Mass Effect: Andromeda - Cinematic trailer

Except for milquetoast MaleRyder, this was a pretty cool shot of the squad

Squad looks great! I am so down with this game.

This trailer just showing an antagonist and giving us no reason for why he's different does not do anything but make me less enthused about the game. I was hopeful a game about colonization would be about the complex relationships between alien races and the struggle to keep peace and balance whilst finding a new home, instead that part seems to be relegated to side quests whilst the main quest is "defeat generic bad guy or your mission will fail!"

This.

Also everything just feels like it lacks imagination. From character/alien designs, to the worlds that we've seen, to the music... just not the tone I was hoping for.

I'll still give it a chance since we've still seen so little and because I really, really want to like this game lol.

Can we like Mass Effect again now?

Yes, but you have to say "I'm not feeling it" and "SPACE INQUISITION" in front of a mirror three times with the lights off first.

Then, if Drew Karpyshyn's angry spirit doesn't emerge to steal your life force away to some astral plane, you may like Mass Effect.

So you admit the trailer doesn't tell you the Archon's role and place in Andromeda and then speculate that he's a generic big bad that doesn't have anything to do with race relations and trying to find a new home while keeping peace?

This type of dubious reasoning is why, ftr, it seems some don't want this game to be good.

Nah, i want this to be good.

But Bioware has been using this template for a long time and it's in all their recent games.

The lines they gave Archon doesn't inspire confidence either.

So i'm sceptical that they'll deviate from their comfort zone.

Will still buy but the characters look a little bit cartoony for my liking. Ryders head looks a little large for his body too

Weird it's like it's a Mass Effect game

Sure it could just be the trailer focusing on the safe parts rather than original elements. Nothing in a franchise forces its creators to sell the new characters and events as new versions of the old ones with some tweaks when they chose to create a new cast, but the marketing department may have thought that playing it safe here was the way to go.

In ME1 you didn't even know about the Reapers until 2/3 of the way through the game.

No but that eventually discovery of a much greater threat really did wonders for the story and scale of the threat. It wasn't just you vs Saren because
he was just a Reaper pawn that had been manipulated by Sovereign and that realization lead to the discovery that the Reapers were about to come back again.

I have to say I really don't like the voices and faces of the characters. Based on the brief material they've shown, they just seem to lack the personality that characters like Mordin, Thane, Garrus, Wrex, Kasumi, and Zaeed had. Hopefully, they feel better in the game than in the trailers.

Didn't really get many story hooks from that, but it is an rpg and seems to be closer to ME1 in many ways. I am probably down. I will play this spring and save Horizon for my birthday.

We see him say "Surrender... or burn" in literally his only line of dialogue in the trailer. He's also a single person, not a race, and none of the friendlier races share his look, hence why I don't exactly see him as being part of a native species and more of an "ancient evil" than anything else. If the main quest were about complex diplomancy that could potentially lead to war, and the Archon was just someone you could piss off, why would that single thread of the potential story be the main part of the trailer? There's nothing in there to show that he's any different from other big evil bad guys who want to stop you for some reason.

And stop with the "you don't want this game to be good" rhetoric. Nobody wants this game to fail, but nothing I've personally seen so far has made me excited. Why can't I be hesitant without it being some sort of spite move against the developers?

That wasn't really as good as I was hoping.

Visually the faces look pretty rough to me. The plot seems less interesting than I was hoping a colonisation-based plot would be.

Ok, that was way more epic than I've expected after previous trailers. Really got me pumped up, but I'm still not sure which version should I pick... PC high graphics requirments where are you? :D

It seems like some do at least in every thread so far.

You can be hesitent about it and there's nothing wrong with that but there is a clear progression with some people hating on the game for no reason.

People don't have to give reasons for why they "hate" (or, as is often the case, don't love unconditionally) something in just the same way people don't need to give reasons why they love something.

Looks like Mass Effect: Inquisition as I'd feared. If the baddie is just a typical baddie instead of there being political intrigue, warring factions etc. I will be hugely disappointed.

I honestly think Bioware jumped the shark a while ago.
