Mass Effect: Andromeda - Cinematic trailer

Meh, her design screams '2 edgy 4 me'. She just needs a nose ring and neck tatts for ultimate edginess and badass-ery, I'm sure someone will mod them in.

No, thats this

Mass Effect is beloved by different people for different reasons. I'm only a big fan of the series due to ME1. It's not a perfect game and it can be janky at times, but what it does well it does really well. The sequels are less space opera RPG and more standard corridor shooter with decent writing and interesting characters. Without ME1 to pull me in though, I'm not sure the BW name alone would have been enough to play 2&3. I'm sure BW is aware of this but it has to be difficult pleasing a fanbase that is really split on what the franchise is suppose to be.

I don't think thats a problem at all. I think it suffers from the same problems as RE: they value the industry trend more than the actual feedback.
You don't need to make it less space opera to make it more corridor shooter. I also think the writers are just not good enough. They should've brought back some of ME1 writers for Andromeda

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I thought Pink Scouter Dude looked awesome, haters be damned.

Well they brought a Halo 4 writer...

Can any GAFer tell us if Halo 4's story was good?

"Show, don't tell" is a core tenet of good writing in any form of media. ME1 (understandably, it's got a lot to cover) has a lot of telling where you're basically having the codex read to you to explain things, at least until you're off the Citadel the first time.

As you said it has a lot to cover, many alien races, cultures, political and economical status etc. Without info dumps it would leave stuff behind. In other games that would be ok but it's sci, space opera even. Info dump is a core tenet in this case

I don't really get this. An undercut is an insanely popular haircut these days. I teach sorority girls who get this cut. Being out of touch with what's hip is not the same thing as recognizing over-the-top edge.

Your additions there are even a description of a popular caster for League of Legends:

ME1 is a horrible as an action game, and underwhelming as an RPG. It's saved by story/character/lore being beyond what most games have.

I thought the questing in ME1 was great. Encountering that giant worm (forgot the name) in your Mako and fighting it was one of the best moment in gaming.

Happy with mostly everything I saw in the Initiative video. Definitely day 1 for me. Liking Cora the most out of all the humans easily. Great voice and look.

Overall I'd say I love the look and vibe of the game, maybe just initially not quite as much as the older titles or DAI. Looking forward to seeing exactly how it looks on my One :D

I enjoyed it, but it really depends on reading outside material (there are still kinks with that too, but nothing massive).

Eh, no, not really. Great sci-fi material finds a way to just show off everything you need. If something is so.... dry (for lack of a better word) that you can't get it to come up naturally, then just dump it in a codex and get it out of the way. And in ME, this is especially egregious since a codex exists in the game already. There's no reason for dialogue to exist with Tali where you ask her basic shit about the Flotilla; Shep is a character that should know this already, and so that info should be out of the way in a codex entry.

There aren't really any genres that should ever use info dumps (maybe something going for a historical thing like Battlefield 1 where you might fall back on dry narration, but that's a stretch).

Looks really cool - new & different things are awesome. I was just really hoping they'd have a whole bevy of new alien races for this game. What's the point of going to a new universe/galaxy if it's going to remain mostly the same? I can understand wanting carry over some of the series mainstays, but this is also a chance for the ME Universe to go into uncharted territory & craft its own identity. So far this game feels more like an extension or sequel to ME3 than breaking away & being its own thing.

I could be wrong about all this as of course the game isn't out & we've only seen a small bit of it, but I'm not super excited like I've been in the past for this franchise.

Game looks good. Seems like it'll be a fun adventure at least if not a complex or deep story.

Looking forward to the multiplayer as well. Loved ME3 MP.

Why would there be an overwhelming amount of new species in a tiny star cluster of Andromeda? People seem to be oblivious to the fact the game takes place in one tiny ass Helius star cluster. AKA equivalent to a singular star cluster in Mass Effect 1-3 without a Mass Relay. They have literally 99% of the galaxy to explore after this game.

Haven't we seen 3 or 4 new races?

When have we heard this talked about?

I got grudge sucked!
Why does GAF hate space Claire Underwood?

The only designs I didn't care for were the Ryder kids and you can alter those so no big deal to me.

The trailer felt a bit short.. but still hyped! It's good to see that there's gonna be a fun antagonist because I wasn't feeling this whole story of "you're just an explorer, you won't have weapons on your ship etc etc."

Space is fucking big. If anything, ME under utilized star clusters. Also, it could be that Andromeda's star clusters have more habitable planets.
And when you consider that Andromeda might not have mass relays, and mere FTL is somewhat slow for traveling anywhere else than within a star cluster...

I don't know why, all I see is the white rabbit from alice and Wonderland - cannot unsee it.

Exactly my point, it wouldn't make sense for BioWare to offload 20 entirely new species in a star cluster that roughly makes up 0.2% of the estimated 500 globular star clusters of the Andromeda Galaxy.

I highly doubt BioWare has the means to waste a Frostbite production budget conceptualizing, modelling and writing for 20 entire new species every game. They barely struggled with around 9 or 10 in Mass Effect 1 on janky-ass Unreal Engine 3 and none of them were fully fleshed out and properly realized until Mass Effect 2 and 3.

So I'll take 3 or 4 new species that are properly built and written from the ground up than a potato sack full of undeveloped, poorly conceptualized races to meet some arbitrary quota a person made up on a web forum.

They hyped up this guys as new Garrus;

Well, he certainly is going to have to make up for his looks with personality...

#NotMyGarrus

Both have the feline look down so they are both cute in my book. Pink guy still has to prove that he rivals Garrus' skill and rank as king of the bottle shooters however to earn my full attention.

Edgy is the best.

Shep x Jack for life. <3
Urgh yes, Jack's so good. Her outfit in 2 was a bit of a mess though tbh.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
I'm pretty sure they never said that, what they did say was that both would feature in the marketing, and they would alternate trailers (and they've done that, not counting the CES one as that was a demo not trailer).

In other news, loving the new crew, fresh faced. Liam and Cora look great.
Krogan could definitely be the new bro, seems very violent.
Not sure about default Ryder face now though....might need to customise I think (make a Shep clone, lol).

Yeah, and then they made the covers for both editions of the game be Papa Ryder, and douche Brother Ryder.

I'm glad that the squad mates appear to be wearing proper freaking attire to be running around the galaxy. Unlike taking Jack running around Haestrom like her skin shouldn't be on fire lol.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.

Like most things about Halo 4, it's pretty difficult to remember what happened. Such a bland game.

Anyways, this trailer does absolutely nothing for me. Im sure it will sell millions of copies, but it just looks like another "Space Jesus must save from the big bad" which is what I thought they were straying away from. The lack of new aliens is also disappointing, then throw the jank gameplay demos they've shown off on the pile and I can muster any excitement.

I was hoping they'd have both of the silblings faces on the cover. Shame.

Anyway, I'm buying this digitally so it's not that big of a deal to me. Still would have been cool to see a girl on a cover for a RPG video game again though.
