I'm playing Nintendo Switch tomorrow at PAX, what unanswered questions do you have?

UPDATE! Here's a direct link to my answers / impressions!

ORIGINAL POST:

Tomorrow, I'll be traveling to PAX South to cover it for FloKO. But what I'm most excited about is trying out Nintendo Switch for the first time. I'm going to try everything they've got, but I'm especially looking forward to ARMS.

What unanswered questions do you have that I can try and answer while I'm there?

For example: first thing I'm gonna do is try and hit the home button and share button to see what happens, and see if I can mess around in the UI.

I honestly don't think there's anything more to ask or know that isn't covered in multiple places already or has to be revealed by Nintendo or experienced in the full version of a game.

Joycon triggers; Digital or analog?

Answered in various places multiple times. Everyone says they're digital. Whatever uncertainty there is, you'll only be able to judge for yourself in the end as everyone will at best talk about a little "give" but will lean towards them clearly being digital.

Personal opinion of the comfort of joy-cons and controller.
Also if you can, opinions on Snipper Clips and ARMS (from pics I've seen they have both playable in the booth).

I'd like to know your experience of using the joycons with the strap. Does it help it function better as a standalone controller? Are they easy to use for people with big hands?
Also, is there any flimsiness with the joycons when in handheld mode? As in, do they wiggle at all or are the on there rock solid?

At this point I mostly care about software and os.

Unified account?
What OS level features are there?
How does lan switch linking work?
What's the friend app like and how does it integrate?
Any my Nintendo features?
Etc.

Can wii and wiiu controllers connect?

Maximum read/write speed of the Micro SD slot, meaning, SDXC I vs SDXC II, for loading digital games via the micro SD cards.

It's PAX. None of that is going to be answered at a public convention.

Is the screen glass or plastic!

I haven't found where it's been said anywhere!

As far as I know it's an IPS LCD screen.

I'd love to see the inside of the dock! Like, from the top.

Maybe this video will give you a good impression:

Wow, that looks good. I hadn't really paid attention to the Switch's screen when it was revealed. It's surreal as a Nintendo fan seeing a game like MK8 played on a device like that (even though I know Wii U wasn't exactly a Titan X).

How does the "d-pad" on the left joycon feel? Does it feel connected or does it feel like separate buttons?

This is a good question that hands-on time would reveal. I'm guessing we'll need the Pro controller (at least at launch) for a traditional D-pad feel, especially since those D-pad buttons become ABXY in 2-player, but I guess we'll see.

These are some excellent questions! Keep em comin! I'm going to do my best to answer them all. And for the record - I'm not expecting any real answers out of the booth workers like "when does xenoblade come out" or anything, lol.

This is more about stuff that I can answer with my own eyes, ears, and hands.

OK, here's a good question:

When the battery runs out while on the go, does the system go into a hibernate mode where everything is suspended, or does it shut off and you lose unsaved progress?

how barebones it is without the phone app

this stuff is disabled in the public demos.

dude is playing the thing at a PAX booth, not interviewing Reggie. :D

Does Mario Kart battle mode have blockfort?

not revealed yet, nobody can/will answer that.

I guess the touch screen won't work but, well, check it out.

Skylanders is the only game that uses it out of the currently announced and demoed ones.

Maybe my google abbilities are bad ... but I've never find an answer to this :

Can I use 8 joycons with 1 Switch? This is very important in my decision of getting bomberman.

Another little one ... don't forget to try the right joycon and tell us if it is as uncomfortable as some people say.

Thank you. Have fun!

For those attending hands on events, please try these suggestions for science:
  • With a demanding game running such as Zelda, check the top exhaust vent to feel the amount of air coming out of it in both Docked and Undocked modes. This is to understand how the fan behaves in Console and portable modes.
  • Grab a Joycon and look at the rail part that slides to the Switch. There's a metal rectangular surface with downard direction arrows on top. The idea is to look behind it to try and see the connection pins. Maybe a flash or light will be necessary to iluminate that part and take a picture.
  • Like wise, would like to see the Joycon connections at the sides of the Switch. Should be located at the bottom part of the sides where the Joycon slide.
  • Grab the R Joycon with IR image camera pointing up like a Wii Remote and try to see how accesible the buttons are. Try to hold it in different postions: SR/SL buttons up/down. With Joycon strap attached etc. The idea is to see how plausible are Wii VC on this device assuming the IR Camera is poiting towrads the TV.
  • Pay attention to how the Joycon HD Rumble is implemented in games like Zelda, Splatton, Disgae, Bomberman or any less covered games like Spyro in general. And is the rumble effect dimmed too much when used with the Grip?
  • PLAY ZELDA WITH A JOYCON IN EACH HAND (WII REMOTE/NUNCHUCK STYLE) NOW SEE IF THERE'S GYRO AIMING.

That's what i got so far. i' ll edit thid post ARCANUM in case i got something else XD

1. Can you place the dock horizontally, so you can put it in your tv cabinet and slide the Switch in and out?

2. Does the screen have haptic feedback when you touch it, or just the joycons?

1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGirv00lBd8
2. im sure it doesn't. However, when the Joycon are attached they could vibrate in a specail way to give a more detailed sensation. There's no "haptic engines" inside the Switch to make what you inquire.
