally speaking they can't mandate outside of encouraging first parties to do that.

Is this just your own interpretation? How does Scorpio change anything?
They are aiming to boost interest to their brand with a high-end console aimed at the hardcore. They don't need Scorpio to divert their business strategy or branch out with new franchises. They should have done that years ago.

Are some people honestly thinking this will be a new dawn for Xbox and the entire Microsoft gaming division or something? Sounds like this is just wishful thinking, to be honest.

That seems like something you just made up. Especially the part investment in new first party studios and risky games.

He wants to see his name on NeoGAF. Success.

Uhm no ? the whole point of scorpio is better graphics..

The whole point is to not die in the US and UK.

But have you ever heard any department head at any large corporation tweet something like this? Apple, Sony, Nintendo, even other depts at MS.

This is more in line with line a start up company that does not strong industry connections yet that is trying to get attention. Attention of the rest of the industry. Attention of venture capital. Attention from potential partners etc. It just seems weird to me for head of Xbox to use twitter for this purpose.

I guess the only other person I can think of who does this is Elon Musk. But he kind of runs his company like a start up too.

I'm not saying i know what MS are or are not doing. I'm just saying they have the potential to make this launch far more than just about doing shallow PR of slightly more pixels or better graphics of games that you can get on their previous hardware for cheaper, or better on PC.

If they go in like that, they are going to fail miserably with this device.

...As we all know putting out new hardware into the marketplace traditionally brings in interest from the industry in a myriad of ways, look at the switch reveal.

MS should be aiming Scorpio with the intent of bringing to Xbox tons of new experiences along with that investment into Scorpio and surge of interest from their new console launch

I think at this point fans are pinning all of their hopes and dreams onto Scorpio.
Wonder how that's going to work out for them when it turns out just to be a Xbox One Pro (which is basically the entire pitch for the device in the first place).

How the hell did you come up with that fantasy scenario from one E3 that didn't even speak about any of that?

The Xbox One S is a very nice piece of hardware, but the software is still ****.
I hope they get their stuff together with the next big update.

Nah, they'll release it with Fable 4, Scalebound, Phantom Dust remake, Conker, PGR5 and Shangheist.

World wide release without tiers, and direct marketing in mainland Europe.

Scorpio.

People seem to be misunderstanding so let me clarify...

I'm not saying Xbox WILL refocus their efforts in line with the Scorpio.

I was initially responding to a poster who essentially proclaimed 'i just care about the specs!'

But as we all know, without a real focus and real strategy the specs dont matter.

So i was challenging that person...there should be far more to consider in regards to what MS SHOULD be doing to align with the Scorpio launch than just chest beating about better graphical fidelity. That won't help the Xbox brand in the slump it seems to be in now.

But it's a bit weird that you say that when their own reveal was basically 'look at these hot specs! It plays regular Xbox One games with super graphics and no-one is left behind!'.

So will there or wont there be Scorpio exclusive games? His second tweet seems to suggest there might well be some.

Why do you have to overcomplicate things? The guy is proud, he even says so in his post. He wanted to post it to the wider community. That's all.

This doesn't usually happen because companies don't really tend to publicly announce a product a year and a half before it's due to launch.

well scorpio is all about specs to me. Of course there has to be more, but that can be played (I assume you mean games) on a regular xbox one too.
What I want from scorpio is not equal to what I want from the xbox brand as a whole.

Is this post the start of that thing where MS can't talk about or promote their own stuff again?

I hope so. Hilarious times.

Wouldn't surprise me if the game Phil played on the Scorpio unit was Crackdown 3.

Feels like MS are doing what Nintendo did with Zelda and are holding back Crackdown 3 for a Scorpio launch title.
